Lorene Guentz

Lorene Guentz

Age - 95

December 1, 2023

Our incredible, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Lorene Ellen Marshall Guentz, 95 of Nampa, passed away at home on November 30, 2023, with loved ones by her side. Lorene was born on May 5, 1928, in Kuna, Idaho to parents O. E. and Ernestine Marshall. Her first years were growing up on the farm with her older brother, Kenneth, and younger sister, Eloise. She loved riding her pony, taking piano lessons and attending Sunday school. She was an excellent student and one of her favorite activities was "playing" school with her younger sister. Lorene was always the teacher. When she was in 6th grade, the family moved to Lower Franklin and then to a farm west of Nampa. She always had a summer job and was active at Nampa High School, graduating in 1946. In the summer of '47 Lorene met a fun-loving, handsome, ambitious farmer by the name of Gerry Guentz. Lorene was enrolled at the University of Idaho Southern Branch (now ISU) in Pocatello at the time. Multiple car trips for Gerry between Nampa and Pocatello occurred that school year. Although they were engaged at Christmas, Lorene convinced Gerry to wait before getting married, as she finished her two-year degree to get her teaching certificate and taught 4th grade for a year at Longfellow School in Boise. Gerry spent that time building his bride a new house at the farm on Southside Blvd, south of Nampa. The couple were married June 26, 1949 and Lorene took on the role of farm wife and mother with great enthusiasm and commitment. She was constantly busy cooking for hay men, canning, gardening and keeping up with Gerry's boundless energy to have card parties and go dancing! And of course, there were kids to raise: three daughters in four years - Kristin, Karen and Janet. The sisters would agree that they had the best parents a kid could have. They worked as a team and provided a wonderful childhood for the girls. It included farm work, a few household chores and lots of opportunities - piano lessons, dance lessons, 4-H, camping, family vacations and fun with cousins. Lorene still managed to teach part-time, enjoy her bridge club, serve as the Kuna PTA President, be involved at church and more. Lorene valued education and continued working toward her bachelor's degree in education, graduating from ISU in 1966. That year proved to be one of big changes for the family. They moved from the little gray house to a larger home 1/2 mile to the west on Track Road. This was the only move the couple made in 71 years together and where Lorene spent her last days. Six months after the move, Gerry was hit by a drunk driver, which took his legs, but not his life or his determination to carry on. It was Lorene that stayed steadfast by his side, managing the household with three teenage daughters while Gerry recovered and learned to walk again. She was unwavering in her devotion to her husband and family and highly skilled at keeping many balls in the air. Within a year, Gerry and Lorene were back to working together, traveling, having fun and even dancing. As much as teaching school, Lorene loved antiques. In her early thirties, she opened her first shop, Pink Parlor Antiques. Throughout the next 40 years Lorene developed expertise having several shops in antique malls, doing appraisals and managing estate sales with her friend, Kay Dunn. In 1981 she and Gerry took on the challenge of restoring the historic HasBrouck House on 12th Ave. in Nampa. , home to a restaurant, Gerry Guentz Real Estate and Lorene's Antiques and Gifts. Lorene and Gerry did a magnificent job in the restoration, leaving a legacy by saving one of Nampa's treasured, historical landmarks. Lorene was a member of Questers (historical educational organization), a 52-year member of PEO and past President of Chapter AX, a lifetime member of PTA and a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church. Her zest for learning, curiosity and her desire to contribute and connect remained with her throughout her life. While having her own interests and responsibilities, Lorene found time to also be "Grandma Lorene" to seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren whom she dearly loved. She attended her grandkids recitals, ball games, and activities, drove them when needed and babysat often. To this day, each grandchild has their own special relationship with their grandma. Lorene has been an icon of graciousness, resilience, friendship and unconditional love. Her 95 years were a blessing to all that knew her. Lorene is survived by her 2 daughters, Kristin Sample and Janet (Gary) Benoit; grandchildren, Travis Fleming, Suzanne Steenkolk (Mark), Trent Fleming, Rosanne Cabiles, Russell (Holly) Sample and Andy Benoit and great grandchildren, Caleb Frazier, Kinley and Kellen Steenkolk and Lilly Sample. Lorene was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver and Ernestine Marshall; her beloved husband, Gerald Guentz; daughter, Karen Fleming; brother, Kenneth Marshall; sister, Eloise Hershberger and granddaughter, Katy Benoit. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Lorene's wonderful and compassionate caregivers: Phyllis, Donette, Sherrie, Debbie, Elizabeth, Sara, Leasa and Keystone Hospice. A Celebration of Life Serrvice will be held at 2:00 p. m. on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at the Southside Blvd. United Methodist Church, 5420 Southside Blvd. , Nampa, Idaho. Richard Rea

