Carole J. "Jean" Fairbanks, 89, of Groveland, passed away on Monday, December 4, 2023, at Port Healthcare Center, Newburyport. She was born in Lewiston, ME, on May 31, 1934, daughter of the late Walter and Florence Esther (Greene) Merryman. Jean was educated in the Groveland School system and was a member of the last graduating class of Groveland High School in 1953. Besides raising her children, she also worked for a short time at Marshalls in Newburyport and sold Jafra Cosmetics. Jean was an avid reader, enjoyed listening to music, loved all animals, especially her Brittany spaniels, knitting, crocheting and sewing. Jean was happiest when traveling and camping with her husband, Dave, visiting National Parks, faraway friends and family. She was a member of the Groveland Congregational Church-Faith Circle since 1946, as well as an amateur artist and a member of the former Haverhill Art Association. Jean was predeceased by her loving husband David C. Fairbanks, Sr. who passed away in 2005, her son David C. Fairbanks Jr. , siblings William M. Merryman and Allen W. Merryman, and son-in-law Alan J. Conte. She is survived by her loving daughters, Lori J. Conte of Merrimac, Kathie A. Fairbanks-Duchemin of Lunenberg, and Susan Tilden and her husband Michael of Groveland. She is also survived by her brother Clinton W. Merriman and his wife Lisa Merryman of Manchester, NH, former daughters-in-law, Dawn Marie Fairbanks and Cheryl Fairbanks. She was the loving grandmother to 11 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. She leaves behind several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her visitation on Friday, Dec. 15, 2023, from 10-11:30, at the H. L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer St. , Haverhill. Her funeral service will follow at 12 noon in Groveland Congregational Church, 4 King St. , Groveland. Interment will be in the Riverview Cemetery, Groveland. LAWRENCE - On December 1, 2023, the Horton family said goodbye to their beloved mother and abuela. Miriam passed peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones. Miriam E. Horton was born in Samana, Dominican Republic, and came to the United States with her sisters Martha and Jacqueline in 1965. After arriving in the U. S. , she was embraced by the Brito family, Rev. Issac, Aurora, Gustavo, Nelson, Samuel, Ruben & Israel who gave her another family to call hers and loved her deeply. She later went on to have a family of her own and is survived by her three children, Diogenes, Benjamin, and Raquel Horton who blessed her with eight loving grandchildren; JR, Felicia, Miriam, Annabelle, Josie, Joeliz, Joenya, and Maxwell and six great-grandchildren; Dionelly, De'Lijah, Junaraliz, Lizjunet, Inyahlis, and Dior. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews; Martha, Evelyn, Esther, Jocelyn, Carlos, and Esteban. Miriam was a kind and religious woman. Whether you were family or a stranger, she would always welcome you with a warm cup of coffee or a hot plate of food. Miriam will be remembered for her selflessness and everlasting desire to help others in their times of need. She demonstrated this love and care for others through her final days. HAVERHILL - Daryl E. Johnson of Haverhill, MA, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2023, at High Pointe House in Haverhill, MA. Daryl was born on August 11, 1946, in Richmond, VA. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Daryl is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Helen Griffin; his daughter, Brandi Johnson Greene (Lance) of Beverly, MA; his son, Deron Johnson (Beth) of Winter Park, FL; his cherished granddaughter, Nevaeh; his brother, Adrian Blair; two nephews, Ron Johnson and Adrian Blair Jr. ; niece, Daria Johnson, in addition to cousins, grandnieces/nephews, and extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his mother, Evelyn (Simms) Johnson-Blair and his brother, Ronald Johnson Jr. His family was his pride and joy, and he took immense pleasure in all their accomplishments. Daryl was a proud graduate of Maggie L. Walker High School (class of 1964) and Morgan State University (class of 1968). His achievements extended beyond the classroom onto the football field. As the starting quarterback in college, Daryl led the Morgan State Bears to three undefeated seasons, earning the team national recognition and an invitation as the first HBCU to compete in the 1966 NCAA Atlantic Coast Tangerine Bowl (now referred to as the Citrus Bowl). Daryl completed his collegiate career as a three-time CIAA Conference Champion; a two-time NCAA National Champion; a 1st team Pittsburgh Courier Black All-American Defensive Back, and was the 1967 NCAA Small College Player of the Year (a prestigious award presented by the Pigskin Club of Washington, D. C. ). His athletic prowess earned him a revered place in both the Maggie L. Walker and Morgan State Athletic Halls of Fame. In 1968, Daryl was drafted in the 8th round of the American Football League to the Boston Patriots as a standout Defensive Back. His tenacity, I. Q. , skill set, and athleticism earned him a starting role during his rookie season. He entertained