John Connolly McCann April 19, 1975-December 4, 2023 (age 48) John Connolly McCann, 48, of Dunellen, was born in Plainfield, New Jersey. He attended St. John's School in Dunellen and Immaculata High School in Somerville, from where he graduated with the class of 1993. He went on to further his education at Seton Hall University then New Jersey Institute of Technology, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in January of 2000. John worked for various companies throughout his career in New York and New Jersey as well as independently. Positions included Senior Project Engineer-Plumbing/ Fire Protection & Mechanical Commissioning Division Project Manager in charge of design of plumbing and fire protection systems. He had a variety of domestic and international clients. At the time of death, John was employed by Wayne Allen Engineering PLLC in New York City, overseeing an industry-leading design team. John not only had a brilliant mind but he was good-natured and had an incredible sense of humor. Growing up he played baseball and soccer, excelling in soccer on various teams until a knee injury ended his competitive pursuits. He played the piano and served his church as an altar server and his community as a scout, attaining the level of Life Scout. He especially loved the outdoors and spent his free time hunting and fishing with his lifelong friend, Christian Murphy. John valued the close friendships of brothers Rudy and Laszio, sharing biking adventures together, as well as trips to Wildwood with co-workers and friends Stephanie and Patty. John enjoyed traveling and keeping tight-knit bonds with family in Scotland. John was predeceased by his father, John Thomas "Jack" McCann and his niece, Jackelyn Elise McCann. He is survived by his mother, Kathleen (Connolly) McCann and sisters Moya Flanagan (Tom), Katie Olsommer (Mark), and Maureen Clark (Tom) as well as six nephews and nieces, Tommy Flanagan, Casey, Joe, & Michael Olsommer, Angela & Ryan Clark, and two great nieces, Savanna Burkeen and Kyla McCann. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be sent to St. Jude Children's Hospital. Friends may visit the family on Tuesday, December 12 from 4:00-8:00pm at Sheenan Funeral Home in Dunellen. Friends and family may gather at 9:00am prior to the 10:00am funeral Mass at St. John the Evangelist Church in Dunellen on Wednesday, December 13, 2023. Burial will take place at Holy Redeemer Cemetery in South Plainfield.
