Mass Of Christian Burial for Stanley H. "Mike" Mallette, age 90, of WayneSt. Mary's Catholic Church Wayne Friday 10:30 a. m. November 10, 2023 Rosary Friday 9:00 a. m. with Visitation to follow until time of service all at St. Mary's Catholic Church Wayne Arrangements with Hasemann Funeral Home of Wayne Interment Military Rites Greenwood Cemetery Wayne. Memorials may be directed to the Mallette family for later designation. He passed away Saturday November 4, 2023, at Providence Medical Center in Wayne. Stanley Harold "Mike" Mallette was born December 2, 1932, in rural Dodge County to Cliff and Edith (Hultman) Mallette. He graduated from Uehling High School in 1950, and was an All State Basketball player that year. Mike served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955. In 1955, while still serving in the military, his baseball team was coached by Billy Martin and Don Zimmer of the New York Yankees. After receiving his honorable discharge, Mike hit two triples off Hall of Famer, Bob Gibson leading Winside to a 2 - 1 victory over Wayne. Mike graduated from Wayne State College in 1956 with a teaching degree and received his Master's Degree in 1966. He played varsity basketball for four years at Wayne State College then played and coached semi-pro baseball for Fremont, Wayne, and West Point. Mike married Donna Roeder May 28, 1956 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hartington. They taught together in the West Point Public School System from 1956 - 1964, then Wayne Public Schools, until retiring in 1993. Mike taught Industrial Arts, Physical Education, and he was the head basketball coach. He then was the head baseball coach at Wayne High School when his teams (won State Class B titles 1968, 1970, 1976) and taught Drivers Education. He also was a football and basketball referee. Mike was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Wayne. He enjoyed retirement, their ski condo in Winter Park, CO, working out, gardening, coffee with friends, and spending time with family and their off-spring. Mike is survived by children, Paul (Dawn) Mallette of Fort Collins, CO and Holly (Aaron) Nissen of Delta, Utah; grandchildren, Adam (Mandy) Mallette, Ashley (Adam) Rossbach, Steffanie (Keith) Barkman, Nicholas (Taylor) Nissen; great-grandchildren, Bradley Mallette, Jacob Mallette, Samantha Mallette, Riley Rossbach, Hannah Rossbach, Patrick Rossbach and Theo Backman; sisters, Lylas Guthrie of Hooper and Bonnie Larson of Oakland; nieces and nephews. Mike was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Donna, June 8, 2020; sister, Vivian (Lee) Babcock and brother, Steve Mallette.
