Neil Eric SwedineAge 67 of Bancroft passed away Monday, September 4, 2023 at The University of Michigan Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Saturday, September 9, 2023 at Nelson-House Funeral Home with Jeff Bateman officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 12pm until the time of service. Neil was born March 10, 1956 in Owosso, to Carl and Shirley (Humphrey) Swedine. He graduated from Owosso High School, class of 1975 and attended Shiawassee Harvest Church in Corunna. Neil had a passion for anything with a motor and especially loved personalizing his motorcycles, cars and snowmobiles. He retired from General Motors with over 30 years of service. Neil is survived by his children Erica Willliams (Joe) and Ryan (Mary) Swedine; grandsons Donavin and Evan Williams, Elijah Swedine and Lucas Bishop (Sabrina-mother); siblings Tim (Sue) Swedine, Kevin (Marion) Swedine, Melody Livingston, Nancy (Jeff) Bateman; nieces, nephews and other loving family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, long time partner Denise Lake, grandson Gunner Swedine, nephew T. J. Livingston and niece Carlene Prater. Joseph "Joe" Wayne ThomasHusband, Father, Brother, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, and Friend. Age 89 of Owosso passed away Thursday, December 7, 2023. A memorial service will be held at 11am Saturday, January 6, 2024 at Nelson-House Funeral Home. The family will be receiving friends on Saturday from 10am until the time of service. Joseph was born September 28, 1934 in Lexington, the son of Burtlee and Lucy (Welch) Thomas. He graduated from Monroe High School and attended Owosso Bible College and LCC. Joseph was kind and selfless, He always put others needs before him and truly was a proud servant to the community. In Joe's earlier years he enjoyed golfing and bowling. He looked forward to teaching first aid with The Red Cross, teaching Sunday School, and being an active member on the Administration Board for The Owosso Wesleyan Church. Both Joe and Donna were foster parents for several years and were involved at State and Federal level. He was a proud father and grandfather his children and grandchildren were the focus of his life. He married the love of his life Donna Chafin in Owosso on July 17, 1981. Joseph worked in Law Enforcement, Road Patrol with Owosso, Byron Chief of Police, in-house security with Johnson Controls, Owned Thomas Transportation, and in his later years worked with Indian Trails. Joseph is survived by his wife of 42 years Donna Thomas; Children, Robert Thomas, Denise Meyer (John Meyer), and Mark Strong; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; Sister, Bertha Snodgrass; many nieces and nephews and other loving family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Burtlee and Lucy Thomas, 6 Brothers, and 1 Sister. Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice House of Shiawassee County . Pearl Whelpley, of New LothropDied on November 29, 2023 at the Meadows of Owosso, at the age of 97. Pearl was born to Joseph Polak and Anna (Lichota) on May 10, 1926 in Muskegon Michigan. She graduated from Muskegon high school in 1944 and attended Muskegon junior college while working in the office at sealed power corporation. Following her time at Muskegon College, she married Thomas A. Whelpley on April 30, 1948. Together they had three children while living in Muskegon. Several years after her husband became a licensed funeral Director, they bought the O'Hare Funeral Home in New Lothrop, Michigan and moved there. Pearl helped her husband with the business which was renamed Whelpley Funeral Home, she also served as a local news correspondent for the Argus-Press for eight years. She worked many years as a church secretary for the new Lothrop and Juddville United Methodist Church's and 18 years for the Montrose United Methodist Church. Pearl was also the secretary of the church administrative Council for many years and was an active member of the United Methodist women and Lioness club. Pearl is survived by her daughter Susan (William) Vos of Salinas, CA. , and her son, Patrick (Connie) Whelpley of Lake, Mi: Grandchildren, Crystal, Amber, Amy and Nathan of CA, Elizabeth of TN, Christine of Corunna: great grandchildren, Christian, Joshua, Trevor, Hunter, Skyblue, Violet Rose, Sunnyblue, Kendall, Molly, Darling and Izadora of CA, Camryn and Brooks of Mi: Great Great grandchildren Conner and Jhet of Hi: also Sister, Josephine DeClaire of Lacey WA who turned 100 years young this year. She was proceeded in death by her husband, Thomas, her parents, and sisters; Mary Lasser and Kathryn Polak; and her son, Jon Whelpley. A memorial service will take place on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at 11 AM, at New Lothrop United Methodist Church, in New Lothrop. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM until the time of service. Burial of ashes will take place on Thursday, December 7, 2023, at Elmwood Cemetery at 11 AM. Memorial donations may be made to the new Lothrop, United Methodist Church, in honor of Pearl.Show more

Dennis Duane JenkinsAge 80 of Corunna was received into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, September 24, 2023 at MemorialHealthcare in Owosso. Denny was born October 4, 1942 in Durand Michigan, to Althea (Hammond) Jenkins and adoptive fatherLyle Jenkins. Denny was recently embraced by his newly discovered family who never stopped searchingfor him - the Black Family. He married Margaret Furister in Owosso on July 22, 1963. He graduated from Corunna High School, class of 1960, and served in the U. S. Army. At 28-1/2 years ofservice in Quality Control, he retired from General Motors. He enjoyed the 17 years he and Margo livedin Florida but his heart always stayed with the University of Michigan, Detroit Tigers, and his family. Denny enjoyed studying the Bible, talking about his faith and playing softball. Denny is quoted as saying"the ultimate success in my life is having Jesus as my Lord, and Margo as my wife". He was an activemember at the First Church of the Nazarene. Denny is survived by his most beloved wife of 60 years, Margo (Furister) Jenkins; three children, Lisa(Donnie Ray) Maddox, Kimberly (Jeffrey) Confer, and Chris Jenkins; his sister, Marilyn Lagrange; manygrandchildren, and uncle William Black, nieces and nephews, 42 first cousins; an abundance of otherloving family members, and many many dear friends. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, September 27 th at 2:00 p. m. at Owosso First Church of theNazarene with Mark Greene officiating.
