Phyllis Jean Alexander, 84, of 74 Marlick Ave., Reedsville, passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at her home. She was born on August 18, 1939 in Buffalo, NY, a daughter of the late Daniel and Margaret E. (Stephens) Maracle. On July 23, 1960, she married Rodney L. Alexander, who preceded her in death on May 30, 2016. She is survived by: a son, William L. Alexander of Reedsville; a daughter, Beth Lynn Lawler of Pleasant Gap; three grandchildren, Katherine Murphy, Rebecca Murphy and Emily Lawler; two great-grandchildren, Jacoby Cassick and Roslyn Cassick; a brother, Leroy Maracle & wife Pamela of Dover, DE; and was loved by many nieces & nephews. Along with her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Daniel Maracle, Jr. and Gene Raymond Maracle. For a number of years, Phyllis was primary a homemaker. In 2004, she retired as a secretary for the Penn State University Theatre of Arts. She attended Grace United Methodist Church in Lewistown. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 17, 2024 at Henderson-Bohn Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Reedsville, with Pastor Doug Pierce officiating. Burial will take place following the service at Church Hill Cemetery. Myrle Margaret Madtes, 91, of Reedsville, passed away at 10 p.m., Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at her home. Born July 1, 1932, in Andreas, Schuylkill County, she was a daughter of the late Clair and Verna (Gilbert) Messerschmidt. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Paul Clayton Madtes Sr. Myrle is survived by: children, Brenda (Duane) Coulter, of Reedsville, and Dr. Paul C. (Judy) Madtes Jr., of Mount Vernon, Ohio; four grandchildren, Rev. Dr. Mark (Jessica) Coulter, Neil (Abby) Coulter, Sarah Madtes, and Matthew (Danielle, fiancé) Madtes; five great-grandchildren, Wesly, Gage, Dilan, Zalome, and Everett; and three sisters, Minerva Arner, of Allentown, Pa., Maryann Cronk, of Barton, N.Y., and Kathryn Snyder, of Middletown, Del. Myrle’s personal relationship with her Lord and Savior defined who she was. She and her husband, Paul, gave their time, talents, and money to God’s work most of their adult lives. In her later years, she enjoyed the community and fellowship of the Kish Valley Grace Brethren Church. Myrle was a long-time employee of Woolworth and worked her way to become the first female manager of a Woolworth store in her region of Philadelphia and New Jersey. Myrle was a devoted and loving wife. She loved and cherished her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a model of Christlikeness. It was her habit to read through the Bible every year and she carried the Word of God in her heart. She is rejoicing today in the presence of Her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., Friday, February 2, 2024, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Woodlawn, 200 North Main Street, Lewistown, followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Kenneth L. McKnight, Sr, 82, of 1632 Honey Creek Road, Reedsville, passed away on January 23, 2024, at home. He was born on May 7, 1941, in Lewistown to the late Hilton M. McKnight, Sr. and Mildred G. (Harbst) McKnight. On February 13, 1962, he married Inez Louise (Treaster) McKnight, who survives at home. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Diane L. Damicantonio and husband Jeffrey of Naginey, Laura Ann Hannon and husband Reid of Lewistown, Kenneth L. McKnight, Jr. and wife Wendy of Shrader, Mark A. McKnight of Granville, Brian K. McKnight and wife Gina of McClure, Daniel W. McKnight and companion Sue LeFevre of Burnham, Robert E. McKnight and wife Kristie of Reedsville; 14 grandchildren, Michael Lucas, Anthony Damicantonio, Nathan Collins, Brittany Tate, Ashley Kosman, Danielle Gaisior, Mark McKnight, Jr., Angela Birch, Dani Moist, Cody McKnight, Lindsey Fortuna, Beth McKnight, Austin McKnight, Logan McKnight, and 21 great-grandchildren. He worked as a painter at J-Wood in Milroy, Village Kitchens in Milroy, and lastly at KRT Cabinets until his retirement. He was a member of the Blue Rock Sportsman Club, Milroy, and the Shrader United Methodist Church. He graduated from Kishacoquillas High School in 1960, where he loved participating in track and field events while in school. