Norman Harold Arndt, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, went to be with his Lord and Savior in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on October 5, 2023. Born on March 3, 1933, in Morley, Michigan, to Carl and Doris Arndt, Norman led a life marked by service, faith, and love for his family. Norman was predeceased by his parents, Carl and Doris Arndt, his brother Donald Arndt, and sister-in-law Pat Arndt. He is survived by his loving wife, Marie Arndt, and their three sons, David (Tammy), Edward (Janet), and Thomas (Sharon). He was a cherished grandfather to Olivia, Timothy (Alexandra), Cassia, and Rinnah, and a great-grandfather to MaryKate, Oliver, Sunny, and Mira. Norman's educational journey led him to Hope College, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in chemistry. His academics was matched by his dedication to service, a trait that was evident throughout his life. Norman served his country in the Korean Conflict as a Staff Sergeant in the Air Force, a role that instilled in him a deep sense of duty and honor. Upon returning from service, Norman continued to give back to his community. He was a mentor for Junior Achievement for many years, where he helped shape the minds of future leaders. A devout Christian, he was an active member of Gideons International and was involved in jail and prison ministry. He also served as a Sunday school teacher, guiding young minds on their spiritual journey. Norman was a man of many interests, always engaged in a project or lending a helping hand. He was a steady, faithful presence, quietly doing good for others. He was an active runner for many years, participating in riverbank runs and inspiring those around him with his dedication to fitness and health. Above all, Norman was a loving individual. His kindness and generosity were felt by all who knew him. He had a unique ability to make people feel valued and loved, and his presence will be deeply missed. Norman Harold Arndt's life was a testament to his commitment to service, his devotion to his faith, and his love for his family. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those he touched, and his memory. There will be a funeral service for Norman on Friday, October 13, 2023, at 11:00 a. m. with an hour visitation prior at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Grand Rapids. The family is inviting friends and family to a luncheon for additional visitation following the funeral service. The family is asking in lieu of flowers, for donations in Norman's name can be made either Our Savior Lutheran Church (2900 Burton St SE Grand Rapids), or Gideon's International (PO Box 97251 Washington, DC 20090-7251).

Lee Durham passed away unexpectedly in his home after a brief illness. Those who knew Lee, knew a wonderful, generous, kind, loving, sweet, and loyal man. Lee was born on January 18, 1961, in Dearborn to Norman and Maria Durham. He graduated from Annapolis High School in 1979 and attended Ferris State University. Lee was a whiz at computers and was a Senior Computer Systems Engineer for Corewell Health. He was fiercely protective of his family, supported his children's dreams, and made sure everyone in his life knew how much he loved and valued them. Lee was an avid sports fan, dedicated to his Lions, Red Wings, and the Tigers. His favorite past time was golfing and enjoying good company of people he loved. He had a great love of animals and considered their 3 family dogs his babies and loved spoiling them. Lee had an infectious laugh and would always tell you he loved you when he said goodbye. He was preceded in death by his father, Norman Durham, and sister-in-law, Kim Durham. Lee is survived by his loving wife, Jennifer; sons, James, Lee Jr. ; daughters, Nicole, Rachel (Diana Ramirez); six grandchildren, Hayden, Aaron, Easton, Scott, Cole, Sophia; brother, Terry Durham; sister, Kelly Durham (Ken Johnson); niece, Casey Durham; nephews, Jeremy and Tyler Durham, Evan, Ryan, and Matthew Bellas; adoring sister-in-law, Rebekah Bellas; brother-in-law, Richard Bellas; and many lifelong friends. The family is planning a memorial golf outing in the spring, as Lee wanted to bring family and friends together to have fun and share memories.Show more

