Norman N. Dummermuth, age 84, of Manhattan, passed away on Friday, September 8, 2023, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan. Norman was born February 13, 1939, in Waterville, to John R. and Elizabeth A. (Wallace) Dummermuth. He graduated from Waterville High School in 1957 where he played on the 1955 and 1956 undefeated Yellowjacket football team. He joined the Kansas Army National Guard while still in high school. He then attended Kansas State University. He married Betty J. Tilley on October 10, 1958, at the Methodist Parsonage in Waterville. She survives. Norman and Betty enjoyed camping and boating with their children and later traveling in their RV. Norm operated the family farm southwest of Waterville for over 30 years. After retiring from the farm, he worked at Tuttle Creek State Park for 19 years. He was a member of the Waterville United Methodist Church where in his younger years he sang in the choir and later served on the Board of Trustees. He was a member of the Young Farmers of America and served on the Waterville COOP Board of Directors. Norm enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends. Survivors include his wife Betty, his three children: Barb (Rick Boss) Dummermuth of Waterville, John (Dawna) Dummermuth of Manhattan, and Bev Dummermuth of Brisbane Australia; six grandchildren: Tifanie (Blake) Martin, Valerie (Shaun) Winnie, Rusty (Courtney) Dummermuth, Lewis (Jessica) Boss, Natalie (Chance) DeForest, and Samantha (Eric Lira) Dummermuth; and fifteen great-grandchildren: Cayden, Kloee, Connor, Wyatt, Elsee, Lexi, Braxlyn, Jacqui, Waylon, Sterling, Lainee, Nellie, Paisley, Meyer, and Molly. Preceding Norman in death are his parents, his brother John W. Dummermuth, and sisters, Connie Blaser, Janice Menzel and Elma Mae Dummermuth. Viewing is from noon to 8:00 pm, Monday, at Christie-Anderes Funeral Home in Waterville. Funeral services are at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at the Waterville United Methodist Church, with Pastor John Collins officiating. Music will include piano and organ duet by Beverly Hedke and Delores Blaser. John Nordquist will sing "Amazing Grace" and "The Old Rugged Cross". Casket bearers include: Rusty Dummermuth, Lewis Boss, Blake Martin, Eric Lira, Shaun Winnie, Chance DeForest and JC Menzel. Burial is at Riverside Cemetery in Waterville. Teresa Kuckelman

Teresa Burton Kuckelman, 95, Frankfort, made her trip on Sept. 4, 2023. Teresa was born March 27, 1928, to Francis and Teresa Marksman. Teresa was born on a farm southeast of Frankfort and attended country school. She and her brothers and sisters walked to school every day, which was about three miles. This may have been where she developed her love for walking. When Teresa was three, she went with her older siblings to pick wild strawberries. She got tired and headed for home. When the other family members arrived at home and she was not there, they started searching for her. More than 1,000 men and women and bloodhounds from the county helped search and she was found 18 hours later unharmed. She was very happy to be reunited with her parents. Teresa grew up during the depression and remembers not having very much at all. They didn’t have an indoor bathroom and had to carry water in from outside. Teresa attended Frankfort High School and graduated in 1946. After graduation she worked for Doc Stewart in Frankfort and helped take care of new mothers and their babies. Teresa married Ralph Burton, in Frankfort, Kansas on Jan. 21, 1947, and to this marriage came nine children (three sons and six daughters). Ralph died on May 23, 1974. Teresa had been a homemaker until Ralph’s death and then she started working for the Frankfort Community Care Home. She worked there for close to 30 years. She enjoyed taking care of many of her neighbors and others that she was fond of. There were many nights she stayed after her shift had ended to sit with residents who were near death. She didn’t want them to be alone. Teresa was a long-time member of the Annunciation Catholic Church and its Altar Society. She volunteered many hours of her time to help with cleaning the church or working funeral dinners. Teresa was a one-woman Hospice program before it was invented. She was often found doing laundry or taking meals to shut-ins, shuttling neighbors to church, the store or to doctor’s appointments, or staying the night with someone who needed overnight care. Teresa was a firm believer in Guardian Angels and that all of her kids had good one’s growing up. Teresa loved playing bingo, going to the casinos, walking, looking for bargains, gooseberry pie, butterscotch, and Russell Stover chocolates. She loved making no bake cookies for her grandkids. Her favorite holiday was the Burton Thanksgiving when the entire family crammed into her three-bedroom, one bathroom house. She would make everyone say what they were thankful for before the blessing. The kitchen table would be loaded with food and after dinner the annual Thanksgiving Football game was held, followed by dessert. Teresa married Mark E. Kuckelman, Axtell, on July 26, 2000. He preceded her in death on May 3, 2015. Teresa was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Elizabeth Hoffman, Rose Mary Augustine, and Anne Feltner; brothers, Dominic Marksman, Paul Marksman, John Marksman, James Marksman and William Marksman; sons-in-law, David Crawford and Richard Davis. She is survived by her children: Donna Burton, Topeka; Mary (Phil) Joseph, Blue Rapids; Ralph (Kimm) Burton, Frankfort; Joe (Sandra) Burton, Frankfort; Kenny (Sue) Burton, Frankfort; Alice Crawford, Frankfort; Barb (Matt) Ohlde, Linn; Julie (Matt) Schindler, Wichita; Jane Welch, Topeka; 25 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren with the 6th one on the way. Pallbearers are her grandsons, Chris Davis, Ed Joseph, Don Joseph, Robert Burton, Danny Burton, David Burton, Derek Crawford, Josh Laflin and Burton Schindler. Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00-7:00 pm with a Rosary at 7:00 pm at the Annunciation Catholic Church in Frankfort. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, September 8, 2023 at the Annunciation Catholic Church in Frankfort with Fr. Anthony Chendumalli and Fr. James Shaughnessy as officiants. Burial will be at the Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Marie Forell

Marie Evelyn (Brown) von Forell was born September 4, 1920, to Bernard V. and Ethlyn (Hartman) Brown. The doctor said not to name her because she wouldn’t live more than a couple of weeks. She entered into eternal life April 3, 2023, at the age of 102 years, 7 months. Marie was born in Hebron, Nebraska, the second of four children. At a very young age, the family moved to Lincoln, Nebraska and then back to Hebron in 1928. She grew up during the depression with multiple generations living together at her grandparents’ home. Marie graduated from Hebron High School in 1938. Marie was married to Drexel G. von Forell on November 24, 1938 (Thanksgiving Day). They farmed at Hebron through World War II. In the late 1940’s, Drexel was called into the ministry and attended Manhattan Bible College. Marie became a supportive pastor’s wife. As she and Drexel moved from church to church, she held jobs as a bookkeeper at several banks in Nebraska, a hospital in Wisconsin; worked for the newspaper in Smith Center, Kansas, and Boss Motors in Marysville, Kansas. She raised four children in Kansas and Nebraska and participated in church life as the pastor’s wife for most of her married life. After their retirement, Drexel and Marie moved to Waterville, Kansas, and started renovating a 100-year-old home. They later moved to the Kansas Christian Home in Newton, Kansas Marie kept busy with her doll collection; began quilting and made quilts for each child and grandchild. She also made many quilts for charity and was the coordinator for the Kansas Christian Home sewing group which provided residents with gowns and bibs. If you had a baby, you probably received a Raggedy Ann doll. She made hundreds of these for gifts and for the church bazaars. In 2015 she moved to Manhattan, Kansas, to live with her daughter and son-in-law, as her glaucoma was getting worse. She continued making her charity quilts until she was 98. She was predeceased by Drexel, her husband of 58 years; her parents, Bernard and Ethlyn Brown; siblings, Gene Brown, June Hainlen and Melvin Brown; and granddaughter, Rayna von Forell. She is survived by her children, Gene von Forell (Brenda), Donna Copeland (Lee), Margaret Zimmerman (Bob), and Nancy Schurle (Fred); granddaughters, Deborah Copeland, Rebekah Palmero, Beth Hewes, Kaitlin Witt, Joelle von Forell and Danielle von Forell; great-grandchildren, Terran Copeland-Garcia, Aric Garcia, Allegra Garcia-Oliver, Bennett and Audrey Witt; great-great-grandchildren, Rowan and Gage Copeland-Garcia and Baby Boy Garcia (on the way); and 13 nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:00 p. m. Monday, April 10, 2023 at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a. m. Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at the Keats United Methodist Church with Pastors Sandy Ferguson and Gary Bell officiating. A graveside service will be at 3:00 p. m. Annette Kay (Nelson) Harlan departed this life on November 11, 2022, in Riley, Kansas. SERVICES ARE PENDING Annette was born January 19, 1943, in Concordia to John W. and Evelyn (Wheeler) Nelson and baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Greenleaf. She graduated from Barnes High School in 1961, and then attended Kansas State University and earned her Bachelor's degree in Business Education. After graduation, she taught business classes at Blue Valley High School in Randolph from 1965 to 1971 and enjoyed helping with various school activities including being the senior class sponsor. Annette met Robert (Bob) in December 1969 when he returned from Vietnam. They were joined in marriage on July 25, 1971, at Trinity Lutheran Church. Their union was blessed with two children, Rebecca and William (Bill). Annette enjoyed being a homemaker and stay-at-home mom. Annette was very active in church and taught Sunday school for many years. She loved animals and enjoyed numerous family pets. She served as a volunteer for 4-H, working with several committees including the club banner, and being a