Elon, NC - Pauline B. (Gendron) Formisano, 90, formerly of Rumford, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 3, 2023. She was the beloved wife of the late Ciro M. Formisano for forty-seven years. Born in Marlborough, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Aime J. and Marion A. (Grenier) Gendron. Pauline resided in Rumford for over fifty years prior to relocating to North Carolina in 2018. She worked as a solderer at the former Texas Instruments, Attleboro, for twenty-five years prior to retiring in 1989. Pauline enjoyed camping and spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by two daughters, Deborah A. Harkins and her husband, Gregory, of North Carolina and Linda R. Marrocco and her wife, Sharon, of Massachusetts; a stepdaughter, Audrey Anderson of N. Providence; a stepson, Michael Formisano and his wife, Susan, of Florida; fourteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren and her beloved Shih Tzu, Bella. She was the mother of the late Donald R. Beck, sister of the late Eleanor I. Minguy, grandmother to the late Jarod Wetherell and great-grandmother of the late Caleb Harkins. Interment with her late husband in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket, will be private. Visitation and floral tributes are respectfully omitted. Rumford - Eddie Ray Shurtleff, 78, of Rumford passed away unexpectedly on October 19th, 2023 while headed to do what he enjoyed most, play poker. Eddie was born in Livermore, ME to Edmund T. Jr and Alma (Corey) Shurtleff on February 7, 1945. He attended local schools and got his degree to be a teacher. He married Gayle (Lloyd) and together they raised their family of two boys. Eddie was a busy person always wanting to have something to do so he taught Mathematics in the Rumford School System and also worked at the Rumford Paper Mill. Ed loved his community, state and country serving as a town of Rumford selectman for many years, running for the United States Senate, and was the leader of many years of fireworks in the town of Rumford. He was a family man, exceptional husband, honest man, and a great friend although he did have a streak of grumpiness within him that sometimes peeked out. He would attend his grandkids events whenever he could and loved to watch Cameron playing little league baseball. Eddie had a few pastimes himself playing softball with his son Shawn, bowling, pool but nothing could be playing poker which he was very good at, took pride in, and knew how to win. He began his poker career at the age of 17 before he got out of high school and it was known that he loved taking your money. When he could get outside he loved to fish and hunt until his ice fishing journey one time which squashed his fishing aspirations. He was a collector of baseball paraphernalia and could often be found sleeping in his recliner taking his cat naps that ended up keeping him awake at night. He is survived by his wife Gayle, his sons Shawn Shurtleff of Lewiston and Aaron Shurtleff and his wife Jennifer Wolny of Maryland; a brother Willard Shurtleff of Rumford and sister Brenda Shurtleff of California; two grandchildren Kerianne Shurtleff and Cameron and his wife Alanna Shurtleff; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. Portland, ME - Michele Nicole Arsenault of Rumford, ME, was a devoted mother, wife, sister, daughter, auntie, and friend. She passed away on October 11, at the age of 48, after a courageous battle with cancer. Michele was born in Rumford, Maine, on October 18, 1974, to Connie and Ed Dixon, Sr. She graduated from Mountain Valley High School, Class of 1993. Michele went on to complete cosmetology school as a nail technician. Michele married Francis "Cussy'' Arsenault, Jr. , and together they had two beautiful children, Damien (22) and Sydney (13). Michele's career included customer service at Zayre's, numerous cleaning jobs including Oxford County Mental Health, and a nail tech at Paradise Spa. Her true calling was being a mother. She was happiest with friends and family and looked forward to summers at Dummer's Beach Campground. Michele had a way of bringing beauty and laughter to everything she was a part of whether it was playing cards, baking, shopping, or decorating for the seasons. Michele is survived by her husband, Cussy; children, Damien and Sydney, and beloved bulldog, Bella. She is also survived by her mother, Connie Dixon; special father-figure, Donald Bacon; sister and brother in-law, Rachel and Matt Desroches; nephew and nieces, Dylan, Lindsey and Natalie; brother and sister in-law Eddie and Dawn Dixon and nephew Nathaniel; numerous extended family and special friends in Maine and Georgia. Rumford, ME - Shay Lawrence McKenna, the son of Laurie and Mark McKenna of Rumford, Maine was born in Farmington, Maine on April 26, 1995 and unjustly taken from us and killed on September 13, 