Pennie Shea Burkes, 56, passed away Saturday, September 9, 2023, surrounded by family after a day of fun and laughter. Visitation is from 10:00 am until 11:00 am Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at Jordan Funeral Home in Kosciusko. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am from the Jordan Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow in Carson Ridge Cemetery. Rev. Doyle Mitchell will officiate the services. Pennie was a member of the Carson Ridge Baptist Church. She lived at the Choctaw County Nursing and Rehab for the past six years. While living there the employees gave her excellent care and the residents treated her like family. Pennie was survived by her aunt, Pam Braswell of Ethel, MS. , and many cousins. She has been preceded in death by her parents, Hubert and Linda Kay Bain Burkes. Those serving as pallbearers are Randy Clark, Roger Clark, Ennis Burkes, Chance Braswell, David Sanders, Clarence McDaniel, and David Odom. Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Childrens Hospital

Jack was born April 4, 1933, to John Will Rhodes and Gladys Dugard Rhodes in Tupelo, Mississippi. He was an automobile mechanic that worked for Ford Place, and Chevrolet Place. Later, he opened an automobile mechanic shop behind his house. Jack was a member of Williamsville Baptist Church for 50 years. Jack is survived by his sons Randy (Brenda) Rhodes of Kosciusko and Todd Rhodes of Kosciusko; daughters Melissa (Steve) DeFord of Madison and Dawn (West) Frazure of Kosciusko; grandchildren Molli Sledge, Brandon Rhodes, Matthew Williams, Jena Kes, Haley Rhodes, Griffin Frazure; several great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents John Will Rhodes and Gladys Dugard Rhodes, his wife Mavis Rhodes, son Marlin Joe Rhodes, brothers John Thomas Rhodes, Fred Rhodes, Robert Rhodes, Leland Rhodes, Stanley Rhodes, Guy Rhodes, and sister Geraldine Rhodes Hatley. Mr. Danny Ray Biggart age 68, passed this life November 17, 2023, at his residence. A memorial service will be held 12:00 p. m. , Saturday, November 25, 2023 at Thomastown Baptist Church. Danny was a retired truck driver. He is survived by his wife Wanda Watkins Biggart, a daughter Angela Hernandez and her husband Mitchell. Two Grandchildren Brittany McCray of Leake County and Danny Loper of Georgia. Five Great-Grandchildren Anthony McCray, Braxton McCray, Lina McCray, Elizabeth Loper, and Braylen Loper. Three sisters Barbara Ware, Thomastown, Pat Riser of Harperville and Shirley Parish of Greenwood, MS. Brothers Gary "Bird" Biggart of Thomastown, Daryl "Peewee" Biggart of Morton and Jesse "Popeye" Biggart of Thomastown. Ricky was born December 5, 1956, in Mississippi to Delma Noel Summers and Minnie Nail Summers. He graduated with a Doctor of Divinity from Great Plains Theological Seminary in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Bro. Ricky pastored at Hurricane Baptist Church (McAdams, MS), Berea Baptist Church (French Camp, MS), Old Pearl Valley Baptist Church (Philadelphia, MS), and Davis Road Baptist Church (Byram, MS). At his death, he was a member of Grace Covenant Church in Maben, MS. He was a faithful servant of the Lord Jesus Christ. Bro. Mrs. Mary Sills Hodges age 89, passed this life on Friday, November 17, 2023, at St. Dominic/Jackson Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will 11:00 am Monday, November 20, 2023, at Jordan Funeral Home Chapel, Visitation will be from 10:00 am until 11:00 am Monday, November 20, 2023, at Jordan Funeral Home with burial in Jerusalem Cemetery. Mary was an active member of Jerusalem Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for over 50 years, sang in the choir, and taught Vacation Bible School. Mrs. Hodges was a factory worker at Garan until its closure and then worked as Activities Director at Atwood Personal Care Home. She is survived by her daughter, Cathy Sills Bishop of Kosciusko, MS; two grandchildren, Morgan Bishop (Matt) Mahan and Jason Bishop, and two great-grandchildren, Brody and Brennan Mahan. Robert Pinkard

