Marcus Earl Liddell was born in Louisville, MS on October 3, 1956, to Evaniel and Annie Mae Liddell. At an early age, Marcus accepted Christ and joined Willow Grove Baptist Church. His strong religious beliefs come from lessons learned in Sunday School and lessons from parents and grandparents. Marcus was a 1974 graduate of Noxubee County High School, and a long-time resident of Noxubee County, MS. Marcus recently retired as maintenance supervisor at Eastbrook Apartments in Columbus, MS. Previously, he was the maintenance manager for Cedar Heights Apartments and construction supervisor for United Management Systems, a self-help housing company. Marcus also worked in road maintenance for Noxubee County, District 4. Because of his education and self-determination, he self-trained in mechanical, construction, and bookkeeping. He enjoyed outdoor grilling, cooking desserts, driving his car, and creating memories with family and friends. Marcus Earl Liddell departed this life on November 12, 2023. He is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers: Harvey Liddell and Spencer Donaldson; and his deceased grandson, Dontavious Peoples. Marcus's memories will forever be cherished by: his wife, Tonette Harris-Liddell of Columbus, MS; his son, Markis (Pamela) Liddell of Columbus, MS; his step-children, Denesha Hudgins of Columbus, MS, Derrick Harris of Dickinson, TX, and Christopher Harris of Abilene, TX; 3 grandchildren, Jaquis Liddell, Lakia Hudgins, and Jasmine Peoples all of Columbus, MS; his sisters, Peggie Liddell of Columbus, MS and Vanessa (Mark) Liddell-Johnson of Southaven, MS; his brothers, James (Barbara) and Morris (Emogene) Liddell both of Columbus, MS; his npehews: Semaj, Shesan, Devegas, Delmario, Darius, Taurus, Morris, Jr. , Jamaal, Sean and Travis; his nieces, Danyell, Angelia and Erica; and a host of other relatives and friends.Show more

James and Vicky met in 1968 at Tougaloo Collage, near Jackson, MS. It was an instant connection and they soon fell in love and married in1969. They settled in Jackson, and James continued his education at Jackson State University as a Biology major and soon received his Bachelor of Science Degree. They were blessed with two beautiful sons, James L. Wicks Jr, and Derek A. Wicks. James' journey in education started as a teacher with Head Start in Jackson, and he immediately enrolled his two sons, Jimi and Derek, in the Head Start Program and took them to school with him every day. He soon started teaching high school biology for the Hinds County School District. He taught there for several years. There were many journeys as husband and father and the family made the decision to move to Los Angeles, California for other opportunities accessible to the family as a whole. California is where James's bright light really began to shine in his love for education. His knowledge of Biology, Chemistry, and the Sciences rose to the top of his field, and he soon developed a reputation as an expert in the field. He continued his education and received his master's degree from California State University Los Angeles. James had a special yearning for education in the field of science. He believed every student could thrive in the field of science if they were provided with a teacher who taught them to believe in themselves. He went on to achieve one of the highest honors as a high school science teacher by being one of five teachers in the country to become National Board Certified in Science in 2002. He was one of a few teachers in the Los Angeles School District who was a consultant for, "It's About Time Publishing Company" based in Boston. This company helped create books to integrate the five categories of Science into one book with the potential to be adopted by Los Angeles school district. James teamed with the head of Science Department at Cal State LA and traveled all over the US and to University's across the country conducting Science Workshops for High School Science Teachers. He received the Outstanding Teacher Award 2004-2005. He was awarded Educator of the Year in 2005 for LAUSD. He retired from teaching in 2013 but never retired from learning. James always said he "never worked and day in his life". His hobbies included:* Reading Science Books,* Gardening - Plants, Flowers, Fruits and Vegetables,* Indoor Hydroponic Gardening,* Going to ML Baseball Games,* Making the Garage into his man caveOn November 3rd, James passed away from that terrible disease called cancer. He looked at it as a nuisance that interfered with his life, more than he dreaded it. He faced death head on as he did his life; with strength and dignity, and grabbed it by the horns head on.Show more

