Josie Marie Church (Ponzica), 75, of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2023, after a tough battle with the long-term effects of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and multiple hip replacement surgeries over the years.
Josie was born on October 29, 1948, to Tony and Janie Ponzica in Houston, Texas. She attended Reagan High School.
In her younger years, she loved to dance and tease her hair into the traditional "bee-hive" hairstyle! She met and married her husband of 55 years, Joe Church. Their three loving children are: daughter Vicki Church-Cangelosi and sons Lee Church and Joseph Church. They, along with her beloved grandchildren, Tony Jr. and Valeri, will miss her deeply.
Josie was always a giving person throughout her life. She sacrificed so much so that others could have it better. It made her happy to see others happy and smiling. She was always there to listen and offer understanding and positive feedback, any time - day or night!
Although Josie was a stay-at-home mom, she devoted many years of her life as an in-home babysitter. It gave her much joy to take care of all her special babies!
Josie is preceded in death by her father, Tony Ponzica.
Josie is survived by her husband, Joe Church and their three children: daughter Vicki Cangelosi and husband Tony, sons Lee Church and Joseph Church, grandchildren Tony Cangelosi, Jr. and Valeri Cangelosi. She is also survived by her loving mother, Janie Ponzica, brother Lee Ponzica and wife Bernadine, numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are: Sam J. Ruffino, Tony Cangelosi, Sr. , Tony Cangelosi, Jr. ,
Jeff Phillips, Eric Marmion, and Christopher Ponzica.
A visitation for Josie will be held Monday, December 11, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Pat H. Foley & Company, 1200 West 34th Street, Houston, TX 77018. A rosary will occur Monday, December 11, 2023 at 7:00 PM, 1200 West 34th Street, Houston, TX 77018. A funeral mass will occur Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at 10:30 AM at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 3600 Brinkman St, Houston, TX 77018. A committal service will occur Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Woodlawn Cemetery, 1101 Antoine Dr, Houston, TX 77055.Show more
