Myrna Rae Michaelis, 83, of McFarland, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, September 10, 2023, at St. Marys Manor. She was a life-long member of the McFarland area. Myrna was born on June 28, 1940, in McFarland, Kansas, the daughter of Harold and Mabel Marie (Czirr) TenEyck. She attended local grade school and graduated from Alma High School in 1958. Myrna married Wilfred Joe "Swede" Michaelis on her birthday, June 28, 1958, in Wamego. After sixty-two years together, He preceded her in death on December 28, 2020. Myrna was a homemaker and caregiver. She loved raising and caring for her family and on numerous occasions, would care for other friends and family members, especially at the end of their lives. Over the years she worked at various jobs including being a clerk at the Post Office, doing housekeeping at the Alma Manor, and working at the grocery store in McFarland. Myrna loved making ceramics. She would not only decorate but would pour and fire her pieces. She loved to crochet, knit, quilt and do various types of needle work. She also enjoyed many hours working jigsaw puzzles. Myrna was a braille transcriptionist and worked many years with the Lutheran Braille Workers transcribing religious material into braille. Myrna was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and helped with Vacation Bible School. Myrna is survived by her children, Johnny Michaelis (Matilda) of Maple Hill, Alan Michaelis (RaeLynn) of Belvue, Denise McDaniel (Terry) of Paxico, Brian Michaelis (Polly) of Alma and David Michaelis (Yvette) of Wichita; her twenty-three grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren; her siblings, Jupe TenEyck (Peggy), of Alma, Larry TenEyck (Shirley), of Wamego, and Carol Jones, and Vicki Browning, both of Manhattan. Myrna was also preceded in death by her parents and her brother-in-law, Kirk Jones. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 am, Friday, October 15, 2023, at Trinity Lutheran Church in McFarland. Reverend Terry DeGiovanni will be officiating. Burial will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. The family will greet friends prior to the service beginning at 10:00 am. They suggest memorial contributions to Trinity Lutheran Church or St. Marys Manor, and those may be sent in care of Campanella and Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego. "George Allen Payne September 5, 1961 - September 29, 2023 On Friday, September 29, 2023, surrounded by his family, Allen's long and hard-fought battle with terminal illness ended. Allen pursued his dreams to play basketball in Georgia where he met the love of his life, Karen and brought her back to Kansas. He followed in his father, George Payne's, footsteps and worked at Koss Construction Company for 36 years before retirement. Allen was an avid bowler, eight-time bowler of the year recipient, Kaw Valley USBC Hall of Fame inductee, and Kansas State Hall of Fame inductee. He was so well loved by all that he met. While he was a man of few words, his words always had such a purpose and made such an impact. Allen is survived by his wife Karen (Thompson) Payne; daughters, Nicole Tunnell (Jay) and Rachel Maxwell (Jordan); grandson, Kamden Maxwell; sister, Susan Payne Evans (Robert); and many nieces, nephew, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Bonnie Payne of McFarland, Kansas, and his son Joshua Payne. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p. m. Ralph Joseph Ponte, 71, of McFarland, Kansas, passed away on Friday (October 7, 2022) at his home. He was born in Topeka on July 4, 1951 to Nina Burch McKinley and Ralph McKinley. At a young age he was adopted and raised by Mary Burch and Patrick Ponte on a farm 4. 5 miles east of Hoyt, Kansas. He graduated from Hoyt High School and served in the United States Army. Ralph was employed with Santa Fe Railroad from 1973 to 1993, then started R. J. Ponte Construction specializing in building Custom Homes. He retired in 2018. Ralph was an exceptional craftsman and continued his love of woodworking as a hobby. Ralph was active with the McFarland PRIDE volunteer group, Relay for Life and with CASA in Topeka. He enjoyed attending race car events, hunting and fishing on the farmland, and fishing yearly in Canada with close friends. He cherished road trips for work and pleasure, Jeep rides, visiting new places, and attending concerts with the love of his life. He was always sure to make the most of every experience and return with stories to tell. He was a great storyteller and found joy in sharing with others. Ralph had a way of making every person in the room feel important. He genuinely loved people, leaving a lasting impression on those he met. He was a very proud father and grandfather who loved watching his grandchildren play sports and attending all their events. Time spent with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was the highlight of his life. Ralph was preceded in death by a twin brother at birth, his parents, a younger brother Thomas Ponte and two older sisters Edie Adams and Georgia Bonneson. He was united in marriage to Sandra Barngrover on August 18, 1972. They were later divorced. On February 14, 1991 Ralph married Bernita Mongold Tryon. She was killed in a tragic auto accident on September 9, 1998. On August 3, 2002 Ralph was united in marriage to Marilyn Meseke Gasperich at his home in Auburn, Kansas. She survives at their home in McFarland, Kansas. Ralph is also survived by his children Teresa Ponte (Al), Meriden, Amy Ponte, Topeka, August Wessel (Andrew), Minot, North Dakota, Dustin Gasperich (Jen), Topeka, Krista Hurla (Chad), Paxico, Rachel Sisson, (Jared), Berryton, Lindsay Falk (Josh), Alma, one brother Nick Nicolay (Lisa), Nebraska City, Nebraska, thirteen (13) grandchildren Ellen Doty, Devin Ponte, Brandon Gasperich (Marisa), Mackenzie Johanek (Tucker), Jordyn and Jayde Berroth, Easton Sisson, Peyton, Katelyn, Brady and Cole Hurla, Haidyn and Mason Falk, and two (2) great-grandchildren Oaklee and Bodhi Gasperich. Funeral services will be held on Friday morning (October 14, 2022) at 10:30 in the Alma United Methodist Church with Pastor Kyle Scheideman officiating. Burial with Military Honors will in the McFarland City Cemetery. Ralph will lie in state Thursday afternoon at 5:00 at the Campanella & Stewart Funeral Home in Alma. The family will meet with friends Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 at the funeral home in Alma.
