Peter Downs Obituary

"Peter Cannon aka Frederick J. "Fred" Downs Peter Cannon, also known as Fred Downs, age 68, passed away on July 26, 2023, peacefully in his home after suffering from COPD for many years. Peter was born in Lowell, MA on July 14, 1955, the son of the late Evelyn F. (Shanley) Downs and Frederick F. Downs. He was educated in Lowell Schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School. He was a communicant of the former Sacred Heart Church, where he also served as an Altar Boy. Peter is survived by his daughter, Jessica A. Downs; a grandson, Wesley R. Barrett, and his ex-wife, Dolores (Lefebvre) Downs, whom he continued a lifelong friendship with. He also leaves a cousin, John (Jack) Downs and his good friend Eddie Rocha from Lowell. Peter was employed in various jobs including owning his own business, Fred Downs Carpets. He then worked for the town of Arlington for over 16 years up until the time of his retirement. More recently, he moved to Brownville JCT, Maine where he purchased his retirement home. Peter enjoyed his life in Maine, working on his home, watching the wild life in his yard, and having summer visits with his grandson and spending time with his daughter. He was so grateful to his neighbors who helped him in his time of need, and especially his next door neighbor and good friend, Carl Shutts and his family. Peter enjoyed traveling, football, baseball, and spending the holidays with family. Peter was a "Happy-Go-Lucky" guy. Anyone who met him loved him. His daughter and grandson were the world to him. He will be sadly missed and will always be in our hearts forever. Per Peter's wishes, there will be no formal Funeral Services. A Mass in which Peter will be remembered will be celebrated on SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 16, 2023 at 4 PM at HOLY FAMILY PARISH - ST. MARIE'S CHURCH, 75 Chamberlain St. Lowell, MA.
