Paul A. Smiegal, age 89, of Brockton, died peacefully on September 8th after a long illness. He was born January 4, 1934 in Hyde Park, MA to Anthony and Margaret ( McCarthy) Smiegal. Paul was a "double eagle" proudly graduating from Boston College High and Boston College. During the Korean War, Paul served as a Private First Class. After the war, he met the love of his life Phyllis Oliver at the Brockton Fair. They were married for 49 years before her passing in 2010. Paul touched many lives during his career as a beloved elementary math teacher and principal in the Avon and Brockton school systems. He had a great laugh that made everyone happy to be around him. Paul was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. He loved following sports of any kind and was a diehard Red Sox fan. He enjoyed summer vacations at Old Orchard Beach, traveling with his wife, a good game of Uno with his family and spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed time spent golfing and bowling. Paul is survived by his only son Paul (Cynthia) of Clinton, NY and grandchildren Will (Boston, MA), Caroline (New York, NY) and Julia (Durham, NC). He leaves behind his cherished sister Joan Cardoza, her son George (Sylvia) and sister in law Kathy Oliver. Paul had a special bond with Phyllis's cousin Mike Moran, Mike's former wife Susan Moran and their children Jack and Brian Moran. He was predeceased by brothers in law George Cardoza and Don Oliver. The family wishes to extend their thanks to the staff of Lifecare West Bridgewater for their exceptional care of Paul and a profound gratitude to longtime neighbor and friend Marilyn Marrese for her daily visits and great care. Visitation will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton on Friday, September 15 from 10-11am, followed by a funeral service at 11am. For those wishing to honor Paul's life, please consider a donation to a children's charity of your choice in lieu of flowers.

Lawrence J. "Larry" Labadie, Jr. 70, of Bella Vista Circle, Glocester, died Thursday, November 23, 2023 with his wife and daughter by his side. He was the beloved husband of Diane (Andreozzi) Labadie. They had been married for 36 years. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Lawrence J. and Theresa (Morin) Labadie. He most recently lived in Glocester. He had previously lived in Burrillville and North Providence. Larry was a Sales Representative for Liberty Mutual Group before retiring. He had also worked as an Employment Recruiter at Positions Recruiting & Data Service. He had been a Sales Representative for Rainbow Vacuum Cleaners earlier in his career. He was a 1976 Graduate of Bryant College. Larry enjoyed golf and deep-sea fishing. He enjoyed spending time with family, friends and his grandson. He especially enjoyed Sunday afternoon get togethers and making lobster and steamers for Fourth of July family cookouts. He was an accomplished pitcher for the Bryant Bulldogs and had been recruited by the Pawtucket Red Sox. Larry was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. He never said no. Besides his wife, Larry is survived by his daughter: Kirah Kirk of Johnston, his grandson, Wyatt Kirk and a sister: Carol Couture and her husband, Paul of Burrillville along with loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews. cousins that will always cherish being part of his life. His Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, November 29th at 12:30pm in the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Rt 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 28th, 4-7pm. Catherine Shaw Perry passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 22, 2023, in Ponte Vedra, Florida. She was 94 years old. A graveside funeral service will be held for Mrs. Perry at 12:00 noon on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at Oak Ridge Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest. The Rev. Hugh Ward will officiate. Born in Laurinburg, North Carolina (Scotland County) on August 24, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Alexander Edwin Shaw, Jr. and Jane McKay Shaw. She graduated from Wagram High School and attended Queens College in Charlotte, North Carolina. In 1951, she graduated from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, where she received a B. A. in Education. Catherine was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. She taught school in Mooresville, North Carolina, Rockingham, North Carolina and in Tifton, Georgia. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Tifton, Georgia, the Eliza Britt Circle, the Adventurers Sunday School Class and Club 55 of the First United Methodist Church. She was a former member of Dublin, Georgia and Tift Area Board of Realtors. She served as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels for several years. She enjoyed golf, reading, bridge and traveling to the beach and the mountains, Mrs. Perry was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Alexander Gordon Perry, who died on March 17, 2002. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Ann S. Hunter ; her brothers, Daniel N. Shaw and Alexander Edwin Shaw, III; nieces, Jane Hunter and Caroline Beaver; and a nephew, Alexander Edwin Shaw, IV. Mrs. Perry is survived by her two daughters and one son-in-law, Margaret Ann Perry and Catherine and Les Sutton, all of Jacksonville, Florida; one grandson, Kyle Gordon Sutton; a sister-in-law, Jane Blake Shaw; her nieces, Grace Abrams (Gene) and Lyle Shaw; a nephew, Neil Shaw (Marie); her grand-nephews, Daniel Shaw and Alex Abrams; her grand-niece, Ann Beaver; and Bob Beaver (husband of Caroline Beaver). The family would like to thank Catherine's private caregivers, Mina Stockie, Tina Gidado, Massah Makuwa and Candy Idienumah for their love and care they provided over the years. Abby Rivers Hand was a caring daughter, granddaughter, niece, and friend to many. She left this world on November 25, 2023. She was born on December 8, 2002, to Lawren Hand and Brook Crumley Hand. After graduating from Berrien High School in 2021, she continued her education at Abraham Baldwin College (ABAC) and was planning to continue at Valdosta State University for the winter 2024 semester. She was a member of Sigma Alpha sorority at ABAC, and she enjoyed the friendship of her sorority sisters. Abby had a profound love for pets and animals, and she enjoyed gardening, crafts, projects antiquing and many trips to Fernandina Beach Florida. Above all she loved God and her family and attended worship at First Baptist Church in Tifton. Abby is survived by her parents, Lawren Hand of Alapaha and Brook Crumley Hand of Enigma. She is also survived by her beloved sister, Laura Belle Hand of Enigma, her grandparents, Larry and Kathy Crumley of Enigma and Joan and Bill Drawdy of Alapaha. Her aunts, Heather Crumley of Enigma, Allyson Snipes of Canton, April Gordon (Blaine) of Savannah, her uncles, Ben Crumley and Ryan Ali of Jacksonville, FL, her cousins, Jake Purvis, Ashlyn Slayton, Tanner Snipes, Thomas Snipes, Zachary Ware, and Sam Snipes and many friends. A memorial of her life will be held on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at 2:00 p. m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals in Tifton with the Rev Mark Stone officiating followed by a graveside tribute at the Enigma City Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, from 6:00 to 8:00 p. m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Mitchell Maluda, Zachary Ware, Thomas Snipes, Sam Snipes, Jake Purvis, Tanner Snipes and Ronald Harbin will serve as pallbearers.