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, hunting, fishing and also teaching his kids to hunt and fish. He was a rescuer of wildlife and loved being in the outdoors and collecting old bottles. Roscoe “Mitch” Mitchem, Jr., age 86, of Reedsville, PA, (formerly Roanoke, VA) passed into eternal life on January 15, 2024. Mitch put his faith in Christ Jesus as his Savior at a young age. He was not afraid of dying because he understood that for the Christian, to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:8). Born August 17, 1937, in Crystal, WV, Mitch was the son of Roscoe, Sr. and Elva (O’Dell) Mitchem. Preceding him in death were an infant daughter, his parents, and five siblings. His wife, Nancy, whom he married on April 2, 1961, also preceded him in death in 2017. Surviving are three children; Russell Mitchem (wife Gloria), Rachel Mitchem Jones (husband David), and Audrey Mitchem Garner (husband Curt): six grandchildren; Kristen Mitchem and Katelyn Byers (husband Owen), Bethany Jones Yoder (husband John) and Nathanael Jones (fiancé Jourdan Wehry), and Andrew and Paige Garner along with eight great-grandchildren. Mitch attended Herndon High School (WV) and served in the US Marine Corps from 1957 – 1963. He had an interesting and fulfilling career beginning in 1961 with White Westinghouse in Baltimore, MD. When offered an opportunity to relocate to southwestern VA in 1972 he gladly accepted. Mitch worked as an x-ray field service engineer in southwest Virginia until he retired in 1999. He always said how thankful he was to have such an interesting job working with so many nice people. Mitch was a great storyteller retelling many humorous childhood tales and stories of military life and career years. Mitch and Nancy exercised their special gift of hospitality throughout their marriage of over 56 years with many delicious cookouts and family gatherings. He will always be remembered for his steadfast devotion to family. He will be sadly missed, but the family looks forward with joy to being reunited with him in heaven one day. The family wishes to express their deep appreciation for all the wonderful caregivers who served Mitch in his last months of life. Services will be private. Arrangements have been entrusted to King Funeral Home LLC, 47 Carriage House Lane, Reedsville. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in Mitch’s memory to the charity of your choice.

Dolores M. Ostrosky, 94, of 124 Sparkle Drive, Reedsville, passed away at 12:59 p. m. on Friday, December 15, 2023 at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital. She was born on July 23, 1929 in Grassflat, PA, to the late Raymond and Olga (Gustafson) Conklin. On November 18, 1950, she married Arthur Ostrosky, who preceded her in death on October 17, 2018. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her siblings Alma Force, Alice Gers, Charles "Buddy" Conklin, a niece Sharon and daughter-in-law Sheri Ostrosky. She was the last of her immediate family. She is survived by her children: Mark A. Ostrosky of Coatesville, PA and Christine R. Kipp and husband Todd of Reedsville; three grandchildren: Nicole Ostrosky of Philadelphia, Brandon Ostrosky of Coatesville, PA and Cody Kipp of Reedsville, and two nieces and two nephews. She graduated from Cooper Township High School in 1947 and was primarily a homemaker, which she loved. She was a member of the Reedsville Lutheran Church. She enjoyed doing ceramics in her earlier years and loved to clean and enjoyed keeping her house cleaned and being a homemaker. There will be a visitation at Henderson-Bohn Funeral Home, 55 North Main Street, Reedsville, on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 from 10:30 - 11:30 a. m. , a funeral service following at 11:30 a. m. with Carla Volland officiating. (Dillman) Fultz on Oct. 1, 1998. Surviving are sons: Keith E. Fultz of Milroy and Randy L. Fultz and companion Miriam of Selinsgrove, Granddaughter Trista Hindman and husband, Jonathan of Shippensburg, sisters, Sara Hoover of Siglerville, Susan Shawver of McClure, sister-in-law, Donna Simonetti of Yeagertown and brother-in-law, Dave Hunter of Treaster Valley, as well as numerous special nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews that he referred to as "rednecks. " Along with his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by two sisters, Patricia Speece and M. Kay Hunter, a brother, Larry T. Kauffman, Sr. and Katie B. (Yoder) Kauffman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Kauffman and a step-mother LaRue (Bossinger) Fisher Kauffman. Surviving are children: Shirley Snyder and husband Ron of Mifflintown and their family, Roy S. Kauffman III of Milroy, Charity Stuck and husband Shawn of Milroy and their family, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, sisters: Esther Fisher of DE, Barbara Hetrick of Burnham, Judy Ann Patterson and husband Larry of Reedsville, and a sister-in-law Mary Kauffman of Kansas. He is also survived by many special nieces and nephews. He graduated in 1966 from Kishacoquillas High School and worked at Fisher's Electronics for 30 plus years. He then went to work at Agway in Belleville and retired from Agway in Mifflintown. Most recently he taxied the Amish. He was a member of the American Legion in Milroy. Most recently he attended the Windy Hill Bible Church in Burnham. He enjoyed getting together and spending time with his family. He enjoyed traveling to DE to visit his sister and going to Honey Creek every morning with friends for breakfast. There will be a memorial service held on Saturday, December 2, 2023 @ 10:30 a. m. at Henderson-Bohn Funeral Home, 55 N. Main Street, Reedsville, PA with Pastor John Reed officiating.
