Patricia Ann Murphy Burch, 88, passed away at her home, surrounded by all her loved ones, on Monday, September 11, 2023. She was born on March 17, 1935 in Indianapolis IN to the late James Joseph and Margaret Ann Thomas Murphy. Pat was a past president of the Whitesville Lions club, a Melvin Jones Award Recipient, a Kentucky Colonel and a past president of the Municipal Clerks. She was the City Clerk of Whitesville for over 34 years. Pat started the giving tree at St. Mary's where she was a faithful volunteer. In addition to her parents, Pat is preceded in death by her husband, William Burch and her brothers, Larry and Terrance MurphyPat is survived by her children, Kim Howard, Tammy (Jerry) Howard, Rick (Debbie) Burch, Deanna Norris and Tricia (Chester Masterson); 15 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; 6 great great-grandchildren, and her siblings, James, Ann and Harvey Murphy. The family would like to offer special thanks to the sitters who quickly became family: Cathy Edge, Dana Payne, Erica Roberts and Connie Howard and to Hospice of Western Kentucky for their exceptional care. A Funeral Mass will be said on Thursday, September 14, 2023 at 10:00 a. m. at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church, with burial following at St. Mary of the Woods Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 from 2:00 p. m. to 6:00 p. m. with prayers at 5:00 p. m. at Cecil Funeral Home in Whitesville, KY. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the St. Mary of the Woods School "Together We Can" capital campaign or Hospice of Western Kentucky. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Joseph F. Wright, 81, passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at Owensboro Health. Joe was born on March 24, 1942, to the late Phillip E. and Elizabeth Knott Wright. He retired as an engineer with AT&T. Joe was a past president of the Whitesville Lions Club and Trinity High School Board and Booster Club, a member of the Telephone Pioneers and a longtime volunteer for the St. Mary's Picnic. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by 2 grandchildren, Taryn Wright and Olivia Wright and siblings, Betty Wheatley, Phyllis Millay, Helen Aull and Pat Wright. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Patty Cecil Wright; their children, Chris (Dr. Patty) Wright, Jim (April) Wright, Jason (Dr. Kathy) Wright, Stacy (Clint) Merritt and Shane (Tisha) Wright; grandchildren, Natalie Wright, Andrew Wright, Samantha (Colby) Westerfield, Victoria Wright, Jarrod Wright, Tyler Wright, Morgan Wright, Avery Wright, Wyatt Wright, Jacob Merritt, Lexie (Hassan) Green, Zack Merritt, Elijah Merritt, Rebekah Merritt, Cody Wright, Brianna Wright and Tayla Wright; siblings, Bill (Dianne) Wright and Patricia (Mark) Kasehagen; a half-sister, Brenda Taubitz and in-laws, Mike Aull and Mary Ann Wright and a small army of nieces, nephews and cousins. . John Dennis Haynes Sr. ,74, was called for eternal rest, Nov. 21st, 2023, at Baptist Deaconess Hospital in Madisonville. John was born on May 2nd, 1949 at his parent's home in Knottsville. He entered the United States Army at 17 years of age in 1966. He served his country with pride in Vietnam 1968-1969. He was discharged from the Army in 1969 but re-enlisted to serve again in 1974-1977. John retired as a master mechanic, last using his skills at Ward Implement. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dan and Edith Haynes; sisters Agnes Haynes and Patsy Haynes Oelze; and brothers, Frank Haynes and Kenny Haynes. He lost his oldest son, John Dennis Haynes Jr. on Nov. 4, 2023. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Brenda Roberts Haynes; his children, daughter: Jennifer (Bud) Howe; sons: David Haynes, Ben Haynes, and Justin (Carey)Haynes, and daughter-in-law April Payne Haynes; grandchildren: Lindsey (Hunter) Noffsinger, Johnathon Howe, Nolan Howe, Autumn Haynes, Megan Haynes, Brenna Haynes, Evan Haynes, Bryson Meyer, Zackary (Bree) Haynes, Emma Haynes, JD Haynes, Carlee Haynes, Jessica (Dustin) Roberts, Dustin Quinn, and Camille Quinn. His heart was also home to Taylor Hamilton Biondi and Will Hamilton; two great-grandchildren: Carslynn Haynes and Luna Haynes. John is also survived by nine of his 14 siblings: Danny Haynes, Bill Haynes, Leon Haynes, Ida Haynes Howard, Mike Haynes, Carol Haynes Oelze, Tom Haynes, Roger Haynes, and Larry Haynes. John's greatest accomplishments and pride were his children and grandchildren. He never missed an opportunity to tell them how proud he was of them and to tell them individually that they were his "hero". However, his work ethic, service to country, and love for his family were what made him the true hero. John was