Age - 50
May 9, 2023
Rutherfordton, NC
Nicole Kolet Otwell was born June 13, 1972 in Riverside, California, and passed away in her sleep unexpectedly on May 6, 2023. Nicole carried her passion for music with her throughout life. Her taste in music was quite eclectic. She had the opportunity to work for a record label in her younger years, and when she moved to Western North Carolina, she continued her career in the music industry at a local record retailer. Nicole is remembered for her kindness and generosity, always willing to take on the struggles of others with an open heart. She was known for welcoming strangers and creating an environment of acceptance and understanding for anyone who needed a safe place without fear of judgment. Her passion for the Pittsburgh Steelers, collecting music and sports memorabilia and treasuring anything that anyone chose to give her out of the kindness of their heart remains an example of her commitment to creating a better world. Nicole was preceded in death by her Dad, Gary Faulkner; her Nan, Charlene Anderson; her best friend, Jeremy "Bigga" Rowe; her "Untle" Dennis Otwell; and her two fur babies, Najeh and Wicca. Nicole is survived by her mother, Cinda Faulkner; her biological father, Wayne Otwell; her wife, Angie Hallman; her baby brother, Shey "Fatty" Faulkner; her Bestie, Brittany Faulkner; her fur baby, Cross; and countless chosen family members and friends including Rachel and Jeff of Oregon. Nicole had a tendency to give everyone in her life a nickname. Her nephews and nieces were no exception! Her love for her nephews, Bentley "Butt Butt" and Hudson "Petta Parkaaa," and nieces Kensington "KK" and Aubree "Jakub" was something that you had to witness to understand. No compilation of words could ever paint a picture to represent her adoration for them. A private Celebration of Life Ceremony for Nicole will be held at a later date for those closest to her. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to GiGi's Playhouse in Charlotte, North Carolina in Nicole's honor. Their Vision: To see a world where individuals with Down Syndrome are accepted and embraced in their families, schools and communities. "I fight with love and I laugh with rage. . . you gotta live light enough to see the humor, and long enough to see some change. . .
