BARR, RUTH M. nee QUALEY, 80, of Tuckerton, N.J., passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2024. She was born December 11, 1943, in Brooklyn, N.Y., graduating from Bogota High School in 1961, moving to South Jersey in 1974. Ruth worked at Golden Nugget, Atlantic City, for 25 years. She retired to Spring Hill, Florida in 2009. Beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Ruthie was always ready for a good time filled with laughter. She enjoyed spending time with her family and loved days at the beach. Ruthie had a soft spot for her doggies; most recently “Twinkle Toes” Ollie and “Flat Foot” Lucky. Over the last 15 years in Florida, she made many friends and shared many memories at the Lone Star Ranch. Some of her favorite times were spent with her “Lunch Ladies”, especially Friday pizza. She will be missed by her daughter and son-in-law, Patty and Louis Manzoni, grandchildren, Danielle and husband George “Tank” Simmons, Nicholas and wife Alissa Manzoni, and Anthony Manzoni and fiance Cheyenne Willey, brother and sister-in-law, David and Diane Qualey, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She is predeceased by her sister Patty Heim (Qualey) and parents William and Marjorie Qualey. Because of her great love of animals, the family asks that donations to the Popcorn Park Zoo in Forked River, NJ be made in lieu of flowers. BOWEN, RICHARD H. – 1943 – 2024 On Friday, January 12th, Richard "Richie" Bowen passed away peacefully at the age of 80 years old. He was the beloved husband of Suzanne (nee Muller) for 29 years. Loving father of Lisa Swankoski (Steven) and Donna Gordon (David), Egg Harbor Twp., NJ, and Gregory Bowen (Susanne) of Doylestown, PA. Richard was born and raised in Pleasantville, New Jersey, the son of Francis "Bud" and Helen Bowen. He attended Pleasantville High School, graduating in 1962. He played many sports in school, including baseball, football and track. He was an avid golfer and once had the opportunity to go Pro when he worked at the Linwood Country Club. He embarked on a career at Lenox China in Pomona, New Jersey, from which he retired as Manufacturing Manager after 43 years, where he was very well respected for his knowledge and people skills. He was a member of the Lenox Bowling League and eventually scored a perfect 300 game. He enjoyed his many years of retirement traveling, boating and, most of all, touring the countryside on his motorcycle. Richard’s devotion to family was a true blessing. Left to cherish so many wonderful memories made with their "Pop-Pop" and "Poppy" are Tyler Wolfe, Cole Gordon, Jenna, Katelyn and Kyle Pashley, Drew, Jay, Matthew and Caroline Bowen. "Pop-Pop" no doubt received a long-awaited reunion with Grandson, Zachary Wolfe. Richard was predeceased by his parents, as well as his sister, Joanne Patch Boggan, and brother, William Bowen. He is survived by his sister, Barbara Weber of Egg Harbor Township, NJ, sister-in-laws, Kathryn Comperatore and Geraldine Muller, as well as many nieces and nephews. Visitation on Friday, January 19th from 1-3 pm, Maxwell Funeral Home, 160 Mathistown Rd., Little Egg Harbor, NJ. Patrick J Hetherington, age 83 of Tuckerton, NJ passed away peacefully on December 16, 2023 with his sister at his side. Patrick was born in New York City on December 4, 1940 to the late Jeremiah and Margaret Hetherington both from County Cork, Ireland. He proudly served his country in the US Army, 82nd Air Borne Division. He was a talented HVAC mechanic for over 30 years, retiring in 2003. He enjoyed painting, playing his guitar and the piano. He always had a story to tell about his adventures growing up in NYC and would often revisit especially for the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade. Patrick was proud of his Irish heritage and was known for his "Irish Good-Bye". Patrick is survived by his sister Sheila Heaney; his daughters Sheila Smith and Laura Heyburn, grandchildren, and his many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by brothers Jeremiah, Cornelius, and Charles; sister Mary Roulette, and his faithful companion Cork. Relatives and friends are invited to Patrick’s visitation on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 from 9AM-10:15AM at the Mount Laurel Home for Funerals, 212 Ark Road, Mount Laurel, NJ 08054. She was a member of St. Theresa Roman Catholic Church, Little Egg Harbor, N. J. Laura was a strong and very happy person and her inner strength was beyond compare. She was predeceased by her husband Gaspare Joseph "Joe" Tumbiolo. George Porter, 80, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, December 15, 2023. