Michael (Mick) Volk,94, of Kent, formally of Canton, Ohio, Springfield, Illinois and Rootstown, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, June 16, 2022 at UH Portage Medical Center. He was born January 30, 1928 in Hawk Run, Pennsylvania. His parents were Joseph and Agnes (Havron) Volk. He was the youngest of two boys in a family of nine children. Mick enlisted in the Merchant Marines in 1945 when he was 17. As world war II came to an end , he was chosen to enter the Air Force, where he served until November 1968. He retired from the Air Force as a Senior Master Sergeant, First Sergeant. During that time he and his family lived in Maine, Pennsylvania, Louisiana, Texas, Germany, and North Dakota. Upon retirement he , his wife and two children made their home in Canton Ohio. Mick worked at several jobs before going to work for the city of Canton as a Relocation Specialist and Acquisition Supervisor. In 1977 he accepted a job with the Federal Highway Administration in Springfield, Illinois as a Realty Specialist. He and his family moved to Sherman, Illinois. In 1992 he retired from the FHA and started the Land Acquisition Consulting Firm, Inc. He worked in this capacity until he finally retired in 2007. In October 2009 he and his wife moved to Rootstown, Ohio to be near his daughter, Deborah, who lives in Ravenna. Mick attended Saint Peter of the Fields Church in Rootstown. He was also a member of the Eagles and Elks Clubs. He enjoyed fishing, golf, and poker, especially Texas Hold'em. Survivors include the love of his life, his wife Irene (Cebulko,) daughter Deborah (Roger) Black, son Michael (Mona) Volk of Huntsville, Alabama, three grandchildren Lindsay, Hadley, and Satchel and two great grandchildren , Layla and Hunter. He loved his visits with these little ones and they enjoyed showing off their skills for GG Pa and GG Ma. He and his beloved wife, Irene would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in December of this year. Visitation will be from 10 AM until time of Funeral Mass at 11 AM Thursday, June 23, 2022 at Saint Peter of the Fields Church, 3847 Old Forge Rd. in Rootstown, Ohio. Burial with full military honors will follow in Saint Peter of the Fields Cemetery. A luncheon will be available after services at the church.
