Salvador John Hernandez was a hard-working and dedicated family man. John was born on June 30, 1933, in San Antonio and passed away at the age of 90 on November 23, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was a sports enthusiast, especially in baseball and basketball, which he played at Burbank High School and St. Mary's University. He was always eager and excited to share his expertise on the said sports. He coached several little league teams locally and internationally and received several awards. He proudly served in the Army as an Artillery Officer. His military discipline was reflected in his work ethics and in raising the family. His love of teaching took him to several military bases and countries to teach English as a Second Language and start English programs while employed by the Defense Language Institute. After retiring from DLI, he continued teaching at the Guadalupe Community Center to help students get their GEDs and/or citizenship certificates. He is survived by his wife Urinda, step-sons Chris Garcia and Steven Garcia (Nadia), children: Melissa Hernandez, Salvador John Hernandez II, John Pat (Karen) Hernandez, Sandra (Richard) McInturff, and Tommy Hernandez. Siblings: Robert Hernandez (Elaine) and Sonia Rodriguez (Arturo), 9 grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and extended family. In addition to his parents and step-mother, he was predeceased by a sister, brother Jesse Hernandez (Cynthia), son Gary Hernandez, and former spouse Delia Hernandez. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 4, 2023, beginning at 5:00 PM with the recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 PM at the Angelus Funeral Home. Mass will be held at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 600 Oblate Drive (78216) on December 5, 2023, at 12:15 PM. Burial to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.Show more

Maria Benavides Alvarado, 85, widow of Jose I Alvarado Sr. , went to be with the Lord at her residence in San Antonio, Texas, on November 20, 2023. She was born on September 14, 1938, in La Coste, Texas, a daughter of the late Celia Castillo Benavides and Ramon Benavides. She was also proceeded in death by husband Jose I Alvarado Sr. , in laws Santos and Petra Romero Alvarado, brothers Pedro, Luis, Marcos, Gustavo and infant sister Juana Benavides. Sister in laws Ida, Rosie, Angie, Mary Ann and Jean Benavides, Estella (Ruben) Ramos and Dora (Alfredo) Munoz and brother in law Alfredo Alvarado. Also by her loving partner Dimas Villanueva. Maria lived a life guided by her love and faith. She had many skills, hobbies, traditions she kept up with as a way to remember the past and celebrate that in the present. Cooking was her passion and she always made sure those she knew and loved were taken care of with her special dishes. She enjoyed baking and making tamales for all the family during the Christmas holiday. Her skills included sewing and carpentry which she would do on a daily basis. A very sociable lady, she loved going to the Bandera Flea Market every weekend with her sister-in-law and danced all day long. You could find her on the phone where she loved socializing for hours. Her style was impeccable, she loved fashionable clothes with bling, had a collection of earrings and plenty of jewelry. As a wife she was loving and protective, always placing the needs of her husband above her own. As a mother, she was nurturing and present, a constant source of guidance and support from the beginning. As a grandmother, she was the best anyone could ask for, she always enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. As a sister, she was generous with her time and a true friend. Her faith in the Lord and his teachings remind us that one day we will all be reunited once again. Family members include her children, Jose I Alvarado Jr. (Sylvia), Arlene Terrazas (Isaul), Abel Alvarado, Patty Alvarado (Tom) and Linda Alvarado (Mary Ann); 10 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, siblings, Rudy Benavides, Jose Benavides (Ernestina), Carlos Benavides, Raymond Benavides, Sally Benavides, Frank Benavides, Roy Benavides, Martha Reyes (Michael) and Henry Benavides (Patty); sister in-laws, Lilly and Hope Benavides, Rosa Quintero and Olivia Lopez, in addition to numerous extended family. The family will receive guests at Castillo Funeral Home on Sunday, December 3, 2023, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm and Monday, December 4, 2023, from 2:30 pm until 8:00 pm for visitation. A rosary will be recited on Monday, December 4, 2023, at 6:00 pm in the Castillo Funeral Home Chapel. On Tuesday, December 5, 2023, a funeral procession will depart Castillo Funeral Home at 9:30 am for the cemetery where a graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 am in San Fernando Cemetery III.Show more

Linda Villarreal Trejo, passed away on Saturday the 25th of November 2023, at the age of 68. She was born on October 18th, 1955, to Carlos D. Villarreal and Mary J. Villarreal in the heart of San Antonio with her three siblings. A 1974 graduate of Brackenridge High School she spent her adolescent years playing baseball, attending dances, being a member of the purple jackets pep squad, and loading up her parent's station wagon for trips to Gardner State Park. She would later move to Atascosa, Texas with her husband Joe E. Trejo Jr. to raise their daughter Lina Courtney Trejo and their son Jose E. "Trey" Trejo III. Linda was devoted to her faith in God that guided her through every stage of her life. She enjoyed the little things like listening to oldies while on the porch with a cigarette in one hand and a big red in the other talking to her family and circle of friends. She was a fierce and unstoppable mother, grandmother, and friend that tackled every situation head on with unwavering strength and unconditional love. Her son was her inspiration, but nothing made her more satisfied than being a grandmother to her three grandchildren: Noah Ashton Morales (Pumpkin), Gabriel Dayne Morales (Chapulin), and Jaycee Marie Morales (Diva). Her family was everything to her and her superpower was the gift of making a lifelong friendship with someone she met in line of the women's restroom. Her motto was "you can never have too many friends" and "it costs nothing to be kind and nice". Linda's hobbies include shopping, dancing, bingo, gambling, and sports. She was preceded in death by her father, Carlos D. Villarreal; father-in-law, Joe E. Trejo; mother-in-law, Eva G. Trejo; and brother-in-law, Carlos Trejo. Linda is survived by her husband of 48 years, Joe E. Trejo; emotional support partner, Bella (Precious); daughter, Courtney; son, Trey; grandchildren, Noah, Gabriel, and Jaycee Marie; mother, Mary J Villarreal; brother, Carlos Villarreal; sisters, Rose Villarreal (Jesus) and Cindy Hinojosa (Jesse); sister-in-laws, Elida Desmond (Ed), Sandy Detamore (Tommy), Cynthia Trejo, and Dina Poduska (Daryl); and lots of aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends.
