Shreveport, LA
Patricia Maureen Fenton "Trish" Schoolfield died peacefully at home with her adoring husband and children by her side on May 6, 2023, after a hard-fought, two-and-a-half year battle with cancer. The youngest of five children, Trish was born on March 8, 1956, to Eloise Rowan Fenton and Francis I. Fenton Jr. (Colonel USMC) at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, SC. With a Marine family legacy dating back to World War I, she was a Marine Corps "junior" whose father was stationed at military bases throughout the country including Norfolk, VA; Camp Pendleton, CA; Fort Leavenworth, KS; Pearl Harbor, HI; Twentynine Palms, CA; and Quantico, VA. After attending high school in Centerville, OH, and Peachtree City, GA, Trish attended Georgia Southern University. Trish met the love of her life, Clint Sumbera Schoolfield, in Peachtree City and the two were married on January 8, 1977. While living in Bristow, OK, they welcomed their three beautiful children, Brent, CJ and Lindsey, who are the light of their lives. They moved to Shreveport, LA, in 1990, where they set down roots and made their home. Never one to leave a task undone, Trish finished her degree in education from LSU-Shreveport and served her community as an educator at University Elementary School. A tough yet dedicated teacher, Trish thrived watching her students succeed in school and beyond. She retired from teaching in 2018 to spend time with her family and grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. After retirement, Trish filled her time at Favorite Sisters' Boutique, helping customers and making friends, always with a smile on her face. With a competitive streak and a passion for sports, Trish loved horseback riding in her younger days, playing tennis, watching Atlanta Braves baseball and rooting for Texas A&M, where her two sons were proud Aggies. Toddy, as she was affectionately called, could also be found cheering on the sidelines of her grandchildren's soccer, basketball and t-ball games any chance she could get. Above all else, Trish's proudest accomplishment was her family, which she cherished with every fiber of her being. Her three children and nine grandchildren were the center of her life, and she loved nothing more than being together celebrating birthdays, holidays, school events, recitals and everything in between. Trish adored big gatherings, family Thanksgivings at Featherstone Ranch, her countless friends, a captivating book, a stiff old fashioned, and doting on her grandchildren. Trish was a faithful member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church and served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years. Trish is preceded in death by her father and mother. She is survived by her husband, Clint; sons Charles Brent Schoolfield and wife Sarah of Fort Worth, TX; Clint Sumbera Schoolfield Jr. and wife Nicole of Mandeville, LA; and daughter Lindsey Schoolfield Looney and husband Thomas of Texarkana, AR; nine grandchildren, Camille, Mae and Eloise Schoolfield; Harrison, Mary Margaret, Shepard and Lily Schoolfield; and Emmett and Evelyn Looney; siblings Mickie Nolan of Dacula, GA; Frank Fenton and Chris Steries of Scotts Valley, CA; Col. George Fenton and wife Vicky of Fredericksburg, VA; Russ Fenton and wife Ellen of Bluffton, SC; and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends who loved her dearly. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful staff at MD Anderson and Christus Highland for their care and compassion for Trish including Dr. Matthew Campbell and Dr. Vivek Subbiah. Pallbearers will be Brent Schoolfield, CJ Schoolfield, Thomas Looney, Frank Fenton, George Fenton and Russ Fenton. A visitation will be held at 4:00 p. m. and her rosary recited at 6:00 p. m. on Thursday, May 11, at Osborn Funeral Home. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 12, at 10:00 a. m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church with a reception to follow at East Ridge Country Club.
