Peggy Brashier Obituary

Peggy Canup Brashier (1944 - 2023) Peggy Canup Brashier, 78, passed peacefully from this life on April 20, 2023. The daughter of Leroy and Hazel Canup, she was born in Limestone County, Alabama and lived most of her life in the Birmingham, Alabama area. Peggy was married to her loving husband, Paul W. in 1963, and they were blessed with two beloved children, Jennifer Walker and Paul G. Brashier. Peggy was a former member of Bethel Baptist Church in Odenville and currently a member of Meadow Brook Baptist Church in northern Shelby County, Alabama. At Bethel, she especially loved singing in the choir and supporting the Bethel youth group in their many adventures. At Meadowbrook, her favorite activities included singing with the Son Shine Singers ensemble and enjoying activities with the members of her Sunday school group, the Dorsett Class. Peggy graduated from Shades Valley High School. She spent most of her career in the legal field. She worked for the City of Birmingham Legal Department upon graduation from high school before joining the U. S. Department of Justice, U. S. Attorney. After spending a number of years as a homemaker and raising her children, she resumed her career with Alabama Power Company's Corporate Security Department before retiring in 1997. In retirement, Peggy enjoyed traveling with her husband Paul, and other family and friends. The beach and mountains were two of her favorite destinations. She enjoyed cooking, decorating, sewing, collecting antiques, and hosting gatherings for family and friends. She most loved going to great lengths to make family gatherings at Christmas and Easter special - sprinkle cookies, peanut brittle and bunny cakes were signature treats to mark the occasions. Her greatest joy was her role as Grammie to her four grandsons. She immersed herself in their many activities and pursuits, from grandparents' day at school to their special summer visits with Grammie and Pop that were tailored to each grandson's wishes. Peggy is survived by the love of her life, Paul W. Brashier, her daughter Jennifer B. Walker (Travis), her son Paul G. Brashier (Kathryn) of Huntsville, AL and four grandsons, David Brashier (Anna), Ryan Walker, Jared Brashier, and Campbell Brashier. She is also survived by her step-grandchildren Kayla Freeman (Jon) and Kristofer Walker (Anna). She is survived by her brothers David Canup of Memphis, TN, Travis Canup, Bill Canup and sister, Martha Hurley. She is survived by many special in-laws, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother, Hazel, father, Leroy, and her brother, Horace Canup, and her sister-in-love, Helen Canup of Memphis, TN. Peggy will be remembered with a private service to be held at a later date.