Age - 79

November 30, 2023

Richard Garland Rea passed away peacefully at his home, on November 20, 2023 at the age of 79, while enjoying activities he loved to do. Richard was born in Boise, ID and raised in Mountain Home where he graduated high school. He served our country in the Vietnam War as a US Army Radioman and received a purple heart. After the war, he made his home in Nampa, ID where he worked and supported his family. His leadership earned him a management position at Nestle where he retired from. Richard is survived by his sister Louise; his children Bobbi, Chana, John, Soni and many adored grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Richard was proud of all his children and wanted nothing more than the best for them. The war had a traumatic effect on Richard both physically, as he lost his leg, and emotionally. From his pain he formed a deeply held belief that all people are deserving of dignity and respect regardless of differences. He sought to instill this value in his children and all he met. The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Richard. He loved the outdoors and was an avid sportsman. He passed his love for all things outdoors to his children, where he preferred to spend his time. He never failed to mention the beauty in something as grand as a mountain silhouette or as modest as a lone weathered tree. Richard was always in pursuit of living a storied life through his adventures. He could get lost within his imagination and affinity for the old west. Richard spent hours on end reading, watching, and collecting art on the subject, while being a self-proclaimed mountain man. His wishes were to be cremated and a small private ceremony with military honors will be held on December 7 th at noon, at Nampa Funeral Home Yraguen Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to your local veterans association in Richards's name. To to the family or in memory of Richard Garland Rea, pleaseShow more

