Kathryn Beers

Age - 98

November 3, 2023

Our Mother, Kathryn Gertrude Beers of Worthington, Minnesota passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 31st, 2023. Kathryn was born March 23rd, 1925, on her parents' farm in Cottonwood County. Kathryn's parents were Frank and Lorinda (Greenfield) Becker. Kathryn was the oldest of 8 siblings, brothers Paul, Eugene, and Lawrence Becker and sisters Laura (Becker) Meyers, Darlene (Becker) Meyer, and Elizabeth (Becker) Reese. Elizabeth (Betty) is Kathryn's only surviving sibling. Along with her siblings Kathryn helped with farm chores. One famous surviving farm story was Big Red the Nasty Rooster who would attack Kathryn and sister Laura as they collected the eggs laid by Big Red's hens resulting in the sisters walking to school with abundant scratches on their legs and arms. She graduated from Heron Lake High School in 1942 and married the love of her life, Kenneth Beers, a WWII veteran, on June 16th, 1945. Kathryn and Kenneth raised 5 children; Marilyn (Beers) Saltzman of Sterling, Va, Eunice (Beers) Bonnstetter of Coweta, Oklahoma, Dennis Beers of Sun City, Arizona, Richard Beers of Belmond, Iowa, and Darwin Beers of Rapid City, South Dakota. Kathryn was also proud of her 9 grandchildren, her 13 great grandchildren, and her 3 (so far) great great grandchildren. Both Kathryn and Kenneth worked outside the home while still managing to raise us to be hard-working, responsible adults. Kenneth worked a variety of jobs (dump truck, railroad employee, . . . ) while Mom worked in an egg packing plant, Slayton Produce, and 14 years at the Campbell Soup Company. Their final work careers were as the proud and independent owners and operators of their own Dry-Cleaning store in downtown Worthington. Kathryn is survived by one sister, Betty Reese. She was preceded in death by her husband, son-in-law, Joe Bonnstetter and six siblings. Kathryn's last several years were spent at the South Shores Nursing Home and our family would like to extend our gratitude to the staff for the kind, conscientious care provided for our mother. While we are very sad, we are glad that we got to say what turned out to be our final goodbyes when we visited her in August. Our Mother's funeral service will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Worthington, MN on Saturday, November 4th at 10:30 am. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Following the ceremony, she will be interred at St. Mary's Cemetery alongside our dear father, Kenneth who passed away on February 1st, 1999.Show more
