Michelle Lynn Winegar died on Thursday, October 5, 2023. Michelle was preceded in death by her grandparents, Francis Klein and Wendell and Dolores Grady. She is survived by her children, Abigail Mandel, Parker Winegar and Beck Winegar of Dunlap; parents, Jim and Jane Grady of Dunlap; brother, Max and Carly Grady of Dunlap; grandmother, Phyllis Klein of Dunlap; niece and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. Connie Jane Smith was born on March 5, 1944, in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Fred and Mary Jane (Hough) Petersen. She grew up going to country school. After graduating from high school in Missouri Valley, Connie went on to further her education earning a business degree. On April 6, 1963, she was united in marriage to Roger Smith at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Missouri Valley, Iowa. The couple were blessed with three daughters, Barbara, Diane, and Kristine. Connie worked for a few years for Union Pacific in Omaha, Nebraska and for Dr. Tamisiea in Missouri Valley, but she was able to spend most of her years as a dedicated mother, farm wife and grandmother. Connie was not only devoted to her family, but also her church. She was a member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church where she served as a lector, taught religious education and was a trustee. Connie was also a proud member of the Tuesday Club and the P. E. O. She loved going on evening rides with Roger and spending time at the lake condo in Okoboji, Iowa. Connie loved listening to Neil Diamond, she and Roger went to several of his concerts. Anytime "Sweet Caroline" came on, she would sing and dance. Connie was a huge Duke fan, and she was so happy to fulfill a dream of going to a Duke basketball game and seeing Coach Mike Krzyzewski. Most of all, Connie loved time with her family and especially her daughters and families, and later her two grandchildren. She was always their biggest fan in all their activities. Connie died on December 4, 2023, at Azria Health Longview in Missouri Valley, Iowa at the age of 79 years, eight months and 29 days. Connie was preceded in death by her parents and brothers-in-law, Jim Evans and Victor Smith. She is survived by her husband, Roger Smith of Missouri Valley, Iowa; daughters, Barbara Smith and Bill Adams of Omaha, Nebraska, Diane and her husband Brent Hansen of Missouri Valley, Iowa and Kristine and her husband Chris Nelson of Council Bluffs, Iowa; grandchildren, Derek Hansen of Missouri Valley and Madisyn Hansen of Missouri Valley; two sisters, Linda and her husband Max Farris of Edgewood, Texas and Kathie Evans of Corpus Christi, Texas; and many other relatives and friends. Duane Edwin Mann was born on February 8, 1931, in the old town of Moorhead, IA to his parents, Charles Dean Mann and Anna Leora (Perrin) Mann. Duane attended grade school in Pisgah, IA and later a country school several miles east of town. He graduated from Pisgah High School in 1949, while living on the family’s 80-acre farm 4-5 miles northwest of Pisgah. After high school, Duane worked at the grocery store in town for a short stint and then was hired as a hired-hand on a farm near Lawton, IA (east of Sioux City). In September 1950, Duane joined the Navy and attended basic training at the Naval Training Center in Great Lakes Illinois. After bootcamp, Duane was ordered to report to the Naval Air Station in Alameda, CA where he was assigned duties as a supply clerk, handling requests for airplane parts. After nearly two years, he received orders for an overseas assignment in Japan. Duane was stationed at the Haneda International Airport near Tokyo, Japan, which was also the U. S. 1503 Air Transport Wing, from August 1953 to June 1954. After his discharge from the Navy in July 1954, Duane returned to the 80-acre farm northwest of Pisgah, IA. He soon found a job with a highway construction company and worked on roads in Iowa and Nebraska. During a job in Ottumwa, IA, Duane met Beverly June Hosette. During their courtship, Duane enrolled in college at Iowa State College studying agriculture education to become a Vocational Agriculture teacher. Duane and Beverly were married on November 27, 1955, in Ottumwa and soon returned to Ames, IA as Duane was still pursuing his college degree and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in February 1959. From this union was born four children: Lori Lyn, Brian Duane, Jon