Patricia Steichen Obituary

Patricia Ann Steichen passed away on September 5th, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was beloved by her children, grandchildren and husband who miss her dearly. A visitation and time for gathering will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, Dubuque, Iowa, from 11:00 a. m. until 3:00 p. m. There will be a prayer service held at 3:00 p. m. Burial will be at a later date in Greenwood Cemetery in Galena, Illinois. Patricia Ann Steichen, 86 of Dubuque was born to Edward "Red" and Mildred (Engel) McGuire in 1937 in Galena, Illinois. Patricia met Raymond Steichen at the Firemen's Ball at Turner Hall, Galena, Illinois in 1957. They danced their way through courtship and married in November of 1958. Their children are Karl (Kassandra Powell) Steichen, Karen (Brian) Huskins, Paul (Bich Tran) Steichen and Kathy (Christopher Urias) Steichen. Grandchildren are Katelyn and Jesse Huskins and Ethan and Grace Steichen. She loved family, friends and a good joke dearly. Domestic and international travel was a valued family activity as were working together with family on many projects including gardening. She traveled to several countries including Canada, Mexico, Egypt, Turkey, Israel, Ireland and across Europe with family. Patricia attended Marquette University and worked in several areas as a registered nurse. Her love of reading was instilled in her children from a very young age when she read novels and stories of the outdoors aloud to them as infants onward. She loved cooking and especially baking. She received a kidney transplant from the University of Wisconsin, Madison and her health flourished for many years. She was preceded in death by a brother at birth and a sister Marilyn Fruehauff. Patricia had a great love for animals, outdoor activities, and those less fortunate. The family is thankful for the partnership and guidance of Hospice of Dubuque and their caring, diligent and professional services partnering with the family in her care for the last two months of her life. Also a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Whalen and Dr. Hermann for their outstanding care.
