Robert P. Mooney, longtime resident of Niagara Falls, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Friday, February 23, 2024. He was 85. He was born in Carbondale, Pennsylvania on July 8, 1938, a son of Paul J. and Violet (Schwartzrauber) Mooney. He moved with his family to Niagara Falls as a child and then attended local schools, graduating from LaSalle Senior High School in 1956. He began his career at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in 1960 and worked until retiring as a millwright in 2000 after 40 years of service. In his younger years Bob enjoyed playing baseball, softball, bowling and golf and he enjoyed his time with his family, travelling and he loved his dogs. Mr. Mooney is survived by three children: Daniel (Kelly) Mooney, Deborah Celeste and Robert (Valerie) Mooney, three grandchildren: David (Annemarie) Celeste and Alex and Emily Mooney and two great-grandchildren: Vincent and Shaylyn Celeste. He is also survived by three siblings: Paul (Cat) Mooney of San Diego, Thomas (late Susan) Mooney of San Diego, Betty (Richard) Salvatore of Lewiston and his beloved dog Shadow. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his wife Marcia A. (Lenda) Mooney and his brother William Mooney. Friends may call at the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue on Wednesday, February 28 from 3 to 7 PM. Graveside services will be held on Thursday at 1 P.M. in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Lewiston. Born in Niagara Falls, NY on June 7, 1955 he was the son of the late Francis and Florence Margaret (Stevenson) Ross. Steve enjoyed going bowling, playing golf, and playing music with his friends. He played the bass guitar with his friends in their band. He also looked forward to the Friday Breakfast/Lunch gatherings with his friends and band mates. He was also an avid Buffalo Bills fan.He is survived by his wife, Diane M. (Peplowski) Ross; daughter: Nicole (Nick Santoro) Ross; granddaughter, Alexa; sisters, Linda Ross, and Sara Ferrerio; brother in-law, Frank (Carrie) Peplowski; sister in-law, Linda (Mike Orzetti) Peplowski; dear friends, Rick (Grace)Feldhausen. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. James M. Heinrich, lifetime resident of Niagara Falls, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 19, 2024 at his home. He was 62. He was born in Niagara Falls on August 4, 1961, the son of Harold A. and the late Suzanne (Kastner) Heinrich. He attended local schools and then worked for several area businesses including McLeod’s Deli in Niagara Falls. Jim had a very generous heart and spirit, and to him family was everything. He was kind to everyone that he ever met. He loved being in the Niagara River Gorge, enjoyed fishing, any outdoor activity and music. He is survived his father Harold (step-mother Charlene) Heinrich and four siblings: Allan Heinrich, Karen Heinrich (Dwayne), Thomas Heinrich and Timothy Heinrich. He is also survived by three nephews: Mark Perri, Dale Boos (Jenna) and Timothy Heinrich, his niece Jessica Boos (John) and great-nieces Giovanna and Lucianna Perri. He was predeceased by his mother Suzanne (Kastner) Heinrich. A celebration of Jim’s life will be held on a date to be announced. Phyllis Catherine (Hildebrandt) Miller, 74, of Niagara Falls, New York passed from this life on February 19, 2024 peacefully in her sleep. Phyllis was born in Niagara Falls, New York, on September 12 th , 1949 to the late Catherine and Philip Hildebrandt. Phyllis graduated from Madonna High School, Niagara County Community College, SUNY at Albany, and Christ the King Seminary. She also attended many classes in various scientific fields at Niagara University, Canisius University, and the University at Buffalo. She was a lifelong learner. Phyllis began her teaching career at St. Stanislaus Kostka Grade School in 1970. When the school closed in 1989, she began a career as Director of Religious Education for their parish, leaving that role in 1995 to resume teaching science and religion at St. John de LaSalle Grade school. In 2002, she moved to St. Dominic Savio Middle School to teach science and remained until her retirement in 2012. Not content with retirement, she held a part-time position as Junior High School Science Teacher at Niagara Catholic before really retiring in 2013. Phyllis was also part of the janitorial staff at Buffalo Fuel Corporation from 2002 until 2023. Phyllis enjoyed the children she taught, calling them “her kids.” She also loved to read books, visit Walt Disney World with her granddaughter, complete jigsaw puzzles… which she often had framed and gave as gifts, and spending time with her family. Phyllis is survived by her husband Donald Howard Miller, her daughter Catherine Shubsda of Niagara Falls, her granddaughter Allyssa Ann Wadsworth of Houston, Texas, her “sisters in life:” Faye Willard of Niagara Falls, New York, Kathy Rotella of Youngstown, New York, Betty Shields of Georgia, and Teresa Shubsda of Lewiston, New York. She is also survived by cousins whom she regarded as her brothers and sisters: Angela Foster of Rochester, New York, Elise Rizzo of South Carolina, Edward Barauskas of Niagara Falls, New York, David Barauskas of Buffalo, New York, Claudia Melidona of Wyoming, and Christopher Barauskas of Niagara Falls, New York. Other survivors include her brother-in-law Michael Miller of Connecticut and her sister-in-law Diane Miller of Florida, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A wake will be held at Lane Funeral Home, Inc., 8622 Buffalo Avenue on Friday, February 23 rd from 5 until 9pm. A funeral service lead by Reverend Laura Norris-Buisch will be held Saturday, February 24 th at Lane Funeral Home beginning at 10am followed by the burial. Flowers are gratefully declined. Katherine T. Langley passed away February 17, 2024 at Schoellkopf Health Care Facility. Born and raised in Niagara Falls, NY, the only child of John T. Langley and Katherine T." Kitty" (Wilgosz)Langley. Kathy graduated from Sacred Heart School and was a member of the last class at St. Mary's High School in 1959.After high school, Kathy entered the convent, where she continued her studies. She received a BS in education from Medaille College and a Master's degree in education from the University of Buffalo.As Sister John Vianney with the Sisters of St. Joseph, she taught elementary grades in Buffalo parochial schools for 15 years.After leaving the convent, Kathy became a reading specialist in Cheektowaga middle, junior & senior high schools. When her father passed away, she transferred to the Niagara Falls School district. She was a Merit Program teacher at Harry F. Abate Elementary School. Kathy retired in 1998 and became the sole caregiver for her mother who passed away in 2011 at the age of 97.Friends are invited to Katherine's Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday February 22nd 10:00AM at St. Raphaels RC Church, 3840 Macklem Ave, Niagara Falls, NY 14305, with Rev. Sandra Jean (Rolling) Smith, lifetime area resident, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Monday, February 19, 2024. She was 76. She was born in Tonawanda, New York on April 12, 1947. She attended local schools and then married James E. Smith on September 4, 1965 in Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church and they remained happily married until his passing on March 10, 2010. Sandra worked as a secretary in the library at Niagara Wheatfield High School for 40 years until her retirement. She was a longtime member, Deacon and Secretary at Colonial Village Presbyterian Church. She was very devoted and involved with her church, was an avid Buffalo Sabres fan and she enjoyed baking. Mrs. Smith is survived by her son Kenneth (Shannon) Smith, all her friends at the church and her beloved dogs Pepper and Mia.