Dean and Julie Ann. Duane and Beverly divorced in September 1972. On March 3, 1973, in Mondamin, IA, Duane married Janice Ann Johnson (of Turin, IA) while living on a small acreage south of Minburn, IA. They later moved to Woodbine, IA in June 1975. From this union was born two children: Aaron Michael and Janel Renee. Duane worked in the YMCA for five years and for the Ag Chemical Industry (FMC). In 1973 he decided to go into business for himself, forming a company named R&D Orchard Supply, later becoming Mann Chemical and Orchard Supply. This business kept Duane busy writing spray guides for orchard growers. Soon after moving to Woodbine, IA, Duane and Janice started up two other businesses. They formed the first commercial lawn service and established a fruit & vegetable roadside market, along with a wholesale melon business for grocery stores. While living in Woodbine, Duane became a charter member of the Woodbine Betterment Committee and served on the Electrical Board of Trustees for over 20 years. Duane and Janice funded the infrastructure for development of the Brookview Housing site. Along with this, they also developed the Riverside Business sites along Hwy 30. Duane and Janice played an integral role in establishing the annual Applefest festival in Woodbine. Duane passed away peacefully in his home in Woodbine, Iowa on November 15, 2023, at the age of 92 years, 9 months and 7 days. Duane provided a great and secure home for his family throughout his life. He instilled in his children the importance of education and a strong set of values and showed them (through example) how to be honest, kind, responsible, forgiving and most importantly, how to love. Duane was also a devout Christian and believed strongly in the power of faith and prayer. Duane enjoyed working on countless woodworking projects in his wood shop. He was an avid reader, particularly of history of the frontier, mountain men and his family ancestry. Duane had an uncanny memory and was able to recall many events of his early childhood in great detail. His strong memory has served his family well in preserving family history and passing down family stories…. . Duane was a fantastic storyteller! Duane loved and enjoyed spending time with his family most of all. Duane was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Janice; first wife, Beverly; sisters, Nola Chapman, Norma Hardt and Viola Plath; oldest brother, Loren Mann and younger brothers, Jerry Mann and Ronald Mann; brothers-in-law, Leo Chapman, Lee Hardt and Bernard Plath; sister-in-law, Doris Mann; nephews, Larry Plath and Jeff Weldon; niece, Rhonda Boyd. Terry Lynn Oloff was born on May 30, 1961, to parents Lyle and Betty (Meier) Oloff in Missouri Valley, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed in the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Persia. Terry graduated from Woodbine High School in 1979. Soon after graduating, he began working at the Logan Mill driving a feed delivery truck. Cogdill Farm Supply purchased the mill and Terry continued to work for them. In 1999, Terry went to work for the Harrison County Road Department. On July 7, 1990, Terry married Ronda Maguire at the Logan Christian Church. Terry attended the Logan Christian Church. He enjoyed spending time with family, fishing, woodworking and fixing whatever needed to be fixed. Terry loved his grandchildren, helping them with projects, making things for them and attending their events. Terry especially loved spending summers with Ronda and the grandkids at the family cabin in Minnesota, road trips to new places and watching Iowa Hawkeye Football. Terry died suddenly at his home on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at the age of 62 years, five months and 19 days. Terry was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Larry Maguire; sisters-in-law, Cheryl Oloff and Diana Maguire; and nephew, Joshua Oloff. Kimberly Sue Kolhof was born on March 6, 1958, to Eugene and Dolores (Rogers) Lauver. She grew up in Council Bluffs. Kim attended Thomas Jefferson High School and graduated in 1976. On August 22, 1976, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Kirk Kolhof, at the Broadway Christian Church. They were blessed with two children, Kirk Jr. and Kandice. In 1985, the family moved to Old Town Missouri Valley. Kim worked at Alcon and then for many years at the Missouri Valley Schools. In 1996, they purchased the