Giovannina (Greco) Mancuso

location-icon

Coraopolis, PA

Giovannina (Greco) Mancuso, 99, a life-long learner, passed away on Monday, February 19, 2024, at her home with her family present. Giovannina was born in Savelli, Italy on May 30, 1924, one of two children( her brother preceded her in death) born to the late Angelo and Maria (Pontieri) Greco. Her young life was lived in Italy before the beginning of World War II. She married the love of her life in 1946, Francesco Mancuso. Their lives during WWII took a different turn, one that would separate them physically. Francesco, a member of the Italian Army, became a prisoner of war leaving Giovannina by herself to deal with the heart ache of loss. Giovannina lost her eight-month baby girl, Clara, to the hardships of the war with poor medical care and no antibiotics. After the war, they were reunited and in 1956, Francesco decided on making a new life in the land of opportunity, America. As required by new immigrants, he became an American citizen, held a job, bought a house, and sent for his beloved wife Giovannina and their two children after the required two-year wait. In 1958, both she and Francesco made Coraopolis their home. Francesco and Giovannina were overjoyed to have their fourth child, they joined St. Joseph Church, and raised their children in the Coraopolis Schools. Giovannina took classes at the local school to become an American citizen and learn the English language. Giovannina, always an industrious worker, she worked for 26 years for Gladieux where she excelled, was recognized with awards and promotions. Giovannina was a joyful person, always laughing, giggling and had a catchy sense of humor. Fearless, she rode her first roller coaster in her eighties. She made COVID lockdown fun for her family, making silly videos, dancing in her home, and singing. She was a devoted grandma, learning to drive at 60 and transporting grandchildren to their various activities. Her grandchildren, as well as others, appreciated her open-mindedness and her non-judgmental attitude. Beloved wife for 61 years of Francesco Mancuso; loving mother of Maria Feathers, Vince Mancuso (Kathleen MacGregor), Connie Valladares, and the late Clara; devoted Nana to Brian, Sophia, Jovanna, Vince, and Erica; Bisnonna to Frankie, Nina, and Aldo. Visitation Saturday from 10 AM until the time of service at 12 Noon at COPELAND’S MOON TOWNSHIP,981 Brodhead Rd. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. As Giovannina was generous beyond measure, the family asks you to be generous and kind to others and go out of your way to do something nice for someone that you meet on the path of life.
