Peggy Helene Gilbert Kubert, age 68, of Winnetka, beloved wife for 44 years of David Kubert; loving mother of Joseph (Elizabeth) Kubert, Jonathan (Storey Dyer Kloman) Kubert, and Kate Kubert; proud daughter of the late Howard and the late Barbara Gilbert; cherished sister of Jim (Gail) Gilbert and Andrew (Maureen) Gilbert; devoted daughter-in-law of the late Judith and late Joseph Kubert; dear sister-in-law of the late Charlie (Karen Muchin) Kubert and late Anne (Richard) Nathan; treasured aunt to 11 nieces and nephews; neighbor, friend, and mentor to so many. Peggy grew up in Glencoe before attending New Trier West High School (1972), graduating from Northwestern University (B. A. 1976), and earning a Masters in Social Service Administration from the University of Chicago (A. M. 1981). Peggy will be remembered for her grace, compassion, style and adventurous spirit. She was a lifelong Camp Agawak camper where she took up archery, rose to captain of the White Team, and made treasured friendships. Peggy was always ready to take on a new adventure no matter how far outside her comfort zone—skiing after she met David, travelling the continent to windsurf, and sight fishing for tarpon to name a few. She jumped in with a smile on her face, a great sense of humor and love for those around her. Professionally, Peggy was both quietly determined and an incredible communicator. She dedicated her career to helping others and building community near and far. Notably, Peggy was pivotal in launching Erika’s Lighthouse, a nonprofit supporting adolescent depression awareness and education, and propelling it from a small community effort into a nationally recognized force. Most of all, Peggy loved the family that she and David created. She was her family’s fiercest supporter, always providing a voice of reason and creating a sense of calm amidst any storm. From small moments like nightly family dinners at the table to bigger milestones, she could always be found at the center of it all, in a stylish outfit and with perfect hair. She was a selfless and thoughtful mother, teaching her children how to always find sunshine in darkness and creating a wonderful home that has served as a safe harbor, especially throughout the most challenging days of her long battle with cancer. Her presence, light, and love will be greatly missed and always with us. Following the private family burial, a memorial service for Peggy will be held on Sunday, October 8th, 2:00 p. m. CT at North Shore Congregation Israel, 1185 Sheridan Road, Glencoe, IL 60022. The service will be livestreamed on Peggy’s page at www. goldmanfuneralgroup. com. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Erika's Lighthouse, www. erikaslighthouse. org/donate. Info: The Goldman Funeral Group 847-478-1600.

Ian Bornstein

Age - 62

October 30, 2023

Ian Keith Bornstein, born July 8, 1961, and passed away suddenly, unexpectedly, but peacefully October 25, 2023. From his very earliest days to his very last, Ian battled adversity with strength, fortitude, and an unrivaled positive attitude and outlook. Ian’s love for and devotion to his late father Bernard and his mother Shirley were only matched by their devotion to, and love for him. Ian’s spot as the third and middle child of five boys, Bruce (Maureen), Scott (Ruth), Mitchell, and the late Ira (Sandy), fit him and his personality perfectly, and his membership in this small and select group of five meant everything to him. All who observed Ian with his dogs, first Sunny and later Pearl, knew how much he loved each and how much each was devoted to, and loved their dad. And in his greatest accomplishment, raising his children Gabriel and Samara, Ian dedicated his every hour, every day, every week, month, and year to their education, joy, fulfillment, happiness, and love. Taken from us with so much more life to live, Ian’s sense of humor, encyclopedia-like knowledge of facts, random facts, trivia, his strength, and his devotion to all he loved will stay with us forever. Service Wednesday, 12 Noon CT at The Chapel, 195 N. Buffalo Grove Rd. , Buffalo Grove (1 Blk N. of Lake Cook Rd. ). The service will be livestreamed on Ian’s webpage at www. goldmanfuneralgroup. com.