2023. Shay was the second youngest son. He had 4 Siblings a sister Deanna McKenna, Brother Heath McKenna, and his brother and best friend who passed prior Drew McKenna, and a step brother Neil McKenna of Peru. Shay was a gentle soul who loved animals. The family pets especially his cat Jax whom he referred to as his baby boy. He loved nature and enjoyed taking pictures of beautiful things in nature, He also loved the night sky. Shay was extremely smart and helped with the family business. He could fix all things mechanical and helped so much with many other things. Sadly Shay struggled with a good part of his life with depression, more so in the past 9 months since the passing of his brother. His life is a tragic loss with many questions. Shay is survived by his Mother and Father, his siblings, Aunt and Uncle Maureen and Mike Boudreau of Rumford, Aunts Colleen and Susan of Conifer Colorado, Aunt and Uncle Kathy and Greg Richard of Dixfield, Aunt Sharon Weston of Harmony Maine, Uncle David McKenna of Florida. Also cousins and family who loved and cared about him dearly especially Nancy whom he referred to as "Aunt Nancy" who was always there for him. There are also family friends he enjoyed and meant a lot to him. He was predeceased by his beloved brother Drew McKenna, His maternal grandparents Evelyn and Lawrence Gaul, Paternal Grandparents Ruth & Everett McKenna. A Funeral Mass will be held at the Parish of the Holy Savior at a time to be announced There will be a Celebration of Life held at a later date in the Spring. George Vlahakis, 77, of Rumford, ME, passed away on September 6, 2023, at his sister's residence in Haverhill, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Lisimahia, Greece on July 17, 1946, son of the late Christos and Anastasia (Mitsou) Vlahakis. Georgios was educated in Greece before coming to the United States in 1955. He would go on to join the United States Marine Corps and serve our nation during the Vietnam War. He was a longtime Restauranteur and owned and operated Rumford House of Pizza in Rumford, ME. George had a sharp mind and a keen sense of humor. He had a strong interest in history and politics. George loved growing up in Haverhill, and he especially enjoyed basketball, old westerns, Looney Toons, and the occasional game of poker ;). George is survived by his wife Brenda (Peck) Vlahakis, his three children, Alisa V. Povenmire and her husband Ross of Haverhill, Christopher F. Vlahakis of North Reading and Nathaniel J. Vlahakis of Bath, Maine. He also leaves behind his siblings Charles C. Vlahos and his wife Athanasia of Haverhill and Helen Manemanus and her husband George of Haverhill. He was the loving grandfather to his six grandchildren Ariana Fox, Aaron Povenmire, Jacob C. Vlahakis, Joshua Vlahakis, Leah Joan Vlahakis, Nickolas Esposito-Vlahakis and his two great grandchildren Wolfgang and Sylvia. He also is survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his visitation on Monday, September 11, 2023, from 10-11 AM in the Holy Apostles Saints Peter & Paul Greek Orthodox Church, 156 Winter St. , Haverhill. William Freeman Jr. 1952-2023 PERU- With profound sadness we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, and papa. Bill fought a short battle with cancer. He passed away at home surrounded by his loving family, In the early morning of Memorial Day. He made all his own treatment decisions, and from the beginning said he didn't want anyone to shed a tear, if you're sad go plant a flower or pull some weeds. Bill was born in Rumford and lived most of his life in Peru. He served in the Navy from 1971-1972. Bill was an industrial painter, worked construction in the paper mill, and cut wood. But his true passion was painting and light carpentry. He often said, "I don't pick the colors, I apply them". Dad loved being outside whether he was hiking, cutting wood, or playing in his flower gardens. His love of flowers and gardening earned him the nickname Buttercup Bill. Dad got his love of nature and gardening from his mother, and he passed that love onto his daughters. He loved to read and retained lots of knowledge. He read every book in the library about the state of Maine. He leaves behind his loving wife of 38 years, Maryellen of Peru. His children Cammie Sprague and her partner Ricky Knox of Buckfield, Ryan Freeman of New York, Mariah Locher and husband Josiah of Brunswick, Hannah Freeman and her fiancee Justin Aube of West Paris. His grandchildren Shelby Hall and husband Jesse of Key Largo, FL, Morgan Williamson and husband Finn or Bethel, Willow Howe and Eliot Aube of West Paris. And his dear friend Norman Deroche of Peru. And siblings Lynda Derouche and husband John, Cindi Proctor and husband Dalton, of Weld. Gregg Freeman and wife Cindy, Andy Freeman and wife Brenda of Peru, Valerie Bonnell and Husband Dick of Rumford, and Ernie Roy of Peru.
