| | On November 5, 2023, we lost our beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother, Geneva Mae (Gardner) Jones. Geneva was born September 7, 1925 in Souder, Missouri to Hauda Avis and Maud Abigail (Miller)Gardner. Geneva was the fifth child to this union. Two older sisters, Jewell Pearl and June Allene welcomed her into the world. The family lived in Missouri until they relocated to the Oklahoma Panhandle amidst the Great Depression, enduring numerous challenges and hardships brought about by the Dust Bowl. During this time in the Oklahoma Panhandle, two half-sisters, Margaret and Maudie Roth joined her family. Geneva, her mother, and four sisters moved to Camargo, Oklahoma where she met Percy Leon Jones. Percy and Geneva were married in Mutual, Oklahoma on May 28, 1941. They lived in Camargo as farmers until Percy had an employment opportunity in Borger, Texas and they moved to Fritch, Texas. Eventually, the family transferred to McGregor, Texas where Geneva and Percy built their first home. In 1956, Geneva and Percy bought their family homestead in Crawford, Texas where they built the home they resided in the remainder of Percy's life. Geneva and Percy had two children while in Oklahoma, a son in Borger, Texas and added their last son to the household when they moved to Crawford. Geneva actively participated in school activities and was always there to help any child in need. She was an excellent neighbor and a wonderful friend. Once her own children had grown, she and Papa played a significant role in raising five grandchildren. Geneva was extremely gifted, loved arts and crafts, and was a master at making something from nothing. Geneva helped with countless bake sales -to this day, her pies, cinnamon rolls, and other yummy goodies are legendary. Geneva and Percy were married two weeks short of 69 years. They shared an enduring bond, weathering both difficult and joyful moments together. They loved to travel and were fortunate to visit countless locations in our beautiful Country. They loved country music, taking every opportunity to dance the night away. Geneva was a self-taught guitarist who loved to gather with friends, strum the guitar and play music. Her deepest wish was that at least one of her children or grandchildren would learn to play the guitar or piano. As of now, that goal is still a work in progress. Geneva is survived by three sons, Donald (Sharon) Jones, Eddie Jones, Michael (Francine) Jones, and one daughter, Leta Marie Jones, all residing in Texas. She is blessed with seven grandchildren: Shannon Jones, Alissa (Kevin) Copeland, Michael II (Tina) Jones, Dannielle (Matt) Henderson, Christopher (Beverly) Jones, Richard Jones, and David Jones and 10 great-grandchildren: Sydney Recker, Anthony Adorno, Nikolas Henderson, Makenna, Aria, and Lucy Copeland, Christopher, Patricia, Preston, and Kye Jones. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and other family members and close friends.Show more
