Norma Jean Jones "Jonesie", also known as "Nonny" to her family, went to heaven on September 8, 2023, at her home. She was born March 9, 1926 in Cairo to Otto and Dessie (Brown) Siegfried. "Jonesie" was a retired Licensed Practical Nurse at St. Rita's Medical Center, retired in 1982 after 32 years of service. She was a member of Lima Baptist Temple where she helped with toddlers and also made bandages for missions with the Ladies Missionary Fellowship. Norma was a past member of the Cairo Community Club. She is survived by her daughters Carolyn Jones of Cairo, Beverly Kirk of Lima and Rebecca (Jim) Magrum-Dean. Grandmother to Tracy L. Dyer, Angela (Dennis) Mercer, Jonathan (Sara) Bassett, and Jeremie Magrum (Sunny). Great Grandmother of Nicole Dyer, Matthew Hobbs (Aazhine'), Logan Magrum (Ashlin), Madison Bassett (finance' Zach Basinger), Lauren Bassett, Sawyer Magrum, Gage Butler and Carter Butler. Great Great Grandmother of Lavender Jean Hobbs. Norma was preceded in death by her parents, aunt and uncle Fae and Ralph Williams, 3 son-in-laws: Steve Magrum, Gene Wheeler and Everett Kirk. A sister, Irene (Ron) Wright, half-brother, 4 half-sisters, several stepsiblings and a cousin June (Bill) Davisson. She is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 from 2-6 pm at Hartman Sons Funeral Home in Columbus Grove, Ohio. Additional visitation will be on Thursday, September 14, 2023 from 10-11 am at the Cairo Christian Church with funeral services to follow at 11 am. Pastor Gary Hohman and Pastor Max McKanna to officiate. Burial will be in the Cairo Eastside Cemetery following the service. Ruth Ellen "Ruthie" Hammer COLUMBUS GROVE - Ruth Ellen "Ruthie" Hammer of Columbus Grove passed peacefully on Saturday, November 25th at The Meadows of Ottawa. She was born Ruth Ellen Beck on June 11, 1935 to Herbert and Mary Beck. She attended Lakeview High School and on October 3, 1955, she married Charles "Tack" Hammer who passed away March 19, 2015. Ruth is also preceded in death by 11 siblings and survived by 2 siblings Donald (Angie) Beck and Jim (Mary Margaret) Beck. Ruth worked at Triplett Company for two years and spent the rest of her career as a homemaker and farmer's wife. Ruth and Charles farmed in Allen County until 2010. They raised a daughter and three sons who are all surviving. Wallace (Cynthia) Hammer, Tobi Ann (Ronald) Meyer, Tony (Missy Craig) Hammer, and Trent (Jennifer) Hammer. She loved watching her grandchildren and was a big part of their lives growing up: Amber (Larry Stanley) Stratton, Jennifer (Elliott) Lewis, Jackie (Dale Schumaker) Hammer, Mike (Kym Johnson) Hammer, Ryan (Jessica) Meyer, Cory (Molly) Meyer, Trevor (Molly) Meyer, Gabe (Hannah) Meyer, Jared (Jadyn) Meyer, Lydia (Kyle) Wilkins, Gillian (Derrick Lowe) Hammer, Cole (Ainsley Miller) Hammer, Abby Hammer, Mason Hammer, and Rachel (Alex Kohler) Hammer. Ruth also enjoyed her 24 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Throughout her life she was active in the Cairo United Methodist Church, Cairo and later attended Rockport Community Bible Church, Rockport. Ruth was a member of the Farm Bureau. She loved shopping, traveling, and especially camping with the Myers gang. During her spare time, she enjoyed numerous types of jigsaw puzzles, word search, and Sudoku. She was a huge fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes. Ruth was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who dearly loved her family. She was a selfless caring woman with a heart of gold. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. The arrangements are incomplete at this time. Nancy Lou (Williams) Jones, 87, died October 22, 2023 at The Meadows of Ottawa. She was born March 9, 1936 in Lima, Ohio to Harley and Lena (Cooper) Williams. They both preceded her in death. On December 23, 1955, she married Nolan Morris Jones Jr. of Columbus Grove. She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Jones of Seminole, FL; one sister, Joan (Orton) Gilpin of Ft. Wayne, IN, as well as 2 sisters in law, JoAnn (Milo) George of Pandora and Jean Oliver of Lima. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Nancy was preceded in death by her husband Nolan; her son, David Jones; two sisters, Martha (Vernon) Nungester and Dorothy (Richard) Eubank; 5 brothers-n-law, Vernon Nungester, Richard Eubank, Orton Gilpin, Jon Jones and Paul Oliver; and one sister in law, Marilyn Jones. Nancy was a graduate of Lima South High School, Class of 1954. She then worked for various companies including the United States Army while Nolan was serving in Akron and California. Nancy taught piano lessons at home and worked at the Columbus Grove Public Library for many years. When Nolan retired from Ford Motor Company in 1990, the couple spent time traveling the world making memories with their friends, especially Ron and Patsy Shafer. Nancy's favorite part of every