Laura Glasgow-Hall

Laura Glasgow-Hall

Age - 73

December 10, 2023

"Laura Janell Glasgow-Hall, friend, wife, mother, activist, creator, trailblazer, and inspiration to us all passed on Tuesday, November 28th. She leaves behind her daughters (Laura and Katie), brother (James Glasgow), pup (Waffles), cat (Boo) and many, many beloved friends. Janell was born November 8, 1950 to James Ellis and Janie Dell Glasgow. Her father passed away when she was 16, and she was primarily raised by her mother, a gritty gal from Shelbyville, TN, and siblings. Being the youngest of the bunch, she looked up to and adored her sisters (Nancy Kee & Martha Sanders) and brother (James "Buddy" Glasgow). She always spoke of growing up in a four room home in East Nashville, her mother's coffee biscuits, and tagging along on her siblings' dates. When she was eighteen, she enrolled in Vanderbilt's Peabody College and majored in English Literature. She loved books, poetry, and history, and had a penchant for being able to use words to paint incredible narratives. Honing her communication skills, Janell began her career as a young cub reporter, writing for the Nashville Banner before transitioning to events management. She owned a public relations firm, creating some of the most memorable events in the Nashville area, such as the Summer Lights Festival. As a friend put it, "she was as scrappy as she was elegant. " In 1984, she met Robert F. Hall on the Lockeland Springs Tour of Homes, which she had a hand in bringing to life. Robert, aka Bob, was a pilot for Delta Airlines as well as an avid cookie eater. She told the tale of them meeting, not as a result of intentional flirtations, but due to the fact that she had to remind him to stop eating all her cookies. Love blossomed from this chance encounter. Both were dreamers who shared mutual adorations of their hometown (Nashville) and historic preservation. Their dreams helped turn East Nashville into the vibrant, creative hub it is today. Her love for East Nashville was demonstrated by her compassionate giving to the community, through active participation in local groups and organizations, such as the East High Class of '68 Alumni group and Tulip Street United Methodist Church. A landmark moment for Janell was renovating 514 Russell Street, a Dutch renaissance, nestled in Historic Edgefield. Not too long after completing renovations, she and Bob had two daughters, Katie and Laura. She adored her girls, traveling the world with them, and providing them with every opportunity to learn and explore. She always wanted to give them the world, and made every effort to make them feel loved. In 1993, Janell and her family moved to Brentwood, TN, where they became active members of the Brentwood United Methodist Church and their neighborhood, Brent Meade. Soon after, Janell decided to make a brave career move, partnering with her husband Bob, and becoming a real estate agent. Like everything else she did, she conquered and quickly gained a reputation in the field as an honest go-getter, representing her clients like they were family. She sold the first million dollar home in the neighborhood in 2005. Moving from East Nashville to Brentwood was a difficult change for Janell. She struggled with her new life in the suburbs. However, during this time, she was able to make some of the best friends she would ever have and loved them all dearly. They were especially important in 2012 when she was diagnosed with amyloidosis. At that point, she was given a year to live, and while this may have slowed many down, Janell was resilient, pursuing every channel to stay with her friends and family. Her efforts paid off, and she was able to spend 11 more years creating memories with her loved ones. As stated by a close friend, "Janell genuinely defies description in so many ways. . . she was smart and articulate, had an amazing memory for Nashville past that she made come alive in her writings! How I loved reading about her adventures, her enthusiasm, her curiosity, her honest and riveting take on life. We shared a love of the Antique and Garden Show, and a flower by any name. She was a faithful servant, living out the gospel message through her generous and inclusive spirit, her love and care for all who crossed her path, her genuine friendships. . . and no one could surpass her love for her family! . . . I was always impressed at her courage to shine a light on life, the way it presents, with all its imperfections included in the well-rounded picture of the glory it is. She was a role model for loving and accepting. . . she didn't walk away from difficulties, she became the grace that addressed them in love. She didn't squander a moment of her life. . . she used every day up and then some. " It is with immense sadness that we say goodbye to this amazing wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. All of our lives are better because she was in it. Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery is honored to care for the family of Mrs. Janell Glasgow-Hall during this difficult time. The family cordially invites guests and relatives for a time of visitation on Tuesday, December 5th, 2023, from four o'clock until seven o'clock in the afternoon, and on Wednesday, December 6th, 2023, from ten o'clock in the morning until twelve o'clock in the afternoon, with a funeral ceremony at twelve o'clock and burial to follow at Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5110 Gallatin Road, Nashville, TN 37216. Ray Roberts

Ray Roberts

Age - 94

December 10, 2023

Ray Glenn Roberts, 94, of Nashville, TN passed peacefully at home the morning of December 6 surrounded by family. He was born on December 18, 1928, in Manchester, TN, to the late Walter Hale and Beulah Roberts. Glenn was a family man to the core. Nothing made him happier than gathering the whole family together to celebrate an event or holiday over a meal. Having three boys, there was always some sort of activity requiring his attention. Weekends were filled with football and baseball games, camping trips, fishing, and hunting. The boys enjoyed a great childhood because Glenn sacrificed his free time to make it happen. He spent many cold and rainy nights sleeping on the ground with Boy Scouts from troop 60. Glenn was always on the sideline for the football or baseball game when the boys were playing. He showed them how to dig worms, bait hooks, and have fun even if the fish weren’t biting. He taught the boys that fun was being together as a family whether in the station wagon on vacation or cutting a few truckloads of firewood. Glenn was still heavily involved with the boys even after wives entered the picture, he just had to call on a different set of skills. He now became the expert in everything DIY. He and the boys tackled almost every job in home construction. He was still in a crawl space soldering plumbing pipe in his 80’s. He enjoyed the sense of accomplishment he experienced working side by side with the boys, especially when they were adding value and saving money. Glenn’s favorite hobby was working on the farm. It didn’t matter if he was cutting grass, bailing hay, or tilling his big garden, these chores always kept a smile on his face. Glenn also made significant contributions to the community. He was a longtime member of Bellevue Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years. He was awarded the District Award of Merit and the Silver Beaver from the Middle TN Council for his distinguished service to local Boy Scouts. Glenn is survived by his loving wife of 73 years, Gladys; sons Jeff Roberts (Vickie, passed 5/8/22), Steve Roberts (Pat), Russ Roberts (Leslie); grandchildren Stephanie Roberts, Emily McReynolds (Josh), Courtney Williams (Brian), Susan Hough (Cody), Brad Roberts (Zoe), Mackenzie Caraballo (Anthony), Hannah Roberts; great grandchildren Josie and Hazel McReynolds, Quinton and Oliver Williams, Evelyn, Raelynn, and Maelynn Hough, Beau, Henry, and Gunnar Roberts. There will be a Visitation on Tuesday December 12, 2023 from 9:30 am until the Celebration of Life at 11:30 am. All events will be held at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home located at 9090 Highway 100, Nashville, TN 37221. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial plants.Show more