project leader for geology and entomology. Annette and Bob were the county photography project leaders for more than 30 years. Another of their favorite activities was showing Annette's 1969 Mustang at car shows. Annette was preceded in death by her parents, John W. and Evelyn Nelson, and her brother John T. Nelson. She is survived by her husband Bob, of the home; children, Rebecca (Scott) Butler, Pittsburg, and Bill (Lori) Harlan, Manhattan; granddaughter Bridget Harlan, Manhattan; and sister-in-law Linda Nelson, Washington. Lola E. Dugan, 84 of Riley, Kansas passed away Thursday, November 3, 2022 at the Chapman Valley Manor. She was born September 1, 1938 in Green, Kansas, the daughter of John and Clara (Baker) Yeager. Lola grew up around the Green, Kansas area and graduated from Green High School. She was united in marriage to Warren Dugan on March, 4, 1957 in Clay County, Kansas. They were married for 54 years before he passed away in 2012. Lola worked as a home child care provider, nurse's aide and was also a homemaker. She was well known for her huge gardens and homemade candies. She enjoyed all the produce from her garden and loved to share it with her family, friends and neighbors. She would spend countless hours making everything you could think of from fudge, divinity, turtles, caramel popcorn, cherry mash, etc. and the family always enjoyed getting all of these goodies in their Christmas packages. And her amazing angel food cake. Lola is survived by her son, Dale Dugan and wife Connie of Chapman, Kansas. Grandchildren: Cory Dugan of Chapman, Kansas; Jodie (Tyler) Ammons of Alta Vista, Kansas; David (Sonja) Billings of Longford, Kansas; Dale Billings of Junction City, Kansas. Raceile (Rae) Owen, 79 of Fort Morgan, Colorado passed away September 25, 2022, with her family by her side. Rae was born on December 1, 1942, in Fort Riley, Kansas to Raymond Lichtenhan and Bonnie Lesovsky. She grew up in Cuba, Kansas where she graduated high school and then went on to attend junior college in Fairbury, Nebraska. Rae moved to Denver, Colorado where she worked as a legal secretary and met her husband, Roger Owen. Roger and Rae got married on June 6, 1964 and celebrated 58 years of marriage this year. They were blessed with children RaLynn and Richard (Rick) and Rae's stepson Roger (Rod) Owen. In December 1976, Rae and Roger moved to Fort Morgan, Colorado where they bought Sailsbery Supply. For the next 47 years, Rae and Roger worked side by side to build their business by supporting their customers and their community. Rae, as part owner and Secretary/Treasurer of Sailsbery sometimes did the bookkeeping at night on the kitchen table to always be sure there was time in her schedule to pick up kids from school, haul the team to baseball games all summer long, endless runs to dance classes, sew costumes for dance recitals, and somehow always make dinner, too. Rae was involved with Colorado Pre-School and Head Start planning for many years. She was very committed to causes that supported children in the community whether in sports, plays, or other programs, she always wanted to see kids grow and succeed. In our family, Rae was the "organizer. " She organized and hosted countless family reunions and gatherings including many years of camping trips at Lake McConaughy where we have so many fond memories of family time together. She loved hosting and cooking for holidays and always made sure there was plenty of "fun" for all to share. In recent years, Rae enjoyed gardening and home renovation projects. She always was up for adding new plantings to their yard or tackling a home improvement project whether at her own home or lending a hand at her children's homes, too. She loved listening to music - as loud as possible - and having a dance party on the spur of the moment. Rae cherished her grandchildren, Jackson Owen 12, and Harper Owen 10. She loved spending time with them, attending their baseball games, karate tournaments, hockey games, Easter egg hunts, and hearing all about their school activities. Not a day went by that Rae wasn't thinking about what she could buy them if they needed something, do for them, things to teach them, and couldn't wait until the next time she would see them. Rae was preceded in death by her father Raymond Litchenhan; her mother, Bonnie Lesovsky and stepfather, Marion Lesovsky. She is survived by her husband, Roger; her daughter RaLynn, her son, Rick, and his wife Julie; her grandchildren Jackson and Harper; her stepson, Roger, and his wife Joleyn; her sister, Vicki Kolars and her husband Melvin; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and other loved family members. Obituary Gary Dean Jantz was born on April 3, 1939 to Dave Jantz and Mabel (Koehn) Jantz in Isabella, Oklahoma. He passed away on March 30, 2022 in Riley, Kansas Gary married Ellen Elizabeth Vails on November 17, 1962. They made their home in Oklahoma City until 1974 when they moved to the farm outside of Wellston, Oklahoma. Gary remained in Wellston until 2017 when failing health required him and Ellen to move to Manhattan, Kansas to be with their daughter, Vikki. Gary retired from the Oklahoma Natural Gas Company after 