Ohio State football game was watching the "incomparable" Script Ohio. After the death of their son, Nancy and Nolan started a Putnam County chapter of The Compassionate Friends. They volunteered at the state and national level, helping other bereaved parents work through their grief. Nancy also personally reached out to hundreds of parents who lost children to offer support. Nancy's faith was everything to her. She was a member of the Columbus Grove Christian Church for over 60 years. She taught 1st and 2nd grade Sunday School for over 20 years with Janet McKanna, sang in the choir, served as a deaconess and up until very recently took soup and bread to the sick members of the congregation. Nancy also was a lifetime member of the Mother's Club "Blocks to Books. " Until last year, Nancy volunteered with Putnam County Hospice, visiting people in nursing homes and providing comfort as they neared the end of their lives. Nancy was a member of the Eastern Star and directed the Rainbow Girls' choir to state championships in the early 1960's. She was a member of the first choral combo to sing live in the very first broadcast on WLIO TV while still in high school. Nancy stayed close to and cherished time with her high school classmates, meeting each month for lunch with them whenever she could. Dateline: Columbus Grove, Ohio Leroy A. Maag, age 86 years, passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2023, at his home near Columbus Grove. Leroy was born on November 16, 1936, to Bernard and Philomena (Feltman) Maag. On November 21, 1959, he married Karen Raymond who died on May 6, 2020. Leroy is survived by three sons Mark (Linda) Maag, Tim (Mary Jo) Maag and Chris (Barb) Maag; and daughter-in-law Tami (Nathan) Tucker; fourteen grandchildren, Katelyn, Brandon, Travis, Bethany, Tucker, Levi, Jordan, Jesse, Isaac, Jacob, Sam, Evelyn, Carson, Elaina; six great grandchildren, Khloe, Cayden, Clark, Jack, Ella Rose, Harlow Grace, and one on the way. Also surviving is sister-in-law Rita Maag. In addition to his wife Karen, Leroy was preceded in death by his son, Andrew; brothers Harold Maag, Omar (Viola) Maag, Carl (Rita) Maag, Dan (Jennie) Maag, Urban (Rosie) Maag, Eugene (Shirley) Maag, Dennis Maag, and James Maag; and sisters Evelyn (Harold) Wannemacher, Catherine (Harold) Deters, Mildred (Wilbur) Roof, and Marcia (James) Kuhlman. Leroy was a graduate of Columbus Grove High School. He enjoyed watching the Tigers and Ohio State Buckeyes. He enjoyed reading and putting puzzles together in his free time. He was a hard-working man whose favorite "job" was farming and being on the land. Also, Leroy retired from Phillips ECG after 25-years of service. He loved his wife and supported her in every venture she undertook. Leroy loved his family, especially the little ones, and enjoyed spending as much time with them all as possible. He was a lifelong member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Columbus Grove. Services will begin a 1:00 pm on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Father David Ritchie will officiate, with burial to follow in St. Anthony's Cemetery. Friends may call prior to the services from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Dateline: Columbus Grove, Ohio William Parsons Jr. , age 99, passed away on September 15, 2023, at The Springs in Lima, Ohio. Bill was born on May 29, 1924, in Rimer, Ohio, to William E. and Bertha (Anderson) Parsons. On January 12, 1946, he married Helen Henderson who preceded him in death. Bill is survived by his children Carol Juneau of Houston, TX, Deb Parsons of Alpharetta, GA, Julie (Jim) Martz of Columbus Grove, OH, Tom Parsons of Anchorage, AK, Teressa (Jerry) Langmeyer of Lima, OH, and John (Linda) Parsons of Grove City, OH. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild and by sister Donna Peters of Tulsa, OK. Bill was preceded in death by his daughter Sue Birkemeyer, one brother Virgil Parsons, and sisters Elizabeth Jones and Pauline Clymer. Bill graduated from Vaughnsville High School, class of 1942, and then served as a medic in the Army. After discharge he worked at Meadow Gold Dairy until 1950. He then went to Sylvania in Ottawa and stayed there until his retirement in 1981. Bill was a member of St. Johns Community Church in Columbus Grove, and was a life member of American Legion Post #516. Bill volunteered at Memorial Hospital for many years. He loved to fish and also loved to golf which he did until age 92. He was a great high school sports fan, especially basketball, and a lifelong Cleveland Indians/Guardians fan. He could tell a great story, and truly enjoyed many local coffee groups around Grove. Friends may call at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove, where visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, from 2:00pm to 7:00pm and from 10:00am to 11:00am on Wednesday, September 20, 2023.
