Nancy O'Brien DeMille, 75, passed away on Wednesday, September 6, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Jean O'Brien. Born on September 24, 1947 in Norfolk, Va. , Nancy was raised in Aragona Village in Virginia Beach, Va. She graduated from Princess Anne High School in 1965 and married her high school sweetheart, Bobby DeMille. Nancy was always the life of the party. She loved entertaining and traveling and challenged herself in learning foreign languages. Her worldly adventures included travel to multiple continents - though her favorite experiences were the simple ones spent on the beach with her family. She had a gift for creativity and fashion that helped her found Nancy O. , a business venture where she designed sunglasses, outerwear and more. Nancy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She is survived by her husband and soulmate of 54 years, Bobby DeMille; her daughters Lisa DeMille (Ashburn, VA) Michelle Dea (Don), grandson Braden (San Diego, CA), her son Mike Kernels (Catherine), granddaughter Olivia (Greensboro, NC); her brothers Buster O'Brien (Karen) and Kevin O'Brien (Nancy); her brother-in-law Frank DeMille (Mary) and niece and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel (1264 N. Great Neck Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23454) at 1 p. m. on Friday, September 15, 2023 followed by a burial service at Princess Anne Memorial Park (1110 North Great Neck Rd, Virginia Beach, VA 23454). John Rolfe Westman, Jr. , 79, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, passed away on November 29, 2023, surrounded by Luv. He was born on June 2, 1944 to John Rolfe Westman, Sr. , and Dorothy Lockner Westman, both of whom await him in heaven. Rolfe, as many close friends and family knew him, was named for Pocahontas' husband, early Virginia settler, John Rolfe. He had deep roots in the Norfolk Community, particularly the Ward's Corner neighborhood, and was a graduate of Norfolk Catholic High School, class of 1962. John was a quiet and peaceful man who loved smooth jazz music and spending time outdoors, as he was often found sitting on a park bench at Mt. Trashmore or the beachfront. He had a passion for traveling and had visited Europe, Asia, and enjoyed several cruises to the Caribbean islands. John was an avid storyteller and gave great advice to those who sought it. He had worked as a salesman for most of his career and was proud to have served as a veteran of the United States Coast Guard during the Vietnam era. He enlisted on August 4, 1965, which coincided with the birthday of the Coast Guard. In addition to his military service, John had a successful career in the flooring industry. During his retirement years, he assisted his wife's family business at Manee's Alterations, enjoying the simplicity of daily tasks and greeting customers. John was a member of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity at Old Dominion University, and actively participated in the community as an officer of the Fleet Reserve Branch 166 and as a fourth knight in the Knights of Columbus. He was also dedicated to his church, Holy Spirit Catholic Church, and served on the Haiti Committee for many years. John is survived by his devoted wife, Gonggao, his loving children: daughter Kathryn Franks (Barton) of Atlanta, GA, and son John Rolfe Westman III (Donna) of Boston, MA, and his generous sister Marguerite W. Dickerson. He will also be missed by his cherished grandson, Kyle Bennett Franks. He enjoyed spending time with Gao's extended family, including her daughters Cristina and Lily. He was also particularly close to the family of Russell Ward, his friend for nearly 60 years. The family will receive friends on Monday December 4th from 6pm-8pm at HD Oliver Funeral Apts. located at 2002 Laskin Rd in Virginia Beach. A memorial mass will be held on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at 1 PM at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Burial will take place immediately after at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk, Va. John believed in the magic of Christmas for children. Lillian A. Taylor, known as Anita or Nita by those close to her, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on November 20, 2023, at the age of 80. She was born the third child of seven on November 12, 1943, to the late Lula Mae and Joe Bloxson, Sr. , in Pensacola, Florida. Anita graduated from Washington Sr. High School in 1960 in Pensacola, Florida. She went on to cosmetology school and then worked as a cosmetologist for a few years before going to Pensacola Junior College to learn filing and shorthand. She met Charles Taylor, a Navy sailor, in Pensacola, Florida, and later married him on December 23, 1965. Through the Navy, they lived all over, including Nevada and California. They moved to Rhode Island and later to Bermuda, where she worked as a cashier at the Navy Exchange and later at the bowling alley. In the last duty station transfer, Anita followed her husband to Virginia in 1976 where they settled in Virginia Beach. She became a longtime member of Rock Church International and rededicated her life to the Lord in 1982. Anita became very involved at the church and shared her passion of The Word through teaching children in Sunday School through dramatic and interactive lessons. She further embraced her love of children by serving as a cook at KinderCare Learning Center for over 2 decades. Anita had a joyous spirit and loved to laugh, play practical jokes and have fun. She was an avid bowler and loved a good game of Scrabble or Yahtzee. She also enjoyed baking and earned the beloved nickname "Aunt Cookie" for the delicious homemade treats she sent to family during the holidays. Anyone who has had a conversation with Anita knows that she dearly loved her family. She adored her husband and cherished her daughters and granddaughter. She will be dearly missed by all who loved her. She is survived by her husband of almost 58 years, Charles M. Taylor; daughters, Charlene R. Taylor (Abel), and Erica J. Taylor; granddaughter, Hawi Abel Taylor; sisters, Gloria Jackson, Maggie Zealey, Valerie Rankins (Charles); brother, Alonzo Bloxson (Gyra); aunt, Carolyn Bailey (Hank); sister-in-law, Marianna Emory, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A visitation for Anita will be held Wednesday, December 6, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home, 601 N Witchduck Rd, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23462. Josefa Petita Puente Tabora, 86, of Virginia Beach, Virginia passed away on November 29, 2023 after a long battle with Lung Cancer. Josefa was born on September 19, 1937 to Serafina and Alfonso Puente in Manila, Philippines. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce from the Far Eastern University in Manila, Philippines in 1959. She would eventually land a job at the Navy Federal Credit Union. In 1960, she met George Tabora and they wed in 1962 going on to have four children: George Tabora, James Tabora, Maria Vandermeid, and Grace Mais. When Josefa had her first child, George, she decided to dedicate her life to being a wonderful mother. Josefa excelled at supporting her children through difficult times. She made it a mission to improve the lives of her family and others. Josefa was passionate about her church. She was an active member of the Legion of Mary and the Holy Spirit Church Bereavement Committee. When she was not filling her home with warmth and kindness, she could be found in Holy Spirit Church or St. Gregory Catholic Church saying the Rosary and practicing her faith. We will miss our mother, Josefa greatly. Josefa was predeceased by Alfonso Puente, Serafina Puente, Rodolfo Puente, Carmelita Puente and Alfonso Junior Puente. She is survived by her loving husband George Tabora; her children and spouses George Tabora Jr. (Wife Donna), Maria VanDerMeid (Husband Peter), James Tabora (Wife Laurie), Grace Mais (Husband Jeremy); her siblings Josefina De La Cruz, Florinda Cagulangan, Lourdes Gloria, Antonio Puente, Erasto Puente and Napolean Puente; her grand children and spouses Justin Tabora (Wife Caresse), Hayley Lilly (Husband Austin), Grace Vandermeid (Fiance Zack), Connor Mais, Elise Mais, Joshua Tabora (Partner Cassie), Brittany Tabora, Faith Tabora and great grand child, Hazel Mae Lilly. The family requests that all flowers and notes are sent to Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, 3445 Princess Anne Rd, Virginia Beach, VA 23456.
