September 12, 2023
Hallstead, PA
"Noreen Simms, known to friends as "Babe," passed away on September 11, 2023. She was 92 years old. Babe's love of traveling, athletics and various social activities led her into many people's lives. She was famously known in her church and community, always willing to lend a helping hand, this mixed with her razor sharp sense of humor made her easy to love. Babe was born May 5th, 1931 in Great Bend, Pennsylvania. Her love of traveling was partially facilitated by her work. Her job with the Pennsylvania Welcome Center took her all over the country, meeting all sorts of interesting people along the way. This sparked a life-long interest with maps and plotting out destinations. Her love of athletics was wide and varied. As a child playing baseball and basketball, following up in adulthood with tennis, bowling and golf. Tennis being her absolute favorite to both watch and play. She would eventually become a loyal Philles fan, never missing a game on the radio. Her love of various social activities supersedes them all. Whether it be at church, get together with friends and family or just a small fun filled night of conversation over manhattans. Her generosity and humor guided us along. She is survived by her children, Barbara (Ronnie) Fisher, Stephen (Lis) Furkay, Laurie (Warren) Weeks, Judi (John) Salinkas; grandchildren, Erik Richardson, Ryan (Aubrey) Fisher, Corey Richardson, Scott Furkay, Christopher Weeks, John (Vikki) Salinkas, and Erin (Colten) Keck; great grandchildren, Aliana, Nolan, Wren, J. J. , Kane, and Jakob; a special sister, Joan Fancher; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members, including a special cousin, Michael Peck. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at a special time of 12:45 p. m. , Friday, September 15, 2023, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, with Father Kevin Miller. Inurnment will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations to Meadow View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Activities Department, 225 Park Street, Montrose, PA 18801. Babe always took her Irish heritage seriously. This was displayed right down to her Claddagh ring she had around her finger at all times. She was lucky enough to visit Ireland three times in her life, collecting interesting and hilarious stories she loved to share. So let this end with an Irish Blessing. "May the sun shine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand. ""