36 years of service. While living on their farm Gary enjoyed raising cattle and even a few pigs. After selling the farm and moving into Wellston, Gary was always finding projects to do around the house and loved taking care of his yard. He was also proud of his puzzle "art gallery" in his garage showing off the many puzzles that he had completed. Gary is survived by his loving wife, Ellen, of Riley, Kansas, his daughter, Vikki, granddaughter Cecilia, and grandson Samuel all of Manhattan, Kansas. He is also survived by his sister, Jean Jantz, of Yukon, Oklahoma, two brothers, Donald and Darrel Jantz both of Fairview, Oklahoma, brother-in-law J. D. Vails and wife Donna of Wellston, Oklahoma, sister-in-law Joyce Hallock of Newalla, Oklahoma, and sister-in-law Donna Jantz of Cushing, Oklahoma along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dave and Mabel Jantz, his father and mother-in-law John Henry and Fern Vails, a brother Robert "Mac" Jantz, an infant son, and an infant daughter. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2022, at 2:00 pm at the Wellston Christian Church with burial to follow at the Wellston Cemetery. Shawn Athon

Obituary of Shawn Athon Shawn Michael Athon, age 54, passed away Sunday, January 23, 2022 at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka. He was born on March 3, 1967 in Topeka, the son of Daniel Edgar and Rebecca Jean (Scheibe) Athon. He married Angela Chapman and they had two children together, Matthew and Morgan. They later divorced. On April 23, 2011, he married Joey (Davidson) Bishop. She survives of Manhattan. Shawn was a production assistant for the Goodyear Tire Company in Topeka and a member of United Steelworkers Local 307. Shawn enjoyed a variety of sports and was a true outdoorsman. In his spare time, you could find Shawn hunting, fishing, biking, and most recently he took his love of the outdoors underwater and became certified as an Open Water Diver while on a deep-sea fishing trip to Mexico. He was a devoted fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, Royals, and the KU Jayhawks, although he had near-perfect attendance with Joey cheering on the KSU Wildcats football team! He was the biggest fan when it came to his children's activities and athletics, never missing a game, tournament, or event. Shawn developed a passion for grilling and loved sharing the fruits of his labor with family and friends. He was a kind-hearted person who enjoyed spending time and engaging in conversation with others. Since meeting Joey, Shawn inherited a passion for travel, accompanying her on trips to Playa del Carmen (Mexico), Ireland, Canada, Hawaii (where he learned to surf), and a number of iconic destinations throughout the U. S. He is survived by his wife, Joey Athon of Manhattan; his mother, Rebecca Athon of Topeka; four children, Matthew Athon and fiance Courtney Isham of Shawnee, Morgan Waterman and husband Eric of Topeka, Madison Bishop of Manhattan, and McKenzi Bishop of Manhattan; one brother, Craig Athon of Topeka; one sister, Lisa Athon of Brentwood, Tennessee, and three grandchildren, Kaelynn, Kylie and Atticus. He was preceded in death by his father, Daniel Athon. The family will receive visitors beginning at 10AM on Friday, February 4th at Northland Christian Church, 3102 NW Topeka Blvd. , Topeka, KS with a funeral service immediately following at 11AM. Obituary of Mike Blevins Michael J. Blevins, passed away Thursday, January 20, 2022. He was born on February 16, 1961 and grew up on the Blevins dairy farm in Riley County, where he developed a lifelong love of caring for livestock, milking cows, and riding horses. At an early age, Mike had an inquisitive mind. Mike was constantly building, creating, and fixing. It was the foundation for a lifelong career in automotive mechanics and on-the-road trucking. Mike a kind and gentle soul. He was always patient, caring, and respectful. Mike knew how to make every person feel important. Mike married the love of his life, Debbie Stockwell, in 1984. Mike and Debbie and their children Chris, Megan and Tera moved to the Easton community in 1989 and established a homestead that welcomed any friend or animal who came down the lane. Mike was a proud family man who valued honesty and integrity. He held himself to a high standard and wouldn't hesitate to give you the shirt off his back. He readily lent a hand, his tools, money, and his heart to whoever needed it and went out of his way to see that everyone in his life was cared for. In 2017, Mike became an owner-operator of his own trucking company. He loved the trucking business for the scenery, the solitude, but most of all for the flexibility it gave him to prioritize his family. Mike is survived by his loving wife Debbie; daughters Megan Blevins (Brad Seever) and Tera Blevins (Adela Graf); Father Claude "Tige" Blevins (Marilyn); mother Marcile Chapman, sisters Mary "Missy" Karl (Scott) and Eva Peterson; step brother Gregory Dale, and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Mike is predeceased by his son Christopher Blevins, brother Claude "Petey" Blevins, and step-brother Doug Dale. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p. m.