and inspired fans enough to be voted onto the Patriots All-Decade Team of the 1960s. Daryl was an esteemed member of the Boston Patriots (AFL) from 1968-1969 and the New England Patriots (NFL) from 1970-1972. He ended his professional playing career in the World Football League on the Houston Texans and Shreveport Steamer teams (1974-1975). Beyond the football field, Daryl also held many professional careers. He was a co-host on the Radio Show "Your Sports IQ" (alongside his friend and fellow New England Patriot, the late Jim Nance); a District Manager for the Chrysler Corporation; a Stockbroker for Bache, Halsey, Stuart, Inc. ; a Claims Adjuster for Kemper Insurance; a Human Resource Consultant, Small Business Liaison Officer, Purchasing Agent and Senior Buyer for Textron Defense Systems; and a Probation Officer in the Stoughton District Court. Additionally, Daryl co-owned a clothing store located in Belmont, MA, and eventually created two businesses of his own - one as a General Contractor and the other as a Sports Consultant advising athletes across the professional, collegiate, and high school levels. In his spare time, Daryl coached track and field at Saugus High School; football at Austin Prep; and two semi-pro football teams. He also volunteered and coached basketball for the Special Olympics. Daryl further exemplified his commitment to community and service serving on the Minority Business Task Force to advise Senator John Kerry on small business matters and was also a Master Mason of the Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons. Daryl's life was rich with achievements, but it was his character that truly set him apart. His strength, loyalty, and warm spirit will be remembered by all who knew him. His life was a testament to resilience, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. As we mourn the loss of this extraordinary man, we also celebrate his life and the remarkable impact he made on so many. His spirit will forever be a part of the communities he touched, the sports he loved, and the hearts of his loved ones. Private services will be held. Rosemarie A. Lannon, 77, of Haverhill, MA peacefully passed away on Thursday, November 30, 2023 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Born on July 23, 1946, she is the daughter of the late Joseph R. and Marie (Palladino) Palange. Rosemarie was born and raised in Somerville, she got her Master's degree and worked in the Cambridge School System for many years, later working in High Tech sales. Rosemarie loved to travel with her husband Bill and enjoyed countless winters and summers on Moose Pond in Bridgton ME. She was an excellent cook, loved to ski and go on walks with her friends in her free time. She was very involved in her community and was a proud member of the Merrimack Valley Partners in Service, and on the board at Northfields in Haverhill. She loved to spend time with her family more than anything, Rosemarie was kind, selfless and had a great sense of humor. Along with her parents, Rosemarie is predeceased by her brothers Thomas Palange and David Palange. Rosemarie will be deeply missed and is survived by her beloved husband, William C. Stacy A. Whalen, 52, of Haverhill MA, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, November 25, 2023. She was born in Lawrence, MA on August 13, 1971, daughter of James and Maureen (O'Connor) Whalen. Stacy graduated from Timberlane Regional High School with the Class of 1989. After high school she continued her education in the medical field and went on to hold numerous roles as a Licensed Practical Nurse, an OR technician, a Certified Nursing Assistant and spent many years as a Secretary at Lawrence General Hospital in the ER, a job she truly loved. You could always find Stacy sitting by the ocean. She loved the sand, the water and the sunshine, no matter the place. She enjoyed spending her time in York Beach, Maine where she admired the Nubble Lighthouse and spent many summers as a teenager working at York's Wild Kingdom. There she made lifelong friends and memories. Stacy also enjoyed many trips to Florida, with her parents and family. Her favorite activities included her morning trips to Dunkin Donuts, relaxing at the beach and watching the sunsets, reading, advocating for marine life, camping in Salisbury reservation and admiring numerous lighthouses. She was always up for an adventure and loved taking long drives, without a destination in mind. More than anything, Stacy enjoyed spending time with her friends and family and loved caring for her two cats, Charlotte and Tucker. Stacy will be remembered by her contagious laughter and sense of humor, her kindness, her resilient spirit and her strong love for her family, friends, and all of those around her. To know Stacy, was to love her. In addition to her loving parents, she is survived by her two children, whom she was incredibly proud of, Nicholas Bonasoro of Boston, MA and Isabella Ross of Haverhill, MA, her younger brother Christopher Whalen and his wife Courtney Patti of Virginia, her niece and nephew Alexandra Whalen and Connor Whalen, as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
