Mel Kenwood

Age - 88

December 2, 2023

Our family is again saddened by the loss of Melvin Kenwood, 88, of Henderson, NV, on Thursday November 30, 2023. He was the loving husband of the late Priscilla Kenwood who passed away November 22, 2023. He was born on November 6, 1935 in Brownsville New York to Ida Skolnick and Israel Kenwood. He is predeceased by his older brother Lenny Kenwood and younger brother Albert Skolnick. He is survived by his sister Dolly Cetron and brother Barry Skolnick. He is also survived by sons Bruce Kenwood (Audrey) and Marc Kenwood (Michelle). He has eleven grandchildren (Renee, Isabella, Ethan, Miya, Aine, Leela, Seneca, Karmen, Alexis, Eden, Corbin) and many nieces, nephews and friends. Mel was always proud to have been born in Brooklyn. He went to Thomas Jefferson High School and was in the same class as Steve Lawrence. He instilled the love of Judaism into his Vegas grandchildren (Renee, Isabella, Ethan, Miya) They all went to Hebrew School and 3 of them attended Camp Nageela West in the summer. They would all gather at Mel and Priscilla's home every Friday night for the lighting of the candles and Shabbat dinner. Jewish Holidays had Mel leading the prayers and we all took part. He was very happy when his grandson Ethan recited the 4 questions. Mel was known as the Mitzvah Man at the Chabad of Henderson. He taught a mitzvah class every Thursday first in person and then on Zoom. His students enjoyed his class in the teaching of the 613 mitzvahs. He made the class interesting by adding in jokes throughout his lessons. He always encouraged people that no mitzvah was too small and even doing one mitzvah was important. Mel and Priscilla moved to Nevada from Florida upon the birth of their granddaughter Renee Jordan. She happened to arrive on his birthday 71 years apart. Because they were 71 years apart, Mel had his second Bar Mitzvah on the same day as his granddaughter Renee had her Bat Mitzvah. Mel and Priscilla took many trips around the world but the best ones were those taken with Marc, Michelle and the grandchildren. Fortunately Marc has great videos to document all the adventures like tubing at Great Wolf Lodge and visiting Bruce and his family in Utah. His sparkling eyes, big smile, thumbs up, stories of his childhood and Jewish stories will be missed by all. Mel was a terrific dad, father in law and grandfather. He loved everyone and they, in turn, loved him. Services for Mel will be held at King David Memorial Chapel and Cemetery, 2697 E. Eldorado Lane, Las Vegas, NV. at 1:00 PM on December 3, 2023. The family requests that donations in Mel's memory be made to Camp Nageela West or Chabad of Henderson in lieu of flowers.Show more
