"Obituary for Roberto P. Ozuna Robert P. Ozuna passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Monday, November 6, 2023 at the age of 97. Robert, also known as Beto, or Roberto, by his family and friends, lived a long and fruitful life, mainly in Bakersfield, CA (from the late 1940s to 2022). Beto never knew a stranger and would make friends with anyone who had time to listen to his amazing and light-hearted stories of his traveling experiences across the United States in the 1940's. He could light up a room with his smile and those around him could always expect a solid hand on their back. He came into this world as the son of Theodoro and Trinidad Osuna on January 31, 1926, in Bellinger, Tx. He was the tenth of eleven children, of which he was the last surviving member of his family. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Sofia Arismendez Ozuna, his son Robert Ozuna Jr. and Stanley Wara Saldana, his great grandchild. On January 27, 1952, Beto married Sofia Arismendez. They had five children: Robert Jr (Glenda), Elsa Ozuna-Richards (Kris), Sylvia Ozuna Jones (Chris), William Ozuna (Jane) and Cyndi Ozuna Bomar (Ken). Beto was blessed with ten grandchildren (Brandy Lozoya, Brent & Drew Saldana, Bill II & James Ozuna, Katrina & Christopher Jones, and Elizabeth, Katie and Teri Bomar) and 16 great-grandchildren. In his early life, he traveled and worked at various jobs. He later would settle and work in road construction in Bakersfield, Ca. Beto worked with Dicco Construction Company and Granite Construction after they purchased Dicco for 25 years and a member of the Local 220 for 73 years. He served as President of the Commite de Beneficia Sucursal #6 for several years. He was proud of his involvement in the Commite for all of the work towards providing scholarships and benefits to their members and youth. Beto's longevity can be attributed to his positivity and deep faith. He was a prayer warrior praying religiously every night for his family, church, community and national leaders. Beto stayed very active his entire life and loved his independence. He had great hobbies throughout the years, macrame, long walks, word puzzles, reading, eating Mexican food and traveling. Above all, he and his wife, Sofia loved to dance and were masters in the Balero dance style. After her death, he continued to dance and was always complimented for his grace across a dance floor. He was a great man, husband, father, grandparent and an awesome uncle to so many nieces and nephews--all of whom he loved dearly. We will miss you beyond words.
