Mrs Nancy Capron A lifelong summer resident of Prudence Island and winter resident of Englewood, Florida for the late 25 years passed away of old age She graduated from Dumont High School in New Jersey in 1951 and from Sargent College in 1956 with a degree in Physical Education She was the wife of the late George H Capron and daughter of the late Hamilton S Rice and Helen (Link) Rice She is survived by her son William J Capron and his girlfriend Caitlin; George "Hub" Capron and his wife Kim; and L "Tim" Capron She was the sister of Elizabeth Swindells, Joann Kaemmerlen and the late Patricia Beachen and Hamilton "Buzz" Rice She was the cousin of David Rice and leaves behind 10 nieces and nephews Nancy, aka "DeeDee", was very close with her nieces, nephews, and their children She was also very close with the Apps' who she treated like and considered family Nancy toured Germany in the early 1950's, going to and from Europe via steamship She was a world traveler who visited every continent except Antarctica In the 1970's she would pack up a station wagon and take her 3 sons to see special sites in North America, often sleeping in a tent at state or federal parks Once retired, she would take Elderhostel trips with the favorite cousin David Rice or by herself She was an avid swimmer (often wearing mask, snorkel, and fins to check out fish and other aquatic life) in Narragansett Bay and the Gulf of Mexico until her mid 80's, continuing to swim in the Englewood YMCA pool until almost 90 She loved to go beach combing to find shells, beach glass, and all sorts of other "treasures" She used old vases, jars, or bottles to make many sea glass and shell displays which are now treasured keepsakes While beach combing, she would pick up garbage along the shoreline, often finding a length of rope with a lobster pot buoy attached and filling it with bleach and detergent containers Other times an onion sack would be filled with all kinds of plastic trash Nancy was an excellent writer and good poet Her Christmas cards, as well as birthday and congratulatory cards, were always personal and heart warming which were saved and not discarded She had a wonderful last summer on Prudence Island often sitting in her rocking chair looking out at Narragansett Bay We certainly appreciated all the family members and friends who came to visit her A memorial will be held in the Union Church on Prudence Island, Saturday, October 14th, 11 AM followed by a celebration of her life at her beloved cottage on Narragansett Avenue Arrangements are with the George C Lima Funeral Home To to the family or in memory of Nancy Coughnet (Rice) Capron, please