Tamarack Bowling Alley. After Kirk’s death in 2005, Kim ran the Tamarack until it closed. She then worked at Pizza Ranch and Mosaic. In 2021, Kim sold her home in Missouri Valley and moved back to Council Bluffs. One of Kim’s great passions was bowling. She embraced the sport with enthusiasm and skill. Through coaching softball for many years, Kim instilled in young players not only the techniques of the game but also important life lessons. Her commitment to mentoring extended beyond the ball field; she took pride in coaching Special Olympics athletes. Kim's patience and kindness reflected her belief in everyone's ability to succeed, regardless of their challenges. In addition to coaching, she found joy in playing slow-pitch softball herself. She also enjoyed playing slot machines and bingo. Kim loved the many trips to the cabin on Lake Poinsett in South Dakota. Her most profound and cherished role was being "Grandma Kim". Her adoration for her grandsons knew no bounds. She doted on them, sharing in every adventure, milestone and triumph. Kim died on Monday, November 13, 2023, at the Josie Harper Hospice House in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 65 years, eight months and seven days. Kim was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kirk Kolhof Sr. ; brother, Roger Lauver; and brother-in-law, Kraig Kolhof. Leslie Allan Bennett was born on February 18, 1955, in Norfolk, Nebraska to Willis and Jean (Helmberger) Bennett. He grew up in Battle Creek, Nebraska where he attended school and graduated in 1973. On November 22, 1974, Les was united in marriage to Cheryl Erickson and they were blessed with five children, Keysha, Bobbi, Angie, Jessica and Tyler. Les found his passion working various jobs in the hog industry. His last position was as the Midwest Production Manager for Smithfield/Murphy Farms, where he worked from 1996 until his retirement in 2013. Les had a zest for life, exuding joy and laughter wherever he went. One of his greatest passions was gambling, particularly horse and dog races. Whether it was the thrill of wagering or the exhilaration of witnessing fierce competition, Les found excitement at these events. He also loved his Nebraska Cornhuskers and squirrel hunting. Aside from sports, Les had an unparalleled talent for cracking jokes. He had a gift for finding humor in everyday situations, reminding us all to laugh in the face of adversity. Most of all, Les loved his family. Les died on Sunday, November 5, 2023, at the age of 68 years, eight months and 18 days. Les was preceded in death by his father, Willis Bennett; brother-in-law, Rodney Fink; nephew, Andrew Fink; and grandson, Abe Kuhnert-Hill. Ronald (Ronnie) Dean Mann, the seventh of eight children was born to Dean and Anna (Perrin) Mann at home outside of Pisgah on May 20, 1942. He attended school in Pisgah until he was a senior, when the family moved to Woodbine, where he graduated in 1961. Ronnie started carpentering with his dad and continued this his whole life, working with his best friend, Frank Plain, and for a period of time with Dave and Duane Burmeister. He was married to Maureen Miller in the RLDS church in Woodbine on November 2, 1963, and to this union were born two children, Lisa and Kevin. The couple divorced in 1981. Ronnie, Kevin and Lisa increased their family when Ronnie married Dianne (Perkins-Smith) and son Doug on July 16, 1983. Ronnie was a member of the RLDS Church and later the Followers of Christ Church. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting with his dog, Chief, and coyote hunting with friends. Later, Ronnie started singing with his guitar and was a member of the "Noteables". He also sang with friends at his church, the Golden Age Center and at Rose Vista’s Tuesday sing-alongs. Ronnie built a lot of cabins at the Reunion campgrounds and he enjoyed spending his retirement following the grandchildren’s many activities. Ronnie died on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at Azria Health Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine, Iowa at the age of 81 years, four months and 27 days. Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Nola Chapman, Norma Hardt and Viola Plath; oldest brother, Loren Mann and younger brother, Jerry Mann; brothers-in-law, Leo Chapman, Lee Hardt and Bernard Plath; sisters-in-law, Janice Mann and Doris Mann; and nephew, Larry Plath. CLICK HERE TO WATCH SHERRY'S FUNERAL SERVICE Sharon "Sherry" Kay (Harper) Walker was born September 4, 1940, to Glen and Beulah "Billie" (Wilson) Harper in Iowa Falls, Iowa. The family moved to Ottumwa and Dow City, Iowa before settling in Dunlap, Iowa. Sherry attended school in Dow City and Dunlap and worked at her parent’s creamery business. On March 18, 1957, Sherry married Dwayne "Doak" Walker. The couple was blessed with three children. Sherry’s father passed away and her mother then married Frank Humlicek. Frank was a pharmacist and operated the Dunlap Pharmacy. Sherry worked there for many years until Frank retired and closed the pharmacy. Sherry then worked for Apothecary in Woodbine, with Gerri and Murray Hubbard and Jack Hinze, as a sales rep to other pharmacies. She also worked for the Veterans Administration in Omaha for 24 years. She was smart and a very hard worker. She held several positions in the payroll department as she climbed the corporate ladder. The last several years of her employment she was a secretary in the research department where she continued to process payroll for several doctors per their request. Sherry retired from the VA in 2005 due to her diagnosis of dementia. Sherry had enjoyed camping and reading books. Doak lovingly cared for Sherry for many years in their home. Following a stay in the hospital it was necessary for Sherry to then transfer to the nursing home. Sherry died on Friday, September 1, 2023, at Ariza Health Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine at the age of 82 years, 11 months and 27 days. Sherry was preceded in death by her parents; step-father; brother, Neal Harper, step-sister, Connie Brink; and great-granddaughter, Ray Lynn Johnson. She was survived by her husband of 66 years, Doak Walker of Woodbine; three children, Gail Walker and his wife Mari of Woodbine, Sheril and her husband Kevin Kobs of Avoca, Iowa and Tim Walker and his wife Janet of George, Iowa; six grandchildren, Nicholas, Jereme, Suzette, Jennifer, Justin and Mikayla; 11 great grandchildren, Elijah, Xavier, Cashton, Weston, Devina, Laramie, Gabriel, Jameson, Nayeli, Olivia and Rowdy; sister-in-law, Mary Jo Camperoe; and many other relatives and friends. CLICK HERE TO WATCH RICK'S FUNERAL SERVICE Ricky Moore was born on September 30, 1960, to Wilbur and Darlene (Nuzum) Moore in Onawa, Iowa. Rick graduated from East Monona High School in1979. In 1982, Rick began his lifelong passion for farming with his brother Brad. Together they farmed and fed cattle. On June 14, 2014, Rick married Julie Matz and the couple continued to live on the farm outside of Moorhead. During harvest the days were long, but Rick would take a break to enjoy meals that Julie would bring out to the field. The work was never done, he would spend countless hours in the Morton building tinkering around after a long day’s work. He enjoyed it when the grandkids would pay him a visit riding with him in the tractor or combine. Rick never left the house alone, he always had good company from his two loyal companions, Rascal and Wolfie. Whether it was a ride into town or riding in the combine, they were always by his side. Rick was a member of the Moorhead Christian Church and was baptized in April of 1974. While in high school Rick was the vice president of the local FFA chapter. He was active with the Monona County Fair, the Monona County Cattlemen's and was a trustee for the Jordan Township. In his younger years Rick enjoyed coon hunting. Rick and Julie enjoyed traveling with Hawaii and Jamacia being two favorite destinations for Rick. He also enjoyed going to concerts and to the Iowa State Fair. Rick loved his sweets. There was never a day that you couldn’t find a stash of Little Debbies and Dr. Pepper in his truck or office, and the grandkids knew where to go to find those snacks. Rick died at his home, surrounded by loved ones, on Sunday, September 3, 2023, at the age of 62 years. Rick was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Julie of Moorhead, Iowa; step-sons, Jacob Gillmor and his wife Andrea of West Des Moines, Iowa and Lucas Gillmor and his wife Molly of Denison, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Malana, Paisley, Tehan, Jackson, Perry, Davick and James Theodore; sister, Becky and her husband Dave Cohrs of Woodbine, Iowa; brother, Brad Moore and his wife Michelle of Soldier, Iowa; his loyal companions, Rascal and Wolfie; and many other relatives and friends.
