It is with heavy hearts, that we announce the death of Carolyn Delores (DeMian) Cassell, 85, of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, who passed away surrounded by family on November 23, 2023 from Dementia. Even though her aphasia took away her words and ability to speak, it was her loving heart that left a beacon of light for all in the St. Camillus community. Carol is survived by her husband Robert (Bob) James Cassell, with 62 years together. Also survived by her children, Kari Cassell, Kristin Splittgerber (Tim), Katy Geisler (Michael), and Mark Cassell (Heather); her grandchildren, Ashley Lois (Eric), Lauren Schneider (Jake), Jessica Splittgerber (Sara), Justin Geisler (Madison), Griffin Geisler, Jenna Geisler, Quinn Cassell, Owen Cassell, and Kaitlin Cassell; her great grandchildren, Beckett Lois and Ellorie Lois; her sibling, Joanne Corrigan; her brother-in-law, Paul Tagliola. Carol is predeceased by: her parents, Bernadeen (Wakefield) DeMian and Stanley DeMian; and her sister Mary Tagliola. Artist, cake decorator, reading Head Start teacher, wife, mother, grand and great grandmother; Carol and Bob spent most of their married years in Elm Grove, Wisconsin, while also taking advantage of being "snowbirds" in Naples, Florida from January to April each year. They were deeply rooted in friends, travel, and the St. Joseph's Catholic Church community, of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. Their "Four Seasons Group" organized adventures for every season: rafting down the Colorado River (where Carol broke her back), Door County Adventures, the red rocks of Sedona, Arizona, Boulder Junction, Hawaii, while also traveling internationally to China, Russia, and France. Carol and Bob's beginning years were spent in Brookfield, Wisconsin, which laid the foundation for some of the tightest relationships to grow through life with. LOTS of kids, babysitters, young parents, an open field for corn roasts, and a patch work of yards for all sorts of mischief! The stories grew as the neighborhood grew into a big, powerful, inclusive footprint; a loving community admired and cherished by the younger generations. Carol's story comes full circle as a final resting place at St. Camillus, among her tight neighborhood of friends, and her faithful commitment to Christ. Apartments replace yards, the stories are still large, and the mischief hasn't stopped. The magical "Secret Garden" was the highlight of Carol's imagination that she crafted for her grandchildren. Every year more and more characters were added but no one could ever enter without poking Mr. Who. To this day, all the grandchildren remember and giddily talk about (in a jovial sort of competitive way) their adventures in the "Secret Garden", their shell collecting explorations on the beaches of Florida, Zoo excursions, and their special times with "Grandy. "Carol and Bob met at Marquette University and remain to this day die hard Warrior basketball fans. Carol grew up in River Forest, IL and went to Trinity High School with her two sisters: Mary and Joanne. Carol will be remembered for her contagious smile, fashionable dress, her kindness and compassion, never missing a birthday or holiday with a card, being the first to welcome and greet new residences, offering help before thinking of herself, and the beautiful art gallery at St. Camillus that Bob made a dedication to, in Carol's honor. A special thank you to the hospice and skilled nursing staff for their care, compassion, and assistance in Carol's final months. It was Bob's immense love for Carol and his relentless caregiving measures, often setting aside a much-needed dinner out with friends, that kept Carol with us a little longer. Thank you for your love, respect, companionship, and most importantly, your generous heart you shared with Mom!Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 19, at 3 PM. Family and friends will gather from 1 PM to 2:45 PM in the St. Camillus West Residence, San Camillo Chapel, at 10200 W. Bluemound Rd. , Wauwatosa (across from the Milwaukee Zoo). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the St. Camillus Foundation or the Capuchin Community Services. Thank you!John J. Clark AssociateShow more