Annie Will Scott Ross Bell was born January 5, 1947, in Columbus, MS, to the late William Jamison and Mattie D. Scott. Ms. Bell confessed Christ at an early age at Midway M. B. Church. She later joined United Christian M. B. Church and Shiloh FGMB Church where she attended faithfully until her health began to fail. She was joined in Holy Matrimony to Reverend James Ross, Sr. To this union, seven children were born, one of whom preceded her in death, Barbara Ann Ross Temple. After the passing of Reverend Ross, she later wed John Bell, who also preceded her in death. Ms. Bell was educated in the Columbus Public School System. She attended Mary Holmes Junior College and received her associate degree from East Mississippi Community College. Ms. Bell was employed at West Craft Headstart and New Baptist Temple Headstart as a bus driver. She later moved into the joy of teaching at New Baptist Temple Headstart and Coleman-ICS Headstart where she worked closely with her passion of special-needs children. Ms. Bell worked at Headstart for over 30 years. Ms. Bell loved cooking for the community, especially the Columbus Police Department and Fire Department. She was an avid fan of her police scanner. Against her children's wishes, Ms. Bell would often beat the police to the scenes of the crimes. Ms. Bell was preceded in death by her brothers, Herman Scott, Adolphus Jamison, Leroy Scott, and her sister, Alma Scott Reed. Ms. Bell's memories will be cherished by: Her children, Laurae Ross (Jimmie) Gunter, James Ross, Jr. , Earnest (Norma) Ross, Gary Ross, Danny Ross and Catina Ross. Her brothers, Willie (Debra) Scott, Eddy (Rhonda) Scott, Tommy (Karen) Scott, and Eddie Scott. Sisters-in-law, Eartha Jamison and Linda Scott and goddaughter, Angel Reed. Ms. Bell leaves a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many people who loved her.Show more

Sis. Annie Mary Ivy was born March 25, 1926 in Noxubee County, MS to the late Calvin and Henrietta Sturdivant. She departed this life on Monday, November 6, 2023 at Noxubee County Nursing Home in Macon, MS. Sis. Annie Mary confessed hope in Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at an early age under the leadership of Rev. C. C. Conner. Sis. Annie Mary, affectionately known as 'Dear' and 'Momma Dear' served faithfully singing in the Choir, President of the Usher Board, served on the Missionary Society and taught Sunday School for many years for the Primary Class; that was her passion in serving the Lord. Sis. Annie Mary and Alex Ivy was united in holy matrimony and to this union ten children were born. Sis. Annie Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Calvin & Henrietta Sturdivant; husband, Alex Ivy; three sons, Alvin Ivy, Elder Connie Boatman and Howard P. Boatman; three sisters, Mamie D. Wayne, Kisie A. Williams and Aretha Sturdivant Tate; four brothers, Calvin Sturdivant, Jr. , Aaron Sturdivant, Moses Sturdivant and Charlie Sturdivant. Sis. Annie Mary leaves to cherish her legacy; four daughters, Doris (Eddie) Hinton of Houston, TX, Laris (Thurman) Wells of Chicago, IL. , Marilyn Spivey of Naperville, IL. , Henrietta (Jim) Key of Macon, MS; three sons, George (Mary) Ivy of Chicago, IL, Harrison (Laura) Ivy of Columbus, MS and Minister Jerome (Deloris) Ivy of Indianapolis, IN, one sister, Addie Bush of Riverdale, IL; daughter-in-law: Lorraine Boatman of South Holland, IL; twenty-nine grandchildren, forty seven great grandchildren; sixteen great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.Show more

On November 1, 2023, God called upon Jonirus Qudrake Davis to receive his golden, heavenly wings and come home to glory. Jonirus was born on October 21, 1992, to Dennis Ray Coleman and Annie Davis Coleman. He confessed Christ at an early age and was a member of Second Baptist Church. He was a graduate of the Class of 2011 from Noxubee County High School. His favorite past times were fishing, going to the racetrack, playing sports, and spending time with family. Jonirus was employed by SGK Landscapes, INC of Starkville, MS for two years and with the city of Starkville for one year. He was a dedicated employee of Golden Triangle Waste Service of Columbus, MS. He loved his job and was friendly to all he met. Jonirus also loved the Philadelphia Eagles football team and was a huge fan. He was preceded in death by his father, Dennis Ray Coleman. Sis. Pearlie Mae Allen entered her earthly life on July 23, 1942, to the parents of Frances Lovelace Little and Elijah Whooper in Macon, MS. She was raised and was a lifelong resident of the Macon community. Pearlie received her education in the Noxubee County School System and graduated from B. F. Liddell High School in 1961. She accepted Christ as her personal savior and joined Zion Hill M. B Church where she remained a lifelong faithful member. She served in various organizations within the church including: the choir, food committee, program committee, usher board, and wherever her love and support was needed. Sister Pearlie Mae was also a vital part of her Piney Woods community. She was loved dearly and enjoyed her missionary work throughout the neighborhood. Sis. Pearlie was employed with the Noxubee County Health Department for many years until retirement. She was married to Leon Allen, Sr. , and to this union one son was born. Sis. Pearlie Mae Allen transitioned to her eternal home on October 28, 2023. She is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers: Nathaniel Little and Otha Little; her sister, Frances Denise Little; and her son, Christopher Allen. Pearlie Mae Allen's memories will forever be cherished: her children: Leon (Demetra )Allen, Jr. of Ardmore, OK, Rubye (Quency) Cook of Arlington, TX, Sherrye (Freddie) Bardley of Starkville, MS, and Chandra Allen of Grand Prairie, TX; her siblings, Jake (Gurlinda) Little, Larry (Deborah) Little, Laura Edwards, Dorothy (Otis) Grissom all of Detroit, MI, Vera (J.