always an advocate for all those that have served their country in the armed services, but especially for the POW's who never returned. His service was honored with the support and care in his last few years by the wonderful staff at Western KY VA Center, in Hanson KY. Visiting hours are 9:00am-11:00am on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at Cecil Funeral Home. The funeral mass will be at 11:30am on Saturday at St. Williams Catholic Church with a military burial following at Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Velva Rae Baker of Whitesville, KY was called home on October 26th, 2023 at age 99, only three months shy of her 100th birthday. She was born in Hancock County to the late Temetrice Evan McDaniel and Buelah Mae Brandle McDaniel on January 18, 1924. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Harold Baker (1993). Her youngest daughter, Donna Draper Allen (2021). Her sisters and brothers: Clara, Nellie, Louise, Maitland, Junior, Therman, Richard, Ira, and Joe. For the last 70 years, she has lived at the corner of Herbert and Old Leitchfield Rd and just steps away from the Old Walnut Grove School site which she attended when she was a child. She attended Old Panther Creek Baptist Church where she was the oldest member. She was always faithful to her church, where she has served as a children's Sunday school teacher and also the treasurer for many years. She was an excellent servant of the Lord and a woman of great faith who looked forward to meeting her Savior face to face. She always had her Bible open on the kitchen table and dedicated herself to study and prayer, as her children and grandchildren witnessed throughout her life. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her grandchildren affectionately called her "Baker" and she always made it a point to spoil them. She was an excellent cook, homemaker and took great pride in keeping her yard beautiful. She held public jobs starting as a young woman. She worked at Ken-Rad Tube Company; she was an "Avon lady"; bookkeeper for her husband's welding shop, B&M Welding at Whitesville, and at Red Spot Paint until retirement. Everyone she met throughout her life, loved her and said she was the nicest person. She was A LIFE WELL LIVED!!!! Her family believes when she entered the gates of Heaven she heard Well done good and faithful servant. (Matthew 25:23 )Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Deloris Ann Kindred and her husband Terry Kindred; grandchildren, Jeff (Tonya) Draper, Pam (Ed) Hemmersbach, Robin (Deanna) Kindred, Laura Jewell, Heather (Danny) Cheek; 13 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 12:00pm on Thursday, November 2, 2023 Old Panther Creek Baptist Church, 3876 Herbert Road Whitesville, KY 42378 with Jeff Draper officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday from 10:00am until 12:00pm at Old Panther Creek Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Anna Vivian Hinton Roby, 95, was born October 7, 1927 and died on Friday, September 15, 2023. She was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening, freezing and canning fruits and vegetables and was the original bookkeeper for Roby's Garage. In addition to raising six children and sewing most of their clothing, she provided specialized care in her home for two elderly relatives. She was a lifelong member of St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church, Whitesville. She had great devotion to the rosary, praying many each day. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Francis J. Roby; her parents Arthur and Myrtle Christian Hinton; brothers Paul, Emil "Skeets", Raymond, James, Patrick (infant); and sisters, Clarita "Rete" Mayfield and Inez "Tommie" Rhodes. She is survived by her children, Sue Perkins (Frank), Ann Jeanette McDonald, Nancy Litke (Fred), Royce Roby, Keyna Voyles (Tommy) and Brent Roby (Sophie); seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass at will be at 10 a. m. on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church officiated by her grandson, Reverend Austin Litke, OP. Burial will be at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Cemetery with her nephews as pallbearers. Visitation is from 2 to 6 p. m. on Monday at Cecil Funeral Home with prayers at 5:30 p. m. Those wishing to honor her memory may make donations to St. Mary of the Woods School Building Fund, the Passionist Nuns or Hospice of Western Kentucky. The family wishes to express special gratitude to Dianne Glenn Birkhead APRN, and caregivers Paula Gordan, Wilma Knott, Carolyn Rogers and Josie Jackson who provided the care and support that made it possible for Mrs. Roby to remain in her home until her death.
