Ossie Amelia Crabtree, 74, passed away on Friday, September 8, 2023 at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill. She was born in Durham to the late John Phillip Crabtree and Fannie Taylor Crabtree. In addition to her parents, Ms. Crabtree was also predeceased by her brother, Phillip S. Crabtree. Ms. Crabtree graduated from Campbell University with an Associates Degree. She was a Secretary at the University of Chapel Hill for 30 years. She loved doing crafts and enjoyed baking. Ms. Crabtree is survived by her sister-in-law, Denise VanHook Crabtree; nephews, Tanner Jacob Crabtree (Tommy), Eric Phillip Crabtree (Amy); and uncles, Bryan Metts, Clarance Edwards, Bill Crabtree; and cousin, Brenda Evans (Benny). A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, September 15th at Fairview Baptist Church with Rev. Hoyt Shuford officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church from 10:00 to 11:00 am. Burial will follow in New Sharon United Methodist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Daniel Harton, Bobby Tant, Frank Nestor, Kevin Shuford, Todd Wood and Ronnie Craven. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at UNC Hospital for taking such good care of Ms. Crabtree. They would also like to thank the staff at the DaVita Dialysis Center for there care. Mr. Otis Howard Harvey, born as the third child to the union of Larry Harvey, Jr. and Ruby Lee Lewis Harvey on July 19, 1953, in Bladen County, North Carolina, was a beacon of strength and joy to all who knew him. After a life rich with love and service, Otis transitioned peacefully onDecember 2, 2023, in Durham, North Carolina. A proud graduate of Durham High School's class of 1972, Otis's commitment to his community was unwavering. He was a devout member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church, where he not only nourished his spirit but also served with heartfelt devotion in Sunday School, the Usher Board, and lifted his voice in praise within both the Male and Senior Choirs. Known for his impeccable style, Otis's love for fashionable suits, hats, gleaming shoes, and fine colognes was matched only by the warmth of his smile and the generosity of his spirit. He was the embodiment of STYLE, a true gentleman in every sense of the word. Otis's heart was a treasure trove of devoted love for his family, with whom he shared an unbreakable bond, woven through countless visits and shared memories. His passion for music, culinary arts, and sports was only surpassed by the love he poured into every relationship. The distinctive and profound connections he fostered are his lasting legacy, irreplaceable and cherished. Otis has now joined his devout father, Larry Harvey Sr. , in eternal rest. HILLSBOROUGH: Luther Miles Emory, 69, passed away on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at DukeUniversity Hospital. He was born in Alamance County, the son of the late Dallas Miles Emory and NonaMae Yates Emory Knight. In addition to his parents, Miles was also predeceased by his son, Jerry MilesEmory; and sisters, Gerri Kennedy, April Poe, Lisa Emory. Miles retired from Thyssen Krupp elevators in 2009 after being in the industry since 1972. During his career, Miles was an instructor at Greensboro Technical Community College in sharing his knowledge of the elevator industry. He was a certified scuba diver in Charleston South Carolina for search and rescue as a young adult. Miles was a loving husband, devoted father and cherished brother, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness and selflessness that will forever be missed. As a husband, his unwavering devotion to Gail was evident in every gesture, every word and moment they shared together. His love was unconditional, and his presence brought a sense of security and happiness to their lives. He cherished his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and his fur babies. His love and guidance will forever shape the lives of each one of them, leaving a lasting mark on their hearts. As a brother he would try offering a helping hand and a loving heart, his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of calling him brother. Miles is survived by his wife of 36 years, Gail C. Emory; sons, Rodney Thomas Emory, RobertMiles Emory; sisters, Connie Thompson (Leonard), Carol Bolick (David); brother, Anthony Emory;grandchildren, Christian, Brianna, Daniel, Loga, Trevon, Levi, Eric, Hunter, Leelan; and great-grandchildren, Damon, Cooper, Audrey. He is also survived by his four legged children, Tinkerbell and Pepper. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, December 12 th at Gospel Baptist Tabernacle inHillsborough with Pastor David Bolick officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