With deep love and confident assurance, we announce the passing of Robert J. Maring to his new home in Heaven. He was born on June 22, 1926, in Muskegon, MI, to Albert and Susan Maring. He is missed by his children, Hal (Joyce) Maring, Tami (Ed) DeJong and Carla (Mark) Hooyer; and his grandchildren Jamin (Amy) DeJong, Luke (Colleen) Maring, Marita (Kevin) Damghani, Miriam Maring (Lal) Kottu, Andra (Joel) Slabach, Benham (Renee) DeJong, and Kira Hooyer; and 12 great-grandchildren. He is survived by his sister, Lois Bishop and brother-in-law Russ (Sue) Sholten and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by Marilyn, his wife of 54 years, grandson Cameron Hooyer, and six siblings. Bob graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Electrical Engineering and embarked on a distinguished career as an aerospace engineer. His life was characterized by his service to others: he served in the Army in WWII; served his church in various capacities; sat on Christian school boards; and fixed almost anything broken for his neighbors, friends, and family. We will miss his love of adventure in boating, fishing, skydiving, and games of all kinds. His quiet competitiveness was always engagingly present in bowling, billiards, cards, and horseshoes. Bob was a devoted family man. He cherished the time spent playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He imparted wisdom to his children, and created loving memories that will be treasured always. Bob's deep faith was the cornerstone of his life. A student of the Bible, he lived his beliefs through his actions, showing kindness, compassion, and love to those he encountered. His relationship with the Lord was a source of strength and comfort throughout his life and during his final days. His example of loving service, integrity in all things, and logical reasoning will be a guide and inspiration to those he left behind. A service of celebration will be held Thursday, December 7th at Thornapple Covenant Church, 6595 Cascade Rd. , Grand Rapids, MI 49546. Visitation will begin at 1 pm followed by the Memorial Service at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory can be given to Holland Home Residence Assistance Fund.Show more

Frederick Roy Clemens Jr. , known as Fritz in his younger days, passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Peggy Clemens; and older sister, Ann Clemens Overton. Fred is survived by his wife, Sandra Elgland Clemens; younger sister, Susan (Bob) Palmer; nieces, Paige Overton, Allison Palmer Johnson; nephews, Drew Overton, Bob Palmer IV; and brother-in-law, Taylor Overton. He graduated Ottawa Hills High School in 1958 and went on to attend Grand Rapids Junior College and Florida Southern College in Lakeland, FL earning his bachelor's degree. Fred was a proud veteran of the United States Navy. He served his country from 1963-1966, mostly on sea duty aboard USS Pickaway, an attack transport that carried troops to various locations in the Pacific and to landing sites in Vietnam. As Lt. Junior Grade, Fred oversaw small groups of landing craft that ferried troops and cargo between the ship and shore. After returning to civilian life, Fred graduated from Michigan State University with his master's degree and went on to serve Forest Hills Public schools as a middle school teacher. During this time, he met his wife, Sandra, also a teacher within the school system. Fred had a lifelong interest in aviation and was a longtime member of a local flying club. He enjoyed living on the Thornapple River, spending time at their lake cottage near Interlochen, and occasionally singing some Elvis tunes. Fred was a longtime resident of Grand Rapids having lots of friends who will miss him dearly. Memorial Contributions can be made to a charity of choice in Fred's honor.Show more

John Kemble Edwards Jr, age 79, of Grand Rapids, Michigan passed away on Monday, November 27. John grew up on the West Side of Grand Rapids and was a proud graduate of Union High School. He credits his lifelong career in printing with the Trade and Industry classes offered there. You will never find a man more devoted to his family and his career. Sports came in at number three. John spent many, many years coaching his children and their friends on different sports teams in Rockford where he lived for over 50 years. He loved his house on Meyers Lake where his family and friends were always welcome. Many memories were made there, and we will always be grateful for them. John is predeceased by his parents, Jack and Alice Edwards, brother, Eddie, stepmother, Betsy, and stepsisters Mary and Sandy. He is survived by his wife, Bridget, and children Angela (Steve Jebb), Alan (Heather), and Todd. Stepchildren Lindsay Sichta (Brian Highstreet) and Ryan Sichta. Stepbrother, Robert Bundy and stepsister, Valerie Bundy. Grandchildren: Steve, Travis, Brittany, Joe, RJ, Thomas, Abby, Cameron, and Marielle. Great Grandchildren: Brooklyn, Addysin, Karel, Killian, and Olivia. Also surviving are two very special cousins: Curt (Claire) Orsinger and Mark Orsinger. We will deeply miss our Husband, Father, and Grandfather. We always, knew he loved us.
