Carol Lynne (Cowen) Girgis, 85, of Alleyton, Texas passed away peacefully and surrounded by loved ones, on Thursday, September 21, 2023. Carol was born December 21, 1937 in Bellaire, Ohio to Duane Tompkins Cowen and Gwendolyn Marjorie (Seabrook) Cowen. She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Dr. Kamel "Doc" Girgis; her daughter Dr. Magda Girgis and her spouse Connie Jenkins; her son Christopher Girgis, his wife Beverly (Neal) Girgis and their children, Zoe and Brady; and her niece August (Cowen) Runk, her husband Cole Runk, and their sons JC and Hunter. Carol was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Daniel Duane Cowen, Richard Warren Cowen, and Curtis Phillip Cowen. In her teens, Carol moved with her family from Ohio to Galveston, Texas, where she graduated from Galveston Ball High School and soon after entered the University of Texas Medical Branch School of X-Ray Technology. After graduating with her Medical X-Ray Technician certification, she took time to travel Europe, starting her love for all things British - Earl Grey tea and Marmite on toast, always favorites. She returned to the Houston area to work in the St. Luke's Episcopal & Texas Children's Hospital. It was during this time that she met Kamel and they married soon after. Kamel and Carol moved to Cairo, Egypt where Carol served as the Director of the Egyptian American Cultural Center and became fluent in Arabic, one of many languages she learned. Upon returning to the United States, Carol obtained Bachelor's Degrees, with Honors, in English Literature & Psychology from Houston Baptist University and dedicated her life to being an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, and serving others through philanthropy, charity & time. Carol was a lover of the literary, performing, and fine arts. She volunteered at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, could always be found in a local library, book store, or enjoying a book with a nice glass of Chardonnay. She was an accomplished stage actor, headlining in several productions in the Houston community theater scene, and she also shared her love for chorus by singing in the Choirs of the Episcopal Church of Epiphany in Houston and St. John's Episcopal Church in Columbus. Friends of the family are invited to attend a Remembrance & Celebration of Carol's life on Saturday, October 14th at 9:30 AM, at the Christ Episcopal Church, located at 306 E.