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts on April 4, 1943. He was pre-deceased by his loving wife of 31 years, Susan Porter, and parents Alvin and Dorothy. George lived life entirely on his own terms, making friends and enjoying his time exactly as he wanted to. George honorably served his country in the U. S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was qualified as a Flight Engineer on the P2V Neptune and the P-3 Orion. He served in the maritime patrol community (the "VP" Navy), which he loved. George also served aboard the USS Constellation, attached to a Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron in Vietnam. He was promoted up through First Class Petty Officer and was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Two Good Conduct Medals, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and the National Defense Medal, in addition to various campaign, service, and unit ribbons. After his military service, George worked as a heavy equipment operator for Local 825 and took great pride in working with his hands both professionally and in his personal hobbies. Some of his favorite pastimes included working on engines, home improvement projects, landscaping with his skid steer, bird watching, and spending time with family. He especially loved to watch a football game on TV, settled into his favorite chair with a fire in the fireplace. George had a deep love of animals and cared for many cherished pets over the years who brought him great joy. He loved socializing with friends and family, especially sharing laughs and stories over a drink at Motts Creek Inn, Lower Bank Tavern, and the Red Men. Family was always most important to George. He leaves behind seven beloved children: daughter Jacqueline Kaari of Hudson, OH, son Steven Porter and wife Karen of Toms River, NJ, daughter Mari Considine and husband Michael of Woolwich, NJ, daughter Amanda Mulligan and husband James of Little Egg Harbor, NJ, daughter Alison Porter of Little Egg Harbor, NJ, son Donald Mathis and wife Jennifer of Montclair, NJ, daughter Kimberly Andersson and husband Mikael of Wiscasset, ME; and ten grandchildren: Jennifer, Jessica, Rachel, Sophia, Max, Mazzy, Daniel, Katie, David, and Linnea. They will miss his warm smile and unwavering care and support. George will be remembered for his kind heart, playful good humor, and loving nature that made each person feel special. He touched many lives over his 80 years. May his memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved him. Cremation will be private. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday December 20, 2023 from 4-6pm at Maxwell Funeral Home 160 Mathistown Road Little Egg Harbor, NJ 08087. Linda Leifried, 83, of Tuckerton, NJ passed away on December 13, 2023. Born in Oklahoma City, OK, Linda spent time living in Midwest City, OK before moving to Tuckerton, NJ in 1959. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Tuckerton where she sung in the choir and the Tuckerton First Aid Ladies Auxiliary. Linda was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who participated in the PTA and was everyone’s favorite Aunt Linda. She was a volunteer at the Tuckerton Food Bank and enjoyed being a homemaker and hostess and she loved to go shopping. Linda is predeceased by her son Samuel Leifried III, parents Richard and Gladys Price, father and mother in-law Sam and Stella Leifried, and brothers Ronald "Snooks" Price and Dick Price. She is survived by her husband of 66 years Samuel Leifried Jr. , daughter Tammy L. Patterson of Cape May, NJ, daughter Terri L. Maresca and husband Ronald of Barnegat, NJ, sister Gerry Hall, grandchildren Noah N. Leifried-Patterson and wife Lynsie, Ronald W. Maresca Jr. and wife Christie, Samuel A. Maresca and wife Alicia, Matthew J. Leifried-Patterson and wife Joni, and Tara L. Schoeneberg and husband Malcom, great-grandchildren Ronnie, Andrea, Peyton, Matthew, Langston, Ayden, Vivian, John, Zella and Magnus, and niece Danielle. Brendan Thomas McCarthy, 43 of Tuckerton, NJ passed away December 7, 2023 at home. Brendan was survived by his wife Kierstin McCarthy and their two children Dylan and Kyleigh, his Uncle Rich and Aunt Pam of Closter, and brother Sean McCarthy. Brendan was a beloved husband, loving father, devoted nephew and a good man who would do anything for his friends & family. Born in Suffern, NY, Brendan was taken home to Closter. NJ where he lived until he moved to Tuckerton in 2020. A lifelong Mets fan and forced Cowboys fan, Brendan continued to play baseball/softball up until a couple years ago and was happiest when playing sports with his kids. As a very diverse skilled worker, Brendan had not only his massage therapy license but a painting business as well, while working for Seaview Beverage as a full time employee. Michael A. Roellke, 79 of Little Egg Harbor, NJ passed away on Sunday December 10, 2023. Michael was born in Newark, NJ and spent time living in East Orange, NJ before settling in Little Egg Harbor in 1973. Michael proudly served our nation in the United State Navy from 1966 to 1968 and he worked as a Clerk in the Tuckerton Post Office. He was a Communicant at St. Theresa’s R. C Church in Little Egg Harbor, NJ, a member of the American Legion Post 493 and a member of the MICA Club. Michael was the past president of the National Association of Letter Carriers branch 4029 and was the American Postal Workers Union shop steward for Tuckerton during his employment. Michael helped teach CCD classes at St. Theresa’s Church for 10 years, spent 6 years on the Little Egg Harbor elementary school board and was the past vice president of the Ocean County school board. Michael was predeceased by his parents Edward and Margaret Roellke and his brother Edward A. Roellke. He is survived by his loving wife Donna of 54 years, daughter Lesley Doherty and husband Mike of Shamong, NJ, grandsons Nicholas Ryan and Michael Finn and sister Carol Ann DeLorenzi. Visitation will be held on Monday December 18th, 2023 from 9:30-10:30am at Maxwell Funeral Home 160 Mathistown Rd.
