Ola Mae Jacqueline Hughes DeSmith went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 17, 2022, in Mesquite, Texas. She was born in Edinburg, Texas on February 4, 1933, to Henry D. and Rose Mae Hughes. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie F. DeSmith Jr. ; her parents, Henry D. and Rosa Mae Hughes and six siblings. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her cousin and caregiver, Willie Hargrove; nieces and nephews, Jamie and Kim Lancaster, Jody and Tonia Rae, Dane and Carol Johnson; cousins, Sherrie Burns, Amy Burns, Kevin and Cindy Burns, Rick and Coeta Rhodes, Brad and Mary Altmiller, along with her special loving friend, Theresa Sanchez. At age 22, Ola Mae earned her Licensed Vocational Nurse (CLVN) certification. She worked in various health care facilities for many years. Ola Mae will be remembered for her love of God. She grew up and lived in a loving Christian home. Ola Mae’s and Bennie’s best day of the week was Sunday. She read the entire Bible to Bennie three times during a span of several years. Ola Mae will be forever missed.
