Betty Stephens Hudson, age 88, of Northport, AL passed away Saturday, November 25, 2023 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Betty was the daughter of the late Vollie Barton and Dorothy Francis Barton. She was preceded in death by her first husband, the late William Ted Stephens, Sr. She is survived by her current husband, James T. Hudson. Betty is also survived by her daughter Cheryl Tucker (Larry), daughter Sabrina Lambert (Roger), son Ted Stephens, Jr. (Brenda), son Thom Stephens (Melody), step daughter Diane Hudson New, step son John Hudson (Julie), step son Ross Hudson (Sherrie), the late step son Tommy Hudson (Jenny) as well as a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Betty loved the Lord with all her heart and served Him faithfully. She was a lifelong member of Five Points Baptist Church. She was a woman of strong Christian faith and integrity. Her past time was spent in the kitchen cooking and baking for others, however, there was nothing more important to her than her family. The love of her family is what put a smile on her face and a joy in her heart. This world was a better place with her in it, and for this, Betty will be greatly missed. The family will receive friends Thursday, November 30, 2023 at 1:00pm at Sunset Funeral Home in Northport, AL with a Celebration of Life Graveside service following at 2:00pm with Rev. Doris E. Walker, age 91, of Northport, Alabama passed away on Sunday, November 19, 2023. Doris was preceded in death by her parents James Monroe and Mable Irene Montgomery; husband James Carl Rice (1976); husband Glenn N. Walker (2010); son Marvin Gilbert Essay; and older brother James E. Montgomery. Doris is survived by her sons James E. Rice (Lori) of Marion, IN; and son Joe A. Rice of Northport; granddaughter Lauren Rumple (Kurtis) of Marion, IN; grandson Chris Rice (Kaleigh) of Northport, AL and three great grandchild Hadley, Eli, and Rory Rumple. Doris was born Doris Elizabeth Montgomery on August 5, 1932 in the area of Tuscaloosa County know as North River to her parents James Monroe and Male Irene Montgomery. She grew up in the Mt. Olive community where her love of gardening, nature, and country living originated. Doris attended Mt. Olive School followed by Tuscaloosa County High School where she graduated in 1950. She married James Carl Rice in January 1962. Along with her son, Gilbert from a previous marriage, they moved to Anchorage, Alaska shortly thereafter. The family returned to Northport in 1966. She was widowed in 1976. In 1985 she was married to Glenn N. Walker and lived happily in the Romulus community the remainder of her life. She lived Glenn and enjoyed time with his sons Glenna and his wife Patsy, Benjie and his wife Donna, and Harold and his wife Flora along with their children and the extended Walker family. Doris began work when she was 14 an McLellan's Five and Dime store. She later worked at Bryce Hospital (where she met her life long best friend Edna Miiller), Gulf States Paper Mill, and the JC Penny catalog department. She developed friendships from each of these workplaces. Doris died on Sunday November 19, 2023 at Hospice of West Alabama. Befitting her love of gardening and flowers, the final bloom of the season from her Geranium was on her bedside table. Doris was a faithful and devoted wife, a wise, loving mother and a wonderful Nanna. She loved baking, cooking and had a green thumb. She loved watching and feeding birds. The most important thread that ran throughout her life from her childhood in the Great Depression to her death was her faith in Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord. She now resides in his presence for eternity, a citizen of heaven where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. A visitation for Doris will be held Wednesday, November 22, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at New Hope Baptist Church in Romulus. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM at the church. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Baptist Church Cemetery following the service.