Janessa Roberts

Janessa Roberts

Age - 19

November 27, 2023

Janessa Marie Roberts was born on January 14, 2004 in Salem, Oregon and entered the gates of heaven surrounded by friends and family on November 18, 2023. Although her time here on Earth with us was short, she lived life big and left an impression on everyone she met. Janessa's mom will never forget the day she met her and her brother Simon in Salem on 10/24/2004. She had big, blue, curious eyes and a full head of beautiful brown, curly hair. Six months later, she began her life in Fruitland, Idaho and the adoption was finalized on December 29, 2005. Although she was a daddy's girl when she was a little girl, she was definitely her momma's 'Mini Me' and took pride in that. She loved when people told her "You look exactly like your mom" because she loved seeing the looks on their faces when she told them she was adopted. Janessa was smart, fierce, determined, stubborn, kind, loving and had a heart of gold. She had a special place in her heart for the less fortunate and loved working with special needs adults and kids. She worked with a group of adults with special needs for a few months and that was truly where she shined. She told her mom she found purpose in that job and loved the clients. Although her teenage years were really tough, she graduated high school six months early and stayed diligent in working on herself. She learned to trust her mom and step-dad to help keep her safe and had made significant progress in understanding her needs and creating skills to support them. The relationship with her mom and Brad was solid and she knew she had more than her mom in her corner. She was a lover of animals, especially the ones that grossed her mom out. Spiders, snakes and lizards were often talked about, but her love of dogs topped it all. She is sorely missed by Peyton and Leia, her 4-legged siblings, who will miss her big hugs and floor cuddles. Janessa discovered she loved hockey games and looked forward to games this coming season with her Mom. She loved makeup and spent hours watching YouTube and creating elaborate make-up designs. Her make-up was flawless when she was admitted to the hospital and her cousin Mollee reminded her mom that she would have loved knowing her brows were perfect. She loved exploring new skin care and haircare products and loved sharing her "curls" with her mom when she found a new, amazing product. Janessa looked forward to shooting pumpkins with her Step-dad Brad and loved her iced coffee time with her mom. She loved exploring new restaurants with her brother Braden and recently started sharing her love of Nu Metal with her brother Bryce. She loved playing 'What do you Meme' with Simon and Skarlet and she couldn't wait until the next time she saw her sister Kylie and nephew Bubba. Janessa is survived by Parents: Brad & Lisa Cain and Tony Roberts. Siblings: Simon Roberts, Braden Cain, Bryce Cain, Kylie Roberts and Tugger Roberts. Grandparents: Nana Sharon Blacketter, Papa Mike Blacketter, Papa Moose & Deb Shrum and Grandma Sherry & Grandpa Ron Quigley. Nephew: Korace aka Bubba. Aunts/Uncles: Eric & Angie Rosengrant, Todd & Stephanie Blacketter, Josh and Jenni (Furgason) Blacketter, Jake & Katarina Shrum, Josh & Lacey Shrum, Jenni Shrum and Rodney & Dawn Cain. As well as numerous cousins and great aunts & great uncles. Brad and Lisa are thankful for the support of their ODOC Family, Lisa's Unstoppable Influence Sisterhood and BUPC2, Megan Bourner. Madelyne, Eda, The Crumes, The Richters, The Bowers, The Quigleys and countless others that reached out and supported the family during this tragedy. Janessa leaves a huge hole in the hearts of all her family and friends. There is comfort in knowing she is in Heaven in the company of her precious St. Bernards Emmie. Ella and Duke, her Lab Sadie and her cat Snuggy, as well as her Grandma and Grandpa Shrum, Gramma and Grandpa Wright, Grandma Ninnie, Aunt Laurel, Grandpa Pete, Aunt Joyce, Grandpa Cain and her birth mom Heather Crume. Until we meet again, Monkey. . . The family plans to set up a memorial fund in Janessa's honor and hold a celebration of life in early 2024. Henry John Roossien passed away Monday, November 13, at St. Alphonsus Medical Center in Nampa, Idaho. He was 90 years old. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 2, at 11:00 am, at Alsip and Persons Funeral Chapel in Nampa, Idaho. Henry was born on March 6, 1933, in Grand Haven Township, Michigan. He lived with his father, Henry John Sr. , and mother, Georgianna, and his five sisters and two brothers in Grand Haven until he was 13 years old. After the passing of his mother when he was eight years old, his father was remarried and his stepmother, Alice, and stepsister, Delores, were added to the family. When Henry was 13, his dad and stepmother moved with Henry and the family's younger children to Pomona, California. His older sisters and brother stayed behind in Grand Haven. The Roossien family moved into an craftsman-style house on San Francisco Street in Pomona, where Henry lived until joining the Air Force in 1951 as a Jet Aircraft Mechanic. Across the street from the Roossien House on San Francisco Street lived the Henderson Family and their daughter Margaret. Henry and Margaret were married in Las Vegas, Nevada, on April 17, 1954. Henry was stationed at Nellis Air Force Base, and they made their home in Las Vegas for several years, until he completed his service and was discharged and they moved back to Southern California. Henry's first job after leaving the Air Force was working for the Metropolitan Water District in Los Angeles, and he continued that employment until he retired in 1993, after 37 years of dedicated service. Henry and Margaret's oldest daughter, Margaret Lynn, arrived on December 7, 1957, and their younger daughter, Julie Anne, was born seven and a half years later, on May 4, 1965. The family enjoyed many family get-togethers at the Henderson and Roossien homes on San Francisco Street in Pomona. Every holiday was full of relatives and food on both sides of the street. Henry and his family lived for many years in La Puente, California, and then later in Covina, California. He enjoyed many creative hobbies. One of his first creations was a replica of a 1901 Oldsmobile, complete with a wooden sleigh-style body and folding canvas canopy. It was a lot of fun to ride in!
