Myrtle Jean Thomas Baldwin, 92, of Waynesville passed away peacefully surrounded by family Thursday, October 5, 2023. Born December 10, 1930, to the late William Carol and Annie Edwards Thomas; She is also preceded in death by her beloved husband Fred Baldwin; many brothers and sisters; and a great grandson Daniel Elijah Rathbone. Myrtle will be remembered for her smile and great story telling. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, canning, going hunting and fishing. Myrtle was an avid reader of the Bible, who enjoyed talking to you about Jesus. Myrtle always spent her time being with family, friends, and her grandchildren; she never met a stranger. Left to cherish her memories are daughters Brenda Baldwin, and Glenda Harverson (David); brothers Paul Thomas (Judy), and William Carol Thomas Jr. ; a sister Annie Lee Brown; grandchildren Amber Elaine Harverson (Ricky), Cody Harverson (Stacy), Crista Nicole Rathbone (Kaleb), and Robert Matthew Vanzant; great grandchildren Hannah, Jackson, Sarah, Kaylee, Kenlea, and Adrianna. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:00pm, October 11, 2023, at Smoky Mountain Chapel with Kaleb Rathbone and David Harverson officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00-1:00pm. Matthew Vanzant, Cody Harverson, Ricky Worley, Kaleb Rathbone, Jerry Haverson, and Terry Justice will be serving as pallbearers. William Robert NelsonA loving and Caring ManWilliam Robert Nelson, 83, of Waynesville went to his eternal home on December 3, 2023. to see his Lord and to be with the love of his life his wife of 57 years Doris Lowe Nelson. Bill was born on March 10, 1940, to the late Dave and Loretta Nelson. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his two brothers Tommy and Odell and four sisters Ruby Nelson, Wilma Osborne, Lavada Herring and Grace Nelson. Bill loved his family they were his everything he was the greatest Papaw ever. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church where he loved teaching Sunday School. Bill was a volunteer fireman at Hazelwood Fire Department. And, a Mason at the Masonic Lodge in Waynesville. He enjoyed working on things and doing yardwork. One of his greatest pleasures was helping people. He was a man with a big heart and a bigger smile willing to do anything for anyone. We will remember him not only for his kindness and compassion, but also for his strength and commitment to his family and friends. He was the center and rock of his family, and there will forever be a void in their hearts that is shaped exactly like him. He is survived by his daughter Sandy Arrington and a son Bill Nelson Jr. His grandchildren Sarah Kuykendall and her husband Cole, Rylie Nelson and McKinnley Nelson. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Eugene Ellis Robinson and Pauline Pace Robinson. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husbands, Joseph McCracken and Edward King; children, Gregory Wayne McCracken, Joel Keith McCracken, and Jeffrey Todd McCracken; and sister, Lynda Haynes. Thelma was a floral designer and worked at Clyde Ray's Florist and Colonial Florist. She enjoyed traveling and crafting. She loved her family dearly and will be greatly missed. Major Wayne L. Warner, (USAF Retired) passed away peacefully on November 17, 2023, with his daughter by his side at Silver Bluff Rehabilitation Center in Canton, NC at the age of 89. Born on August 17, 1934, in Maytown, Pennsylvania, Wayne was the middle child of Edward L. Warner and Myrtle Hammaker Warner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Aline Sadler Warner (2001) and second wife, Dorleen Schafer Warner (2021), son Gary D. Warner (2004), son-in-law Franklin C. McKenzie (2021) and brother, Robert E. Warner (2006)Wayne is survived by his daughter: Theresa (Tess) McKenzie, 3 stepdaughters: Averi Avent (the late Marc), Regina Edwards (Kip) and Sasha Braxton, sister Beatrice Quayle, grandson: Jacob C. McKenzie and great-grandson: Evan J. McKenzie. 6 step-grandchildren: Elaina, Lillian, Leah, Jase, Keira and Colton and many nieces and nephews. He proudly served the United States Air Force for 20 years and was a decorated veteran. He enlisted in December 1953 and in January 1954 after a battery of tests, he entered the USAF aviation cadet program. In 1955, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant and received his navigation wings. In 1958, he went into pilot training and received his pilot wings in 1959. Notably, he was deployed to the Republic of Vietnam, 311th Troop Carrier Squadron, from 1964-1965. After he retired from the Air Force, his first employment was as plant manager of the Servtex Corporation in Sanford, NC. He attended night classes at Central Carolina Technical Institute, where he attained an Associate's Degree in Industrial Management. He resided in Southern Pines, NC for 50 years until the passing of Dorleen S. Warner, when he moved to his daughter's home in Cruso, NC. Wayne was a former elder and member of Christ Fellowship Church in Southern Pines, NC. He participated in the Walk to Emmaus, where he met Dorleen and they continued to volunteer their time. His Christian faith was of the utmost importance to him. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at 11am at Christ Fellowship Church in Southern Pines, NC and conducted by the Reverend Thyne. A private graveside service with military honors will follow at Culdee Presbyterian Church cemetery. Memorial donations in Wayne's name may be made to Christ Fellowship Church or St. Jude's Children Research Hospital. Anthony was a diehard Dale Earnhardt fan. He loved his family, NasCar and his Harley. He was a funny, kind, and loving person. He would help anyone who asked him to. She enjoyed spending time with her family, going to church, traveling, reading, and spending time in Tennessee. She was also preceeded in death by beloved husband Lewis Dan Reece, and parents Wilburn and Leila Nelson. Left to cherish Shirley's memories are her children Danny (Tracy) Reece, and Kim Franklin and friend David; brother Jerry (Elizabeth) Nelson; sister Gail McConnell; seven grandchildren: Logan, Lucas, Sarah, McKayla, Angie, Lee, and Savannah; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend Pam McKay. Our hearts were saddened to say goodbye on November 13, 2023, to our amazing momma, Patsy Britt Shank. She was a wonderful mother who was always there when we needed her and her sacrifices for her children had no limits, which spilled over into the lives of every child she encountered, not only her own children but her daycare babies and her beloved foster children whom she and Paul adored. She loved the Lord and was always planting seeds of faith with her family, especially all her children. She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Shank; mother, Norma Warren; stepfather, Bob Warren; father, Pat Britt; and stepmother Alic Britt. Charlie loved being outdoors and enjoyed fishing. And the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina. He enjoyed watching football, especially the Dallas Cowboys and NasCar. One of his hobbies was painting. He was a man with a big heart and a bigger smile. Charlie would do anything for anyone. We will remember Charlie not only for his kindness and compassion, but also for his strength and commitment to his family and friends.
