Nancy Spaine Obituary

Nancy Atkinson Spaine, 94, died peacefully on May 6, 2023. Nancy was born on September 9, 1928 in Mt. Vernon, IL to Glenn and Hester Hilliard Atkinson. She moved to North Carolina in 1948 to marry the love of her life, Harry Spaine. Nancy was a stay at home Mom until her children were grown. Then she took classes at CPCC in order to start a new career as Assistant Archivist for the United Methodist Church, Western NC Conference, a position she held for 33 years, retiring at age 84. Nancy loved genealogy and was a charter member of the Mecklenburg Genealogical Society. She was an excellent seamstress and loved her cats, Bucky and Lucy. Nancy was preceded in death by her husband and parents. She is survived by her children, Marsha Walpole, husband Matt and David Spaine, partner Cyndi Zande; granddaughter, Emily Walpole; brother, Tom Atkinson, wife Melanie; cousins, Nancy Mears and Elizabeth Boyles (Larry) and beloved nieces and nephews. A visitation for Nancy will be held Friday, May 12, 2023 from 11 AM until the time of her funeral at 12 PM in the chapel of Forest Lawn West Funeral & Cremation Service, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, NC.