Robert E. Pinkard, 78, passed away on November 3, 2023. "Bob" was born on February 18, 1945, to Corene C. and Robert L. Pinkard. He was a native of Kosciusko, Mississippi. He moved to California when he was 14 years old and throughout his life he lived in Mississippi and California. He grew up attending Scotts Valley Baptist church and later, Santa Cruz Bible Church. He accepted Christ and was baptized in Scotts Valley Baptist Church in California. Work was Bob's biggest hobby; however, he also enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially with his younger brother and nephew. He hunted for upland game in California with his younger brother, niece, and nephew. In Mississippi, he hunted with cousins and other family members. In addition, he always seemed to enjoy having a fast car, listening to country music, and spending a lot of time with family. He thoroughly enjoyed reading Western series books and watching Western movies. Before becoming ill, he purchased property in Mississippi and had the dream of raising cattle. Bob started working while he was still in high school; he became a truck driver for 'Standard Lumber Mills. He hauled lumber and sawdust. He loved working for Gene and his good friend, Alvin Scarborough. After a few years, he and another friend, Mike Lefebre, became foremen for the logging department at Standard Lumber. Eventually, Mike and Bob started "P & L Excavating. " Due to the success and growth of their operation, they decided to open their own separate excavating business. Bob started "Robert Pinkard Excavating" where he had the help of yet another friend from youth, Geri Trueblood. His business was built on integrity and dedication; his achievement was apparent by the number of people who sought his work. Bob found his niche in his job. He loved creating house pads, building roads in challenging mountains terrains, and completing other types of work requiring dirt work. Bob, while running Pinkard Excavating, hired and mentored Barrett Painter. Barrett, a quick study, modeled after Bob's commitment to work and ethics. Barrett became a great friend, helping Bob and Diane whenever they needed assistance. As Bob saw that he was going to have to retire, he, in turn, was able to pass his clients on to Barrett and his new firm, Barrett Excavating. Janice was born October 17, 1948, in Attala County, Mississippi to Grover Doris Grantham and Vera Lee Herod Grantham. Janice worked at Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital in High School, then worked for Dr. Stanley Hartness for many years. She retired from the Attala County Health Department. Janice attended Harvest Point Baptist Church. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star, Red Hat Society, and Bunko. Janice is survived by her husband Travis Mann of Kosciusko, Mississippi; son Jimmy (Penny) Mann of Kosciusko, Mississippi; brother Scotty Grantham of Zemuly community; grandchildren Jena (Jacob) Chambley, Adyson Mann, and Aubri Mann; great-grandchildren Evie Kate Chambley and Brinley Chambley; and lifelong friend Linda Shelley. Kenneth Atkinson Jr

"Louis Kenneth "Kenny" Atkinson, Jr. , 86, passed away on Sunday, November 5, 2023, at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Kosciusko, Mississippi. Funeral services will be 11 a. m. Wednesday, November 8 in the Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Charles Davis officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service at the funeral home from 10:30 a. m. until service time. Interment will follow the service in Friendship Presbyterian Cemetery in Van Vleet, Mississippi. Kenny was born on September 29, 1937, to Kenneth Atkinson, Sr. and Ethel Lou Clark Atkinson. He was a member of Evergreen Baptist Church. He answered the call of his country by serving in both the United States Air Force and the United States Navy, from which he retired. He served three tours of duty in Vietnam with the Navy Seabees traveling extensively throughout the world fulfilling his military duties. Kenny was a prolific reader and was a fitness buff. He dearly loved his family; he especially enjoyed spending time with his nieces. Kenny is survived by his sister, Patricia Norsworthy and husband, Milton, of Cleveland, Tennessee. He also leaves behind three nieces: Melanie Norsworthy, Susan (Mike) Ellis, and Sarah (Michael) Venable; as well as a host of great-nieces and great-nephews.
