Wake Forest, NC

Sheila Irene Wooten Brown, age 60, went home to be with the Lord on February 24, 2024, after a sudden illness. Sheila was known for her loving, thoughtful, outgoing personality and her joyful spirit. She never met a stranger and was always willing to use her gifts to meet the needs of others. Her infectious smile and hugs were known far and wide. Everyone knew when Sheila Brown was in the building. She filled up every room she was in, and her light made a difference. Sheila’s greatest pride and joy were her two daughters, Anna and Lydia. Her devotion to her girls was unfailing. She was never without a kiss for a booboo, a sweet treat, or a giant bow to put in their hair. She loved caring for her girls, reading to them, singing with them, doing crafts and puzzles with them, and making them pose for millions of pictures! She was happiest when both her girls were home with her and Tom. A gifted educator, Sheila had a long career as a preschool teacher. “Miss Sheila’’ taught at Millbrook Baptist Preschool for almost two decades. She worked at Wake Forest Baptist Preschool WEE Care for the past two and a half years. She played an instrumental role in enhancing the curriculum there and took great pride in her contributions to the school’s art show. Sheila had a gift of creating personal relationships with children and parents alike. Sheila was a devoted member of Wake Forest Baptist Church, where she served as a soloist, choir, and ensemble member. She also worked with the youth program and was actively involved in all aspects of the youth choir. She served on many youth committees and continued her work with the youth group long after her girls had graduated. One of the great joys of her life was serving as a chaperone on youth mission trips, especially being the “unofficial” photographer. Sheila is survived by her husband of 31 years, Tom Brown; her daughters, Anna Brown and Lydia Brown; her mother, Shelby Wooten; her sister, Cindy Wooten Pare (Mike); two nieces, Emma Pare and Amanda Gibbs (Allen); and numerous other beloved family members.
