Passed away peacefully at Lanark Heights LTC, Kitchener on the morning of Friday, March 1, 2024 at the age of 86. Survived by his wife Mary, son Dan (Lisa), daughter Monica. He loved dearly his grandchildren Alexandra, Noelle, Saba, Thomas, Rebecca and great-grandchildren. Also survived by his sisters Yvonne, Sheila (Claude) and sister-in-law Lilah and many nieces and nephews. Gerry was a teacher with the Waterloo Catholic Separate School Board for 33 years. He loved politics, cricket, education and being in his garden with the birds. Above all, family was what he treasured most. From the day he arrived in Canada from India in 1968, he was proud to be Canadian and he dutifully sponsored his sister and sister-in-law in coming to his new country. He spent his last days in the care of some great people at Lanark LTC, who provided him with comprehensive care with his ever increasing complex needs. Visitation will be held at St. Mark’s RC Church, 55 Driftwood Drive, Kitchener on Friday, March 8, 2024 from 12 to 12: 45 p.m. The Funeral Service Outside of Mass will immediately follow in the sanctuary of the church at 1 p.m. Cremation to follow. Family and friends are invited to a reception in the parish hall following the service. A private family interment will be held at a future date at Memory Gardens, Breslau. Doris Rose Hilker (Barnes) passed away peacefully on March 1, 2024 at the age of 89. She leaves behind her soulmate and best friend Dennis Frederick Hilker and daughters Shellie (Doug Armstrong), Denise (Bob Deutschmann) and Laurie (Michael Messier) as well as seven grandchildren Becky (Drew), Dave, Jena (Andrew), Mitch (Hanh), Chad (Sarah), Toby (Suzie) and Ty and 6 great grandchildren Sienna, Ella, Jessica, Finn, Isla and Kai. A lifelong resident of Kitchener-Waterloo, Doris worked as an elementary school teacher and also as a special needs teacher at New Dawn School. Later she volunteered for Save the Children and Maycourt. She had a full life surrounded by many cherished friends and family. With them she enjoyed hiking, tennis, skiing, biking, playing bridge, travelling, gardening, music and especially summers spent on Tabasakwa Island and sailing on Georgian Bay. She was a kind and giving person, the consummate "mom" and a constant presence in our lives, always there to share our joys and sorrows. Doris and Dennis first met at the age of 13 and shared a rare and enviable bond. They have celebrated 68 years of marriage. Special thanks for the love and support provided at Waterloo Hospice. Ida Bory passed away peacefully at Trinity Village Care Centre, Kitchener, ON, on February 27th. She was 89 years old. Ida is survived by one sister Gerda, of Germany and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband Theodore (Ted) Bory, and sisters, Grete, Kate, Lotte, and Rosa. Ida enjoyed a relatively quiet and private life and was happiest when at home with a needle or crochet hook, creating beautiful tatting and needlepoint, or Christmas angels which she generously gifted to all she knew. Ida’s family wishes to express their gratitude to the wonderful staff at Trinity Care Centre for their care and kindness. Cremation has taken place. At Ida’s request, there will be no funeral or memorial service. Please honour Ida's memory by extending an act of kindness to brighten someone's day.

Eva Theis Willing

Eva passed away peacefully on February 25, 2024 at Innisfree House in Kitchener in her 97 year. Eldest daughter of Anton and Klara Theis. Survived by her son Tony (Kathy), grandson Andrew, great-grandson Issiah, and her brother John Theis. Predeceased by her husband Peter Willing Sr (2005), her son Peter (2017), and her granddaughter Stephanie (2022). Also predeceased by her brother Matthew (2019) and her sisters Mary (2016) and Helen (2020). Eva was a great conversationalist and a great storyteller of which she had many. She enjoyed pastimes which included watching movies, both old and new, keeping up to date by watching the news and a keen interest in American politics. She also loved doing daily crossword puzzles and reading. Eva was known to read upwards of 40 books per month thanks in part to the Waterloo public library. Eva was also a dog lover and was often seen in the summer months sitting on her front porch engaged in conversations with neighbours especially those that were out walking their dogs. A special thank-you goes out to all Eva’s neighbours (you know who you are) who offered their support in her final years and to Innisfree House for their kind and compassionate care that Eva required in her last month. Upon Eva’s request, cremation has taken place and a private family ceremony will take place at Parkview Cemetery at a later date. Condolences and donations to Innisfree House or the Humane Society would be appreciated and can be arranged through Erb & Good Family Funeral Home.

Dr. Gwilym Bevan, FRCCO (Chm): FTCL: B.Ed. on 23 February 2024 in his 98 year. Survived by his granddaughter Helen Bevan-Jones (and her family, husband Darren and sons, Tristan, Macauley), daughter-in-law Jean Bevan, in Wales, UK. Predeceased by his late wives, Lois, Margaret, and Beryl; his sons, John, Gerald, and Michael; his parents, Ethel and Emlyn Bevan; and his sister, Gwenyth Bevan. Gwilym was born and educated in Wales before serving with the British 4 Armoured Brigade in N.W. Europe during and following World War II. In 1956, he emigrated to Canada and was Director of Music at Trinity United Church in Kitchener for the next eleven years. He then went on to organ and school positions in Brockville and London, ON, and Lennoxville, QC. This was followed by 16 years in PEI, mainly as Director of Music at The Confederation Centre of the Arts in Charlottetown, Organist at The Kirk of St. James in Charlottetown, and teaching at The University of Prince Edward Island. Dr. Bevan returned to his native Britain numerous times for holidays and to give organ recitals in numerous cathedrals and churches, and one special recital for the centenary of his childhood school. Countless choristers of all ages will remember singing under Gwilym’s direction, together with annual choir camps and choir tours in Britain, Canada, the USA, and Bermuda. He retired in 1991, later returning to live in Kitchener. There will be no visitation or religious service. It is with great sadness we announce Cathy (née Arbuthnot) Schaffer Sabourin, age 64, of Kitchener, passed away on Friday, February 23, 2024, after a very difficult battle with pancreatic cancer. Predeceased by her parents, first husband and sister Debbie. Loving wife and best friend of Jamie Sabourin, extraordinary mother to Michael (Melinda), Kelly Schaffer, Derek (Jennifer) and Jenine Sabourin. Caring Nana to Alex, Evan, Avery and Jordan. Margo is also survived by her mother Anne Hayes and brother Rocky Hayes. Throughout Margo’s life, she exemplified the virtues of hard work, dedication, and reliability in every aspect of her being. She was known for her unwavering loyalty as a friend and had a remarkable ability to make those around her laugh. As per Margo’s wishes cremation has taken place.
