Rebecca Paris

Rebecca Paris

Age - 51

November 22, 2023

Paris, Rebecca "Inja" Ann Arbor, MI Age 51, passed away on Monday, November 20, 2023, of complications related to a brain aneurysm suffered in 2010, at home with her loving family by her side. Born on February 11, 1972, in Seoul, Korea, she was adopted as an infant by her parents, John and Elinor (Young) Paris, while the family was stationed in Korea. Abandoned as a baby at an orphanage, she had been born with a major heart defect considered terminal by doctors. Despite the pessimistic diagnosis, the family returned with her to the United States, where she responded beautifully to open heart surgery and grew strong. She enjoyed a happy childhood with many friends. As a teenager, Inja channeled her artistic abilities through dancing, singing, modeling, and scouting. She graduated from Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School in Ballston Lake, New York in 1992. In her twenties, she thrived as a preschool teacher, moving to Colorado to marry her high school sweetheart and realizing her dream of being a mother. She gave birth to two boys and a girl (finally) and thoroughly enjoyed her days with them. Paints, music, messy crafts and elaborate birthday parties were the norm. She poured her love into her children who filled her with joy. But she also enjoyed relaxing with her friends, owned at least 30 bikinis and 25 little black dresses, and knew how to enjoy a tasty margarita. In 2010, when her children were still small, Inja suffered a catastrophic brain aneurysm and for the second time in her life doctors reported that she would not survive, and, again, she defied all odds: waking, walking, talking, relearning the basic tasks. Her life circumstances were forever altered, however, and she began a new life with her sister in Michigan. The Kopacz family had the privilege of folding her into their large and boisterous family and loving her in their home from 2013 until her death. She became part of the family, and her nieces became more like her sisters. Inja loved telling stories about her children and singing about margaritas (some things never change). She loved talking to people; and her hilarious stories kept everyone laughing and filled us with joy. Her life was gentle and filled with warm cups of tea, playing with her grand nephew and nieces, spending time with her friends at Just Us Club, and journaling on her iPad. She had the gift of making people feel welcome and special - she enjoyed talking with everyone, even strangers - who were just friends she hadn't met yet. She prayed for her children daily and came to love Jesus in the Eucharist. Her life was a gift to all who knew her. We will forever be changed. Inja is survived by her father John (Janis) Paris of Boynton Beach, Florida; three children: Connor, Jack, and Nona Stephenson of Loveland, Colorado; three sisters: Amy (Joseph) Kopacz of Ann Arbor, Michigan; Cynthia (Andrew) Laas of Silver Spring, Maryland, and Kathleen Paris of Costa Rica; nieces and nephews: Emily (Kevin) Regan, Sarah (Ryan) Wensley, Jonathan, Rachel, Charlotte, Lydia, and Elinor Kopacz, and Bridget and Jacob Laas; great nieces and nephews, Michael, Lucy, and Jack Wensley, and Ava Regan. She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Elinor. Visitation will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church on Sunday, November 26th from 5-8pm with a Rosary at 6:30. The funeral mass will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church on Monday, November 27th at 11am, with an hour of visitation before. Memorial contributions may be made to Just Us Club, a non-profit organization in Ann Arbor, Michigan which provides programming and respite care for special-needs adults. Harold "Hal" Klenk, an example of Service to his fellow man. Born in 1944 (April 16th) during WW II, Hal was raised in Roseville, Michigan, a few miles up from Detroit. Now it's just another suburb but in the 1950's it had its own airport; mostly farmland it was a great place to grow up in the 1950's. Like any other boy of the time, Hal loved sports. Bill, his brother, and Hal were in all the competitive sports together and Bill was finally the athletic director at Alma College in Michigan, where the sports facilities are named after him. Hal loved the Tigers, Pistons, Lions and the Red Wings. Hal loved good food, good friends and His Saviour Jesus Christ. Hal loved us, His Fellow man. Hal was a dynamic teacher of the Bible, making it practical, doable, and easy to understand. His theme verse was John 10:10 where it was stated that men and women are to 'live life to its fullest in every category, in abundance' and that was a promise from Christ. Hal could teach people how to be free in life. Hal was both an Air Force and Army Veteran. He excelled in his profession as a medical technician. He was able to perform even emergency surgeries that really a qualified physician should do. Being resourceful, Hal once made use of the clinics Autoclaves, used to hi heat and hi pressure sterilize instruments, to cook the Thanksgiving turkeys . . they were hot, very tasty and sterilized to boot! After the military, Hal made bible classes and studies available to everyone in his home. Hal made many, many friends far and wide, through his military and church experiences, as far as India and as close as Ypsilanti. Hal may have lost some of his shine in later years, but he had a heart of GOLD and we all saw that. Sherry Vandermeer

Sherry Vandermeer

Age - 73

November 21, 2023

Sherry Ann Vandermeer, 73, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 18, 2023 with her family lovingly by her side. She was born in Paintsville, Kentucky, on Saturday, June 3, 1950, and lived most of her life in Michigan, in Ypsilanti and later in Midland. Sherry was a loving wife and mother of three, and a devoted Christian who would often put the needs of her children and husband before her own. She worked tirelessly to give her sons the things that she never had growing up. Sherry attended Northwestern University, and she cared deeply about her childrens' education. She would help them study or drive them to the library for a class project without hesitation. She worked as merchandising representative for Nabisco and in retail for a number of years in order to afford Christian school for her three boys. Sherry's faith in God was her compass in life and it defined her character. Growing up, she had a difficult and often painful childhood, and lived through experiences that no one should ever have to endure. Yet, her faith never diminished in these experiences, and instead grew stronger. She looked forward to church every Sunday and could be heard singing hymns loudly in the pew with her fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, even on days when she struggled to get out of bed in the morning. Sherry's love for children and her passion for helping those in need are what drove her to work as a volunteer for Kids Hope USA, where she mentored a number of at-risk youth at Eastlawn Elementary over the years. She would bring her students new books that they read together during recess, and she made sure that they had jackets and warm clothing for the winter. Sherry was a writer of poetry and short stories, and an incredible homemaker who would drop everything to invite over a friend for a hot meal and company. She had an eye for interior design and with her green thumb, she built a beautiful garden with every season that passed. Tragically, Sherry fought a long and hard battle with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, also known as COPD, for fifteen years before leaving us to be with the Lord. She will be joining her parents Paul and Billie Wallen in heaven. She is survived by her husband, Thomas; her three sons, Zachary (Rachel), Joshua (Kimberly), and Peter (Laura); three grandchildren; as well as her sister, Victoria Begdorian. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at First Free Will Baptist Church in Ypsilanti, MI. Visitation begins at noon, and a service will follow at 1 pm. Memorial contributions may be made in Sherry's name to Operation Blessing at ob. org. May she rest in peace.Show more
