Peyton Lewis Obituary

Peyton Gentile Lewis, age 72, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on May 1st, 2023 at the home he shared with his wife, Barbara (Stone). Born and raised in Wilmington, DE, Peyton graduated from Wilmington High School, Class of 1968. He furthered his education at The College of William & Mary, Class of 1972. Peyton served as a librarian for The Delaware Historical Society from 1974-1980. Upon leaving the Historical Society, Peyton dedicated 43 years of his career to Sodexo. He was serving as the Senior Business Technology Analyst at the time of his passing. He greatly enjoyed spending time outdoors with his wife, Barbara; tending to their garden, feeding the birds in their yard, and recycling. Peyton and Barbara were the proud recipients of the 2008 City of Wilmington Top Recycler Award! A true historian, he loved researching family ancestry and history in general. He appreciated music of all kinds and enjoyed accompanying his wife to any and everything she wanted to do. Peyton is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Barbara (Stone) Lewis of Wilmington; his step-son, Justin Lantz (Kristen) of Wilmington; his step-daughter, Katharine Lantz (Alex) of Brookfield, CO; and his five grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 from 10AM-11AM at the Doherty Funeral Home, 1900 Delaware Ave. , Wilmington, DE 19806. A memorial service will begin at 11AM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Peyton's name to the Sunday Breakfast Mission, 110 Poplar St. , Wilmington, DE 19801.
