"Visitation for Peter Laurence Smith, 50, who entered into rest September 2, 2023, will be held Saturday afternoon from 3 until 5 at Posey Funeral Directors. Peter was born on May 9, 1973, in Newark, New Jersey to Laurence Michael Smith and Josephine Smith. After graduating from Cedar Ridge High School in Old Bridge, NJ, Peter moved south to attend the University of South Carolina Aiken on a soccer scholarship. He was fascinated by the advent of the Dot Com age and graduated with his Bachelors of Science in Computer Engineering from the University of South Carolina Columbia. His curiosity for the world took him to Australia, Hong Kong, Europe and throughout the US. And over the years, Peter wore many hats as an Engineer, innovator, activist and entrepreneur. He was an avid reader, and his sense of compassion and open mindedness was evidenced by his many friends that crossed race, religion and age. It manifested in him being an animal lover, and he had a natural affinity with both children and the elderly. Despite his intelligence, he never made anyone feel inferior. He was a champion of the underdog and fought for the world-at-large, as an activist for bike advocacy, cooperative businesses and Democracy at large. Peter had a lifelong passion for soccer, was involved in his community, and genuinely cared about others. He found joy in music, sports, and the outdoors, but above all, he cherished his time with his family and close friends. Survivors include his mother, Josephine Smith; brothers, Brian, Sean and Laurence Smith, His niece Alexandra Brino Smith; numerous nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
