Paul Mathis Obituary

Paul Lynn Mathis passed away at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas on April 22, 2023, at 11:41 p. m. at the age of 73. Paul is preceded in death by his father James Ray Mathis, his mother Vonnie Omal (Paul) Mathis, and his brother Bervin Ray Mathis. Paul is survived by his loving wife Linda Sue (Foster) Mathis of 54 years. They were high school sweethearts, married April 12, 1969. The two enjoyed lounging in their recliners together and talking for hours. Their favorite memories include 1960s drive-in dates, their 2012 road trip out west, and many life adventures in between. Paul is lovingly remembered by his wife Linda Sue (Foster) Mathis, his daughter Jennifer Sue and her husband Blaine White, and his son James "Jay" Paul Mathis and his wife Becky; grandchildren, Michael Slay, Vail Mathis and fiance Harrison Caubble, U. S. marine Levi Mathis and his wife Savannah, Ella White, and Vonee White; great grandchild, Karter Slay. Paul was born in Harrison, Arkansas on July 22, 1949. He graduated a proud Goblin from Harrison High School in 1967 and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in agricultural business from Arkansas Tech University. He worked as a ranch hand at Winrock Farms in Morrilton, Arkansas and eventually an insurance agent for Nationwide in Harrison, Arkansas. He retired in 2012. Paul enjoyed farming, raising cattle, watching old westerns, The Three Stooges, and anything Arkansas Razorbacks. He was an avid reader and napper. He loved spending most of his time with family, smoking the best, ribs, brisket, and prime rib around. You could always find him at his children's and grandchildren's sporting events. Paul always kept in touch with his old time Goblins from catching up on the sidelines to meeting with his monthly breakfast club. The visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 PM Wednesday April 26 at Coffman Funeral Home in Harrison. The memorial service will be held at Coffman Funeral Home on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at 2:00 p. m. with David Williams officiating. Interment to follow at Maplewood Cemetery.
