Born in North Adams, MA to George Martin and Sarah Turner, Norman and his family moved to Schenectady in 1943. Norman held many jobs over the course of his life. He was a paper carrier for the Schenectady Gazette, delivered produce, ran hayrides at the old Rudd's beach, and worked in the kitchen at Ellis Hospital with his father. When he wasn't working on a project or visiting, Norman enjoyed watching the New York Yankees, John Wayne movies (he proudly owned every movie on VHS), wrestling, and absolutely anything on TCM. He also enjoyed singing; a favorite pastime from his childhood, when he and his siblings spent time together as a family singing hymns.